385, Music, BG or AG and Fighter Pilots!

Posted by

Hi LD’ers yay why am I so hyped at this rate I will be tired before the event begins!

Just a quick line to say that already 385 people have played Energy Island Conquest (the enhanced beta of my LD mini 28 entry) on Kongregate.

I was just thinking of what Music I should line up for my Ludum Dare Weekend?

I recall a scientific article that said classical music is supposed to be good for your brain.  I know I’m a BG (before Google) nerd, my introduction to my first computer was the ZX81 and they did not have a internet search bar, or browser or internet!

So are you a BG (before Google) or an AG (after Google)?

LD Tip: Play Ludum Dare like a fighter pilot!

Fighter pilots train themselves so they instantly forget any mistakes they make, as even a split second worrying about something that went wrong could take you down in flames.

So for Ludum Dare expect failures, mistakes, errors, dead ends but prepare to forget them fast and fix/drop/work around them faster.

Here’s some motivation for ya. It is all about the fact that you can’t expect your first attempts to turn out as great as you dream. Keep at it, don’t give up, make a dozen games and eventually you will be amazing at what you love. I’m still learning this lesson: I remember my first couple games – how they turned out was OK even though I was sure they would be incredible. It was (and still is) a humbling experience. The key is to not get discouraged and don’t aim for perfection, especially at the beginning.

Evolution!

You Know What To Do

Evolution - You Know What To Do

Isn’t it time for “evolution” to win?

If it wins, we finally get to see what kinds of games people make with the theme.

If it wins, it’ll never again be in the voting lists.

Go evolution, go!

How I made a game in 3.5 hours

It’s quite some read, but it might be of interest for you, especially when you want to participate a LD48 for the first time. I wrote some lines about how and in what order I created a tiny math game for a mobile device.

The Deadline

Sunday, June 26th, 2011 8:19 am

This weekend’s miniLD will be officially over at Midnight tonight.  That said, there would be no problem if you post an entry a few hours late.  We will close the submission form on Monday around lunchtime.

Remember: you do NOT have to finish your game – we warmly welcome all submissions including failed projects.  Post whatever you have – just for fun – bugs and all!  Ludum Dare is great for learning new things and the short 48 hours format doesn’t leave time for polish.  A simple prototype, demo or even just a title screen is still an accomplishment.  =)  We don’t mind a few rough edges.

Good luck finishing your games today!  Enjoy the process and don’t stress about the final product.  Whatever you end up with, even if it is a broken piece of junk is worthy of submission.  We promise to be kind with our comments!

AP Exams are a Must

It’s unfortunate that I didn’t get to compete this time around. I was really looking forward to LD20, considering it’s a milestone number for the event. Oh well.

I had AP exams to study for, a couple projects to finish and some plans with friends that prevented me from competing. I’m sad I didn’t get to exploit the newfound power of my Ubuntu installation. :(

Best of luck to those who competed, and may the best game win!

No Code yet, but a song

Got up and read the theme, over breakfast this song popped up in my head originally it had more of a ballad character but for sake of simplicity it  kind of went down the electronic vocoder synth road, enjoy!

Ah and usually I dont sing, so this kind of the first song I recorded, well it’ Ludumdare, anything is possible.

It’s not enough…

I actually do have a bunch of ideas, I just don’t like any of them enough yet!

Here is some of my brainstorming, in case anyone would like some.

Plus a bunch of TV programs. Also, apparently just about every music album ever made.

Yes, all my ideas do come from Google Images and Wikipedia, why do you ask :’(

What your work environment should look like

All you tidy, organized developers with your clean desks and perfect work environments!  Now THIS is what a true hardcore game developer’s setup should look like.  Take in the small details and pay homage to a true master at his craft.   (This is not me, but I love the image – I mean, check out the beverages).  Epic!  =D

What a game developer really looks like!

MiniLD #22 – Code Runner (MLD#15)

Posted by (twitter: @AurelDev)
Friday, November 26th, 2010 7:00 am

PreScriptum: I am NOTIFYING the site administrator – “WordPress 3.0.1 is available!”

As you can see, I’ve decided to enter MiniLD #22 – revisiting an old idea. What is that old idea? I’ve chosen (you Pikachu!) my previous AND unsuccessful entry, to MiniLD #15 – Old game CLONE. It’s the Code Runner.

Something actually surprised me – my old notes with ideas and concept were easy to find thanks to my superior organization skills (yah, sure). It makes the whole thing easier to do, and I know what did I plan to do with these pictures. I present an excerpt of these notes to you: (after the advertisement break)

Why hello there! … wait…

So, I decided to take a chance in LD#19. I did one of the previous ones (LD#a-number-to-me-currently-unknown – theme: remake), but kinda failed. I wanted to make a Lode Runner remake, kinda newish tilish and stylish, but for some reason … I got bored by making a remake of it :D . Anyway – I hope this time the theme will be something very interesting.

It should be a good side project from my every day (and night) project… Because making an mmo is hard :D (MOAR INFO AT MAH DEV_BLOG)

Yah… What can I write here…

Also – I might be doing some exrepiments here, so ingore them.

A little inspiration
