    Sheep Breeder - Guardian_Bob - 48 Hour Compo Entry

This is my first Ludum Dare. This entry was inspired by my wife, the sheep farmer.

Traits are handed down from the parents to the children. Mean sheep tend to create more mean sheep.

Heavy sheep tend to create heavier sheep. Weight is important in a market animal. Heavy sheep also cost more to feed.

You have 15 year (15 generations) to breed the best you can.

Hit the ? for help and BG Music to turn the music on and off.

Oh and the x1->x2->x4->x8->x16->x32 change the speed when unpaused.

    Money: 88199
    Dead Sheep: 6/60
    Total: 88139

I am a sheep breeder! Yes! Fun game, took me a little while to realize the help button was just the question mark. Has a sim feel that fits the theme well. I started keeping my sheep management low by selling a ton of sheep when I realized just how long 15 years was! Music repetitive but looped nicely.

The idea has some potential, but the bare bones presentation sucks a little bit of the fun factor out of it. Not bad for a first attempt; see if you can juice it up a bit.

Yes, the feature that would have helped more than anything was the annual fair. Just didn't have time to work that out.

What can I say -- nice try. The interface was a little wierd, but great Idea.

This game made me wish I had just made a windows forms game, they make me feel nostalgic. That said, I really couldn't tell what was going on, and the music made me go insane a bit.

Cute idea, not really all that much fun though. Would have been great to have seen it as a javascript app or similar.

... all the money I made was from my allowance...

The music can be turned off by clicking the BG Music label in the status bar.

As for the money, yes I probably should have had multiple modes with the allowance and done something different with it.

LOOOL I laughed a lot while playing. The game is somewhat good and bad at the same time. One thing for sure is that it makes me laugh xD

I only wish I could have moved some sheep to the other pens.

    Aug 28, 2012 @ 8:17pm

Do you want to buy this sheep? Y/N pop-up prompt is a little unnecessary.

Um, I'm not sure why this didn't work for me. Maybe if I had a little farm and got to see the sheep increasing it would feel a bit more real. Right now, it kind of feels like a realtime spreadsheet more than a game... a bit too much like work...

I was fight more with the interface then anything else :/
at first I liked how the game looked but the interface is just wrong.
I would've like to drag & drop sheep from one pen to the other. I don't understand why there is a speed up button as things only happen at the end of the month(or did I just miss stuff?). A next month button would've been better in my opinion. The Sell Sheep button on the bottom right looks like it means the sheep that you have selected so I was surprised when the menu for all my sheep popped up. There's no information what so ever about what makes a good sheep. When is a sheep worth more? Is it the weight? Why won't it show me the worth of the sheep anywhere? Even when I sell a sheep I don't get Information on how much money I got for the sheep. I have to look at my money to figure out how much I got for that sheep.
Managing 100 sheep isn't easy when I have to click every sheep to get information about it. I would like to see some graphical information, older sheep might get a beard, heavier sheep are bigger, mean sheep look mean.

The premise of sheep breeding is seemingly random. But i had an fun little time with it.

Good and interesting take on the theme. As others have pointed out, the interface was a bit hard to comprehend, drag & drop would have helped a lot! Think it is a good starting point for more work.

Interesting concept and executed very well. The whole interface feels very win95 retro-like which is not bad (I still remember good games with similar user interface).
