Same as senekis. I just dropped death each time, but I sure do like your style.
Fantastic concept! I had to do some trickery to get it to run (running it from local files didn't work, it gave error messages, so I uploaded it to a web server and ran it from there). I wish there were more feedback about how strong you are (like a health bar or something), and it would be nice if there were checkpoints so you don't have to restart at the beginning every time.
Yeah, I don't get it either. I went a good distance the first time, but subsequent times am dying even earlier without understanding why.
There probably needs to be more explanation. It can be frustrating when I don't know why I died. e.g. _this_ lava/pulsating orb kills you but _that_ lava/pulsating orb gives you strength, with no real clues. And if I want to experiment to figure it out I have to play all the way through from the start, which is also frustrating.
Pretty good one. I had some troubles too getting how the "suffer to evolve" actually worked, but I managed to do some progress by falling into each pit I met, etc.
I gave good scores to this one. But one question remains: how can the game be so nice but the player remain a simple square?! :P
I had a similar experience to Senekis - I wasn't sure what to do as I kept dying on that big drop. It has potential though and the audio set the mood well
I downloaded this but when I run index.html my browser gives a warning and nothing shows up but a black screen.
Great graphics and style, but no gameplay... falling causes damage, and you have to fall down several cliffs with no option for avoiding the fall, so you die very quickly. Couldn't get anywhere near the parts shown in the screenshots.
Hi, Author of the game here. Thanks for all the positive and especially negative comments (you learn a lot from the negative ones, just like in the game).
As for the game not being intuitive, I completely agree. This is the first game I ever made(completely anyway) and it's definetly hard to see what you should be doing, but maybe that's the point, eh? One TIP I can give without spoiling the game is this: Don't Suffer too little and don't suffer too much, 3 SEEMS TO BE THE MAGIC NUMBER ;).
Anyway, I'm going to do something horrible now: EXPLAIN HOW TO PLAY MY OWN GAME.
[PLEASE DON'T READ THIS UNLESS YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT TO DO]
-Basically you survive the 4th fall by intentionaly suffering damage on the first 3 falls. You mustn't jump on the black ledges above the falls, if you do you'll start blinking after the 4th fall and soon die.
-After that there are 4 lava pits, you can avoid 2 of them. If you fall into all 4 you will die, and if you fall into only 2 you will start blinking (dying) after the big lava flow.
Same as SpectreNectar: Can't play the game, I only get a black screen.
Had to upload it to a local host for it to work. It was interesting and very moody. I felt like you could go really far with this one.
SPOILER
Even if I got damage from the first three fallings, I start blinking and die at the fourth. But very cool and horrifying atmosphere you made with the graphics and sound.
For those who get black screen try to run it in different browser.
@Jeremias
One of the markers is probably too low, try not to jump after the first fall and until the 4th fall.
OK I tried running it locally, then I uploaded it somewhere and tried running it online. Tried Chrome, FF & IE. No luck I'm afraid. Sorry
Not sure what it has to do with the theme, but I liked the ambiance.
Love this creepy mood. I had to read your explanation to finish it, but still liked it.
Someone should upload this on a server and put the link in the comments. It would help a lot.
The game works fine for me. Lovely atmosphere and style. I liked the idea of the game and was confused at first but I learnt how to survive the fall and the lava whilst playing.
The graphics in this are great - very atmospheric, and worked well with that background audio. Liked the idea of this game altogether, though I had to look at your clue in the comments to complete it. Nice work. :-)
I guess finding the man at the end counts as winning? There doesn't appear to be a win condition to find.
I got it to work in IE, and while I had to read the hint in the comments, I guess I finished it. Great mood.
I liked the graphics and I understood that taking damage should make me stronger, but that actual getting-stronger bit seemed a bit arbitrary. For example, I'd stepped in all of the lava pits I'd encountered to no visible effect, and then died when stepping into one more.
Reminds me a lot of Limbo, particularly the suffering theme and the graphical style. Great mood. Unfortunately I could not figure out how to go very far, or proceed beyond the first really tall fall that kills me. Also the audio, while very subtle, works very well with this game. Great mood.
Nice idea, very cool atmosphere.
It could use some more detail to help the player figure out that there's a "correct" amount of torment. For me, the falling early on made me think that I had to get hurt by every obstacle to proceed, I never would have guessed that I was dying from overexposure.

I didn't understand what to do. You say that you evolve by suffering, but instead I always died at the same spot, like a minute after teh start, just move to the right side and you eventually die.
That said, I fucking loved the graphics and the general atmosphere of the game. Great job there!
I'll give it another try tomorrow. Maybe I'm too tired after playing so many games and I missed something obvious.
