Posts Tagged ‘sleeptime’
So, now I have been awake for 22 hours (but sadly only worked about 15 hours). Still I gotta get some sleep now.
My game will be about Music and Sounds and Epileptic Colors (not yet implemented), and a guy who wants to escape minimalism (or boredom)
YES, it will be a platformer. YES, I’m far behind schedule (well, if I would participate in the compo instead of the jam). YES, tommorow I will also have other things to do. And YES, many things went wrong. Thank you for asking.
(If somebody would know, how to speed up music with OpenAL/Slick2D without having to restart it, that would be awesome)
I think it’s almost time for bed. I am 5 hours from the time I’ve started and I’ve completed 2 levels and started on a third. I have a good idea where I want to go with my game to finish it. I think its definitely doable by the end of compo, even without spending full time on it.
I think I’ll take my tablet and go lay down and try to create some pixel art while I try to go to sleep.
I’ve had a few freinds play the Alpha test (here, comments welcome.) And! No bugs reported! Comments have been all positive too! My one fear is judges will think I just skinned the keynote’s code, but I guess that is one of the risks that comes with my strategy. Today is all about polish. My next task is to make a sort of intro cut scene that tells the story of how your seed landed.
I wore my Fitbit to bed last night. Here’s is it analysis:
I expected to sleep longer, but I didn’t feel like I was dragging out of bed. I’m worried I’ll need to take a nap later. We’ll see.
Standard bacon, eggs, and tomatoes breakfast.
Now, to figure out how to best improve the game:
- Scoring mechanism
- Different types of seeds
- Change the way your seed bullets work
- Improve graphics
- Title Screen
- Sound Effects
- Pop-up tips
Use imgur.com (free) to host you food photos and screen-shots. It reduces the load on the Ludum Dare site and it is super easy to use. Just drag and drop to the “Upload” section or if you register and activate you email address, simply email photos from your smart phone directly. Then uses the “From URL” tab on the Insert Media screen. I’ve also found that if you remove the width and height attribute from html the “Insert Media” screen creates the pictures re-size themselves perfectly.
So for this my first Ludum Dare compo, 16 hour and a half hours or so left and very little in the way of progress. Yeah I definitely won’t be finished without some miracle code. And a substantial jolt of energy.
I wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was, that’s for sure. Not giving up yet and hopefully will have something to show for my time spent. I was able at the very least, to come up with a game idea, work out tons of design notes for a promising framework which I will definitely improve upon before the next compo and have it released and ready to go.
But there is still time for me to at get something done, so wish me luck.
G’Night all see you in 4 hours hopefully.
I think I’ve been neglecting my screenshot duties, so here you go:
This pretty much sums up the extent of my game at the end of day 1. There are some enemies, you shoot at you. You can shoot at them and collect their broken hull.
I had really hoped to be a lot further along, but that’s always the way it goes. Tomorrow I’ll get the whole enemies-as-weapons thing in there, player damage, enemy patterns, etc etc. Right now it’s time to do some serious sleeping.
So this is ‘Tower’ since I didn’t bother to come up with a better name. (I did all my naming duty with Fiona’s Purple Reign.)
The object, of course, is to defend your tower from the onslaught of baddies. Unfortunately, there is only one type of monster, but each wave has it’s own speed and interval. Use the arrows to move the guy up and down the tower, or left and right across the top. A/D change the angle and W/S changes the power of your arrows.
I’ll probably write a post-mortum later, but you can download Tower.
