    Epilogue

    Eplilogue–The Book of Lives

We made a game called Living Tales, where you write the book of evoloution. It’s a sandbox-like game where you add objects by writing their names; and you see them appear and move around and interact on one page while the story of them is written on the other page.

The Ludum Dare version: Living Tales on Ludum Dare

The Kongregate version: Living Tales on Kongregate

    Splash for Living Tales

    What went right:

I’m proud of the work i did and i feel like i worked hard and did my best

    We had fun! :)

I enjoyed collaborating with kkednekadnez. It was my first collaboration and it was pretty fun

I was able to upload to Kongregate
While i loathe Stencyl, using it DOES mean we could enter the Kongregate contest…and i got all my kongregate freinds to play it!

    What went wrong:

    Time zones
a 9-hour time difference can be a real pain in the ass when trying to collaborate with someone to make a game…

    Stencyl
OMG dont get me started on Stencyl…it wouldnt let us share the file, it made the game lag, it made weird bugs…

Ludum Dare doesn’t allow collaboration credit…
…which means i don’t get to rate any games :(

Not enough time to add all the features we wanted
We were going to have giant mushrooms, dominating slug predators, and a giant pacman that ate everything, and more interactions among the objects that existed

We’re planning to make a post-compo version with a few more features

    Toodles! :)

    Fake Sneak Peek!

This is a sneak peek at the game I’m making with kddekadenz! :) Actually its a FAKE sneak peek since he has the code and I don’t; I put the objects together in Game Maker like they would appear in the game.

All of this is made with Game Maker’s sprite editor (yes, that’s right)
since 10:30 this morning :D most of these are animated too. And theres more that I couldn’t fit in there, too

    Simulated Sneak Peek

kddekadenz is doing some pretty cool stuff with the game engine, too!

edit: lol fixed your name, sorry about that

I just finished porting My Ludum Dare #35 (Originality) entry, Eternal Life, to Flash and yesterday I uploaded it to Kongregate…where it already has 329 plays!

What would happen if we could really live forever? Take a look at the answer with Death as your tour guide in this game made for Ludum Dare #35 (Originality) in 48 hours and converted to Flash as an exercise in learning the language.

    Play it here!

Thanks to ThirdEyeWild for helping me with the Flash version! :)

My game’s coming along! I had to start pretty late, but I’m quite pleased with the idea.

EDIT: Maybe I’ll leave the player to discover the most gruesome moment in the game for themselves, instead of using it as a promo pic.

    UPDATE: It’s almost finished!

    Here’s another screenshot:

It’s done!! You can now blast away at monsters with an infinite number of randomly generated guns to your heart’s content. (The guns can do some pretty interesting things, if I say so myself).

    Can you beat my highscore?

It’s on! I’ve decided to make a protoype of a game idea I had, so please be detailed in your feedback!

It’s a game about guns. There’ll be tons of attributes and combinations, and lots of monsters to shoot them at.  It’ll have fun sci-fi laser effects too; although I decided to leave out the Lightening attack type.Basically you have fun trying to find the optimal (or the weirdest!) gun. The monsters will have the same guns you can have, too!! Although i MAY give them limitless ammo.

It’s going to be called Guns Rule.

Will put up a screenshot when I have something to show; I’m just about to dive into coding.

    Cheers! :)

UPDATE: It’s working! I still have to hook up being the HUD and improve the monsters and add bosses (and polish), but I’ve got the engine in place!

    UPDATE 2:

    It’s looking cooler now…

UPDATE: Finally figured out how to get it to let me put up screenshots!! Yay! (It’ll look better when it’s done.)

OK I just didn’t want my post to be yet another post labelled “results”.

    Coolness    100%
    #89    Humor    3.26
    #90    Theme    3.74
    #213    Innovation    3.39
    #226    Fun    3.19
    #302    Overall    3.19
    #417    Mood    2.70
    #571    Audio    2.12
    #577    Graphics 2.61

I’m pretty happy about these…except for the fact that I used sfxr for sound effects and did them all in an hour; but I got higher for audio than for graphics! I did go for functionality over looks, but it’s a little embarrasing when you’re an artist.

I think this was the most fun I’ve ever had in any game jam! I will definitely be participating in the next one.
