Couldn't get past the first room. Those little pink thingies on the floor killed me no matter where I ran. :(
"YOU ARE DEAD!!!" Haha, it's cute. Is it a homemade 3D renderer/engine?
Like the other two, I didn't get very far...
Well it shouldn't be ESC to continue after the text at the begining because it's either SPACE or a mouse click afterwards. Sadly Right after the phone ring pop up window the game locks - music still playing.
Btw very nice music!
So, I get the idea your dad doesn't know about this?
My advice, tell him. No matter what he'll say.
On the game: I can't finish it. I can't pick up the key on the second level.
Oh, and another thing: It would be a lot better without the default GM pop-ups.
Oh, and try not to make too many patches/updates. It makes you look like you're cheating.
Why must I comment so many times, I have no idea.
You know, Mohammad, if I could, I'd like to contact you through something like irc or email. We have much to discuss.
he does.
he thinks its nonsense and wont get me anything
he says just go to school
ok i will, but how will that help me with gamemaking?
if anything its been making me lose time in development.
school never game me anything.
nither have games.
SO WHAT THE HELL IS THE DIFFRENCE?!?!??!?!?!!
What's been making you lose time? I guess you mean telling your dad. Well, here's how it'll help. If you can get him to believe that making games isn't a waste of time, then you can get him to let you spend more time making games. Perhaps show him that it's a valid profession. Heck, show him this comment. Anything to help him realize that this stuff can get you places.
pullemoon, you dont get it.
this is my dad, not my wife,or my son, or somewon who will listen to me. this is my dad, a parent, a adult, somewon who demands athourity and respect. who doesnt care. whos IGNORENT. dont you get it, he doesnt CARE. all parents dont CARE. they just want me in a collage, have a 2.0 api, and just want me to leave their house and get a JOB. one THEY want, not one i want, like a doctor. OK? they dont CARE
First of all, not all parents don't care. My parents care. Iandioch's parents care. Many parents care, so don't go insulting them all.
Now, secondly, I think that you need to tell them these things. If you don't want to be what they want you to be, then just tell them that. Tell them that this is the job you want. But don't take it from me, you have to know this yourself. Are you sure, above all other things, that becoming a game developer is what you want? It's not easy, such is the truth with many professions, and from the looks of this, you have a long way to go. (No offense, please take that the right way.)
I do get it, Mohammad. If they are your parents, they will listen to you, okay? Trust me on this. If you can get them to be PROUD of you, then that is all you need. No more excuses. And besides, if they want your respect, they should give you respect, too. That's what family is.
but they arnt proud of me.
this is a curse to them.
im going INSANE with my parents.
all they want is to destroy what i want.
they think they know whats best.
they DONT know whats best.
if something trubles me or them, they DESTROY IT,KILL IT, REMOVE IT. NO MATTER WHAT.
my parents are ignorant and get there way. they use what i love as a threat. my cat,my laptop, the tv, my 3ds my friends. ANYTHING. and they WILL destroy it. and use it as an exsample. i HATE them BOTH. i dont love my parents because i show them respect but they dont show it for me. ok? nothing will impress them. they hate EVERYTHING. and ive given up on them, im near the point of useing the knife and shedding blood to get back. ive lost my sainty to them.why? THEY DESTROYED IT. ok? nothing will please them. so just kill me, here and now, so i dont have to face a life of pain. ok? happY?
ive shown them again and again that you can make money off these games and what does he say:
"ok, but you'll have to go to school first, and because of that you need to focus, so im taking the computer away."
and then i go outside, pull a knife and throw it into the wall.
and what will impress my dad and show him im not worthless?
ive made over 50+ programs and games, ive impressed all my friends, but thats as far as it will get me.
there is no hope, im just going to leave, then go insane and have a war with pop-up paper soldiers RPG style.
I sincerely hope your kidding about killing you. Your life is still young. Never talk like that, even if you don't mean it.
Think of it from their point of view. They want you to go to school so you can have a good life. There's nothing wrong with that, because if you don't make it in game development, and you have no education to fall back on, then you're sunk. Now, taking the computer away, though, I understand that.
It sounds to me like you're going through some tough times. You may be saying you hate them now, and I know I can't stop from saying it. But please, try and cool off. There's no need for this anger.
