Well, since we are a team, it’ll have to be Jam, but games are more fun to make together, aren’t they? Without further ado, we present you our team, the Alleas:

Septi (programmer) and Wednesday (artist)

This is the second Ludum Dare for me (Septi, and no, I didn’t create anything groundbreaking last time), and the first for Wednesday. For this Ludum Dare, I moved in to Wednesday and set up a temporary workstation. I have some weird network connection problems, so this time I’ll have to work on Windows, not Linux :\ Here’s my stuff:

And here’s Wednesday’s lovely desk:

This, by the way, is Raven, our talisman, he symbolizes:

As for what we will be using, here are tools for programming:

C++ with MinGW+MSYS toolchain

Vim

Qt – great crossplatform library

SCons as a build system

Git for version control, although I doubt we’ll need branches

A little template project to start coding with, it’s just a “Hello World” for SCons + Qt combination

And here are tools for content:

Photoshop

Sai

Macromedia Flash

Sfxr for sounds, if we get to that point

Probably we’re going to use some of my code from the last compo (we’re in Jam, right?), probably not, this all depends on what we’ll be making. With all that being said, we wish everyone best of luck both in Compo and in Jam. Let’s do it

I’ve made a fair bit of progress on day 2, but I have a lot of work to squeeze into the next few hours to get something playable together.

I’ve done a cheap and cheerful intro sequence though, and here’s a screen from it:

I’m current racking my brains trying to come up with a way I can alter my game to make it more of a challenge, while at the same time trying to finish off bits that are required just for it to work properly.

Anyway, I should get back to work!

I’m in? I’m a lost child from NZ, now in NY trying to be a big star! I make games and stuff, check out my blog or endure my twitter feed. First LD, although I did the Global Game Jam this year which has made me an expert on absolutely everything. I am working on Saturday so will have to do my best to scare off customers who interrupt my coding.

I shall be using Unity Indie/iOS, Photoshop CS4, Pixen, cfxr, iPad Garageband, Audacity, and SHEER WILLPOWER.

I may harvest scripts from other projects of mine, but nothing major. If anyone in NYC has a supply of amphetamines to share they may be used as well. Kidding. For now.

Well, let me add myself to the giant list of new folks for the upcoming LD #20. I dropped by the IRC room last night and got some nice advice on useful tools and whatnot… thanks everyone. A snag though! I realized this morning that I’m actually moving that weekend! This might not be as big a deal as it initially seems, though, as I’m only moving to the other side of the same building I’m already in, and I’m already pretty well packed up; it just means some valuable time is going to be eaten up by lugging boxes. I still plan to compete!

I plan on using a SDL-based sprite framework that I’ve been working on lately… right now it’s in an unusable state though (being moved from using SDL blitting to sprites as textures in OpenGL). Assuming it’s fixed in time for the competition, I’ll post the code somewhere for y’all so that I’m within the rules and whatnot.

Uuuhh… yup! Nice to meet you all! Let’s have us some fun!

EDIT: Aaand… that SDL->OpenGL conversion I mentioned? I think I’ gonna abort it and instead move to SFML. I’ve been reading about it some today and it really seems like the way to go. There’re benefits to working with SDL and learning how things like blitting work, of course, but if the API for SFML is as much better than SDL as people are making it seem, it would really speed things up for me… in addition to saving me from having to link in extra libraries for some of the stuff I’m doing. I’m pretty sure this is one of the useful things someone told me about last night on IRC, but I never managed to get around to looking at it at the time because I was too busy playing with bfxr! I should have listened to y’all better! Belated thanks!

I had not planned on doing a full deal, and may end up in the jam compo anyway but I have an idea, its easy and timeless and being more relaxed about it, and having a way out if everything goes to crap sure does make the entire weekend much more carefree

here is a picture of my desk, its the same desk, same computer as last time, though I have an addition on top, that is a Apple //c computer. I grew up with these and have owned them for just about as long as I have had all my PC’s in total (though this particular one’s serial number dates it to 1985), so yea I am going to make a game for it, something I have not done in a very loooong time

nothing special software wise, I will be using basic (though compiled to A2 / 6502 machine instructions for speed) no ASM (I do know a little just not enough to barf out a game in 48 hours), and I cant ever seen to get the couple of C cross compilers working right

The machine is a 1mhz AII machine with 128kb of ram and a 140kb per side 5.25 inch disk drive, and its serial video and audio ports are jacked into my PC for development, though a windows based emulator will be doing the bulk of the lifting, its there to ensure things work right on both the real metal and the emulator (which will be part of the final product so everyone can play, retro computer or not)

PS: though I show windows 7 loaded on the screen, my TV tuner card decided it was going to be a PITA and not switch over to composite input 2, so I’m in linux Mint which is not bad but just in case anyone follows this blog they wont wonder

Will be my first attempt at a competition like this but I’ve been failing at game development for years so I think I’m pretty well prepared.

I’ll probably be hacking it out in Python. Likely to use pygame or pyglet depending on what I decide to make, but I might also be tempted to use libtcod because I’ve been experimenting with it a lot lately. All depends on what works best with the theme I suppose ^^. I wish I were cool enough to do something all flash or ajaxy or whatever, but alas I know nothing of AS or JavaScript.

Anyways, I’m pretty excited and I might have the whole weekend wide open so we’ll see what happens. With any luck I will finish and release a game for the first time because of this ^^.

…HERE I COME. So original.

Following my success in MLD#22 (yah), I shall be going for LD#19. The time is (as for many) just right – end of the year, no stuff to do…

Also, let’s keep up this random tradition of saying what tools shall who-ever use, shall I?

