Hi metadept, thank you very much for your comments! :) I will try to do something a little less messy next time, thank you! :)
I'm a hermaphrodite creature? STILL A PRINCESS :D
Nice idea. I agree that we miss controls over the over creatures. I'm just waiting for my prince while killing those who are too different.
Instantly love the style and humor! found it just too hard though and ended up randomly killing everyone and anyone just to watch them flee :) Part of the problem for me was the colour of the background, I found it difficult to see black lines on the dark background - wasn't friendly to my 2560x1600 resolution either.
Love it! Great casual game, spot-on with the theme and very funny :-)
I loved this game. I won after killing 85 Ludumis in 245 seconds :D
I liked the way you could only indirectly influence the reproduction. I ran around killing half my ludumis as soon as some appeared with three bars on their heads. (related: am I the only one who thinks they look a little like toasters?)
The story was great, the art was unique. Frankly, the pictures don't show it off very well. Great job khoa.
That was one of those "Frustrating, but I know I can win, and I won't stop trying until I do!" games. :-) Enjoyed it, especially as the sound effects for some reason reminded me of Frankie Howerd and Kenneth Williams from the Carry On films. Loved the comments that the creatures made too.
I had a lot of fun! The sounds were hilarious, and the gameplay was cool and different. Good job!
I love how this game-play makes use of the selection mechanism in a very simplistic way. Despite me hating people who kill others because they didn't like their face, the game was really enjoyable for a short while.
whenever i find the right person i end up killing them :(
but then i won! ba da da daah!
it was fun and the programming was good at how everyone gets worried when somebody dies. good job!
*surprisingly you got all 3's!*

The instructions were perfectly written and funny enough to make me chuckle, the problem is that the gameplay is so out of my hands after that. There are a sizeable amount of creatures and they breed far too quickly for me to be able to effectively prune the undesirables. I did my best but it was taking too long for my prince to come along and I eventually gave up. I think with a limited amount of creatures it might be more manageable.
Still, great use of the theme and the sounds effects when you kill a lineage is fantastic xD
FYI, your game works fine on Linux (Ubuntu 12.04). I just cloned your git repo, and everything worked. I just needed to:
apt-get install libsdl-ttf2.0-dev libvorbis-dev libsndfile1-dev libfreeimage-dev libxinerama-dev
gem install pango
gem install gosu
And then I just ran the game with ruby 1.9.3
Anyway, your game is really great! A very nice take on the theme, and really fun too! After a bunch of tries, I finally won (18 killed, 32 seconds, so I think I just got lucky).
This is one of my absolute favorites so far.
I've sunk in quite some minutes trying to find my perfect partner, and it was a journey of violence and extreme abuse of power. But little by little, as I could see my population becoming more and more like me, I realized it was all worth it. My dream was becoming closer and closer to reality. What are a few hundred lives if it means to have control over life itself???
After I had successfully eliminated all of those pesky top antennae, Ludumia became this beautiful country of only side antennae, and I knew I just had to wait. Finally I saw him/her/it. My dream partner, my other half (that looks extremely like my own half). As I rushed towards him/her/it, I killed a couple of his/her/its companions, and he/she/it freaked out and ran from me. But as I rushed and grabbed him/her/it by the very antennae, we finally became one.
I probably killed him/her/it after a few minutes of extreme pleasure.
Honestly, it feels great when you finally win, and you feel like you truly deserved it. It's one of those games where the outcome really depends entirely on the player and the player's strategies.
Awesome game, congrats. Great idea, perfect use of the theme, quite original. Very simple and elegant, too.
I would only suggest making levels for it. It might go against your original idea for the game, but it starts out being too tough already, and it can put some people off.
I'll be recommending this one.
Thank you very very much azurenimbus for your comment! You're very kind :)
Can't get it to work unfortunately, clicking the link just gives me blank, gray screen.
Argh, never mind my previous comment, commented a wrong game!
This was really funny, the sound effects and little texts like "oh GOD!" "bitch!" "I don't wantz to die!" were hilarious! I won accidentally, I guess I was supposed to ram a character that looked like me.
Awesome idea! Nice music, but a little repetitive.
It was difficult to develop a strategy with all the fast movement and small sprites. I think this could be a lot more fun and interesting with some tweaking.
Perhaps more explanation of the inheritance mechanic would be good too. I think I get it, but it's not very clear from instructions.
Hi demonpants. I tried to make a version for Mac but I didn't succeed. However, you probably can install it with sources (but it is probably not so easy).
Not sure I like the idea of mass murder over appearance but it was a fun game anyway.

Not bad! The only things I found myself wishing for were a way to scare/herd the ludums and separate them out a bit, and a way to move through them without killing them (maybe a different button to attack?). Pretty fun, though.
