Sewers - Overboy - Competition Entry

Andy Wolff and I made this.

It's a game about a small boy in a large sewer. It's your job to get him to interact with his surroundings in the hope to find the five different endings. I'd like to think of this as a complicated love story with the raw emotions of humans really showing. It brings up the complexity of how people deal with relationships and ultimately what they do to keep them alive. It's very deep.

GAH! This game would be so great if the alligators didn't have superpowers! I can only handle trying the same thing (especially since I had to restart the WHOLE FREAKING GAME) so many times, and that first alligator spot is just ridiculous. Seeing how you latch to the ground underwater (for some reason) and successfully jumping out of the water is nigh impossible, that spot is just stupid hard. I actually started skipping the girl altogether just because I was annoyed and wanted to get back to that part to see how fast I would DIE again.

I like this, and didn't find the alligators *quite* as challenging as vede did, but still, repetition can get a bit old. The worst part is probably if you choose to keep pursuing the girl, in which case you have to wait for the heart to bloom ever other screen...

Otherwise, I like the feel of this, the loneliness, the darkness, the mysterious men that make it all feel very allegorical. Liked the basic division of the world into two parts (above and below water). Only managed to find 3 endings, though, so am curious as to what the other two are.

I didn't find the alligators too hard to avoid once I got used to how they moved, but I think restarting the whole game if one gets you is too harsh of a punishment. Other than that I enjoyed it, nice music and nice atmosphere in general, but after getting three endings I didn't really feel like looking for the others.