CODE – AS3.0 – Flash CS5

GRAPHICS – Vector – Flash CS5

GRAPHICS – Bitmap (maybe) – Photoshop CS5

SOUND – … digital? – sfxr / as3sfxr / MICROPHONE (yeah, I am a beatboxe… oh whatever)

MUSIC – ambient – Logic Studio 9 (if I will have enough time for that)

IDEAS – neural – mHEADmod3.599 (meannetSim)

NOTES – verbal – Text Edit 9.5321.12348g (MOST RECENT)

COMMUNICATIONS – cut – EVERYWHERE

COMPUTER – good – iMac

okay, i will stop

Timelapse is coming, but I wonder if I will continue using that lame Gawker… It crashed trice the last time, so I lost like an hour or more of material… I HAVE iShowU but I can not find any way to make it record time lapsing… Ideas?

It’s my first LD proper. I’ve been around in Mini-LDs, mostly lurking and learning before jumping into the fray.

Still unsure whether to go for the jam or the real deal, I just hope I’ll have an entertaining weekend polishing some gamemaking skills.

vruz at his surreal corner of the matrix

Pictured on the right, what my work environment will look like this weekend.
The same picture as a panoramic image, the picture is old but the place looks exactly the same as it did last year.

Here’s what things look like in the street today, around in Punta del Este, Uruguay. There’s a big revamping going on the main street and I can hear a pneumatic drill from here, banging on the street; hope they’re gone for the weekend. That would certainly make for a better quality creative time

I’m still unsure which tools I will use. I have a C++/OGRE/OpenGL working environment, a FreePascal/SDL/OpenGL one, but I might just go for Flex/Flixel or Haxe if the project lends itself for it.

Food will mostly be sandwiches, possibly a steakburger, or pasta all of which is stocked in the fridge.
I’m already on IRC and I plan to be around working and hoping for inspiration to come. If I don’t manage to pull something in 48 hours I will still be there to hang out with some great people, and maybe lending a hand wherever I can.

Cheers!!

Hi everyone! I’m 10Print, and this is my intro post. LD16 is going to be my first.

I’ve been coding ever since I signed out a BASIC book from the library at the age of 7. I mainly work in Python/Pygame, though I’m attempting to learn Lua and am strongly considering doing this competition in LÖVE.

I think the most challenging part for me is going to be having to create all the media myself. I have always relied on other members of a team (or online resources) for this. Perhaps I’ll take the easy route and make a roguelike (something I’ve always wanted to do), but for the sake of challenging myself I’m going to at least attempt making graphics and audio. Apologies in advance.

I’m going to be doing a timelapse video, as well as a ustream of the insanity that will be this weekend.

Hello everyone,

First time LD’er here, looking forwards to seeing what odd combination of themes combine to inspire us to greatness this time! I’ve got a long weekend free (it’s a Bank Holiday – woo!) and nothing to get in the way but my own procrastination. I’m intending to do my entry in XNA/C#, if that’s allowed, using SketchUp with a .X exporter for any 3d graphics I may happen to need. Of course, never having used XNA or C# in anger before, it should be a hell of a learning experience – hence the title of this post!

In real life I’m a professional Level Designer – which usually means I know a bit of scripting, and a bit of art – but not that much of either! Wish me luck, as I wish you all the same!

Hey, everyone.

This will be my first Ludum Dare, though I’ve been watching from the sidelines for a few rounds now. I’m really looking forward to trying this out, though I do have a few other things going on this weekend that will take some time away from coding.

I’ll be using Ruby + Gosu for my game, plus possibly some other libraries like Chipmunk, TexPlay, etc., depending on the theme. I may end up using some support code for Gosu, Chipmunk, etc, I’ve got in my BitBucket repository… or I may not. Either way, I suppose that counts as a custom library, so I’m announcing it here before hand.

Best of luck to everyone!

Edit: Just discovered the wonderful sfxr for sound effects, which I’ll definitely be using. Depending on the theme and the game I end up trying to make, I may use Pixen or perhaps just draw lines and circles and stuff, for graphics.

Like a few other here, this’ll be my first LD. I’ll be using Construct for the creation of the binary if my concept ends up being 2D. For 3D, I have a variety of technologies I’d like to explore.

The first is Dage. I’ve been playing around with it for a few days now, and even though the odds of me getting to make a 3D adventure game are hard, I’d certainly embrace the chance to use my recent experience.

I’m also not above Unity, if the trial is viable.

No matter what I use to assemble the game, though, I’ll be using Blender, Photoshop, and Notepad++ for the majority of modeling, texturing/art, and writing, respectively. I know that I’m a bad egg and should use GIMP–but, hey, I like Photoshop’s interface better. If I wind up with Dage, I’ll also have to use Max in my pipeline, another evil, commercial program.

As far as my experience in other areas, I’ve tried a few compos, followed more than a few, but never made a real entry. I’m determined to sneak one into this LD. I’m pretty experienced with Construct, Blender, and Photoshop, and I’m just learning other techs like Unity and Dage. I grasp programming concepts pretty well (Event Sheets in Construct come almost naturally to me), but I fail pretty hard at actual programming (even XNA is beyond me). I like it that way. I like that in this modern day and age, there’s a bunch of technologies (Construct, MMF, AGS, Wintermute) that allow you to script an entire game without programming it. I like that many things are set up for you, and I like WYSIWYG. There’s nothing wrong with WYSIWYG in my book–if you can create something totally awesome, it doesn’t matter by what means.

Anyway, that’s me. Sorry for being wordy. I can’t wait to participate, honestly. I’m sure I’ll be dreading my decision in about 144 hours.
