Life Buster - AyCe - 48 Hour Compo Entry

JAVA 6 OR HIGHER REQUIRED (for any version)

Anybody who read my posts knows I wanted to make a game about goats. Demonic goats. Well not really. But: They could dig! :D

That however, was long time ago (just some hours actually), and because I need to submit ANYTHING, take this piece of ****.

It even has sound & music! (If the sound is working for you)
You can toggle that with F5 and F6.

I won't explain anything about the game here. Start & read. Or read the comments. Or ask me (for example by commenting). ^^

Use P or pause key to... guess what.

Oh, end the game anytime with F10. It was a developer cheat, which I forgot to remove.

    SUBMITTED VERY CLOSE TO DEADLINE!

Some lags, but if you improve the game, it might be a good one. :)

Lags? How old is your computer, I tested it on several machines and there was no lag at all ^^
Anyway, thanks for playing! :D It was not really intented to be a super awesome game but is rather some kind of excuse for not submitting a game for LD 24.

Dude, did I just give someone explosive cancer? This game was extremely villainous. Not bad for 5 hours. Liked the music

Thanks you for testing, glad you liked the music (which I made in 5 min closely before submission hour)!
Some other persons were even worried about my psychological state, how can I get the idea to make a game about ruining other peoples lives? ^^

The game is great, but the only thing I don't like that gui doesn't let you put the traps in the area.

    AyCe says ...
    Dec 18, 2012 @ 2:49pm

Actually, you CAN place traps (or misfortunes) under the gui (they just wont render, because they are covered). What you CANNOT do, is place them directly on the smilies.

is it a broccoli? nice job =) but the first screen is too confusing

Fairly enjoyable for something made in such a short time period. Not much strategy to it, but guess it was going for something a bit more twitchy.

I like the explosive cancer, there should be more like this which "spread" and have cool effects after one smiley gets it!

Thank you all for testing! :D
@DragonKN: Just some minutes ago I wrote something about broccoli, and now I come here to read the new comments and the first one just has that word in it xD anyway, no it's supposed to be a glass of poison ^^. And yes, the first screen IS confusing. What is important is just: Click and see what happens & watch the indicator on the right bottom.
@MarekkPie: Yeah, I just said to myself: What's the trashiest thing you can make in 5 hours? And so this came to be.
@BipolarMike: Of course I could have added and polished much more, if I had invested more time in it. But I'm glad I didn't and rather went for something I haven't ever trying to make before: An RTS game ^^

Game worked just fine for me. I was expecting more of a turn based game or something based on the instructions screen and was surprised to see what the gameplay actually was. Very interesting and unique take on the theme. The music was a nice touch!

    Thank you for testing!

@Drabiter: Nice, thank you for that feedback. Sound on Linux with Java has always been an issue... (at least for me)

@SonnyBone: It was the most basic idea I could think of, when brainstorming about villain -> bad -> hurting others -> DESTROYING OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES! MUAHAHA. Thanks for liking the music (but I can do it much better ^^)

I got two goats in a row! Take that smiley faces. Gets a bit tiresome with no real objective or end game but good stuff all the same. Nice audio.

Thank you for testing my game! :) If I had more time, I would have added increasing spawns, so the game is a real challenge.

Quite a funny little game. The instructions font was the most ridiculous thing ever and I couldn't read it, so I just kind of skipped past and winged it. Still pretty cool, kinda makes you feel bad to make smilies feel bad :O

    Music helped the mood.

    Dec 29, 2012 @ 11:03am

Thanks ^^ yeah, i tried to find some "evil" font, so it seems i succeeded with this one (since you couldn't read it :-)

I like the amount of different items you put in the game. You could have made the gameplay a bit more challenging though. Congrats on releasing a finished game! ;)

Thank you for testing and commenting! :) Yes, several testers found the game too easy, end yes, I would have added increasing challenge with time, but I haven't had much devtime left.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to place in the final results, you NEED votes. The easiest way to get votes is by rating other games. Judging lasts for 3 weeks following the end of Ludum Dare. For best effect, rate 20 games as soon as possible. Rating more games is encouraged.

MORE TIPS AND DETAILS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE

REMEMBER: The “Theme” category is only for the main theme (You are the Villain). Don’t penalize for not using Goats.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

We’ve identified the problem, and should have the page caching bugs fixed for next Ludum Dare.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