Here comes some of the best advice yet. Listen closely. Or... read closely, I guess. Do you have some other adult you know that you think will listen to you? Possibly a teacher or someone else who works at school? Tell them these things you're telling me. Your parents may not listen to you, but if you can find someone else that will, they can speak on your behalf, and because they and your parents are on the same ground, a more understanding conversation can take place.
nope...
not really.
all i have are a few friends and people who comment and play my games. other than that, i really have nobody.
thats why when i enter the october challange, ill give away all the money to the LD website to piss off my greedy dad to show him that he cant controll me, and i dont care about the money.
watch my videos, thell tell you more about my status for gamemaking. i just hate though that my dad cant just pull me away from something like taking a lollipop from a baby.
ive never done amything bad,its just that he thinks im obsessed, when really, i just want to accomplish somthing big as a 13 year old. not just sit there and wait for my knowlege to rot in a cubicle. so help, please.
Well then, that's a noble goal, I suppose. But first, make it clear he knows you got money!
right!
(ill have to open a bank account in secret, because he wont even let me have that!)
Listen to your parents, go to school, get an education. You will be a crappy developer with very few ideas if you aren't exposed to new things in college or university. You're young and you have plenty of time to be a game developer later. You never know, you might be exposed to something else that interests you as much as games do. Perhaps you can even combine the two interests. Nothing is stopping you from doing it in your spare time, but school should be your focus. You'd be surprised how often those things you learned come back in real life when you've got kids and a house and a job. But hey, I've only been programming for the past 27 of my 34 years, so what do I know, right?
im listening, but when you put soo much pressure on me like that, by trying to make my free time difficult, then i might as well go to hell, become a cashier, and give up on my dream.
i know what your saying, but my dad cant just think whats what for me. i want to get into a good colloge, and im saving for it, but if your right, i can just be like them, and beat or insult my kids if they think diffrent than me.
because just my parents, fans can be ignorent, but there right, and now ill just forget the ludum and delete gamemaker, blender, and all my files, because i shouldent even touch the subject.
you killed by smile, and gave me a frown, so ill just do the same for my kin. because there just as bad as me
hey things will be alright, you'll graduate from high school, and then be off on your own. it's not that far away. If you want independence early, to not have to listen to your parents or whoever, follow your dreams, look for a job, and support yourself, try to get a cheap apartment. It's possible, prioritize and work damn hard to make it happen. You can't work and learn in that kind of environment. Also you should give them some credit from providing a roof over your head and feeding you over the years, they at least care that much about you. It could be far worse. You can at least pretend to get along to make things easier, it would help with getting work done at least. Stuff to consider.
Okay, dude, okay, I may have not been programming for 27 years, but neither am I a 14-year-old kid. I'm the guy who has wanted to make games his whole life. I actually started developing games while at school. I think I was 12 or something when I made my first game. Does that sound familiar to you? Oh and I hated my parents. Boy, I despised them. I have graduated from a university this year, and I'm going to France to study game design in october, because I think that this is actually good for me, even though when I was your age, I had exactly the same shit in my head. And I do remember it very clearly, and I totally get where this is coming from.
Now, here's the thing: you can't just say that something is good or bad for you until you actually try it yourself. Forget gamasutra, forget shit game developers say. Turn on your brain, you should be able to do this if you want to be a game developer.
Here's how I see it, and you might think that this is all bullshit, but just read it, alright? And think about it. Game development is an insanely complicated business to be in. You have to know all kinds of shit. Your work is never repetitive, you do all sorts of creative stuff. You have to be both artistic and technical if you want to be a good game developer, whatever you do in the business. Yes, it is a dream job. Yes, it is probably the most rewarding job a human being is entitled to get. But guess what, you have to be experienced, you have to know all sorts of shit to do this. You cannot just focus on games. Go ahead and ask someone big, someone like Peter Molyneux (I'm sure you've heard of the dude) or Notch, for that matter, you go ask them where they draw inspiration for their games. Do you think game dev is only about games? It is the most meta media that exists. Anything you do in life you can apply to game development if you're smart enough, and I sure hope you are smart, because if you're not, no amount of practice will ever help you, so you better be or get. My point is, everything you will learn in college is an experience, and without that you can't make shit. It will also probably give you some perspective. True, it doesn't make a hell lot of difference what you get your degree in as long as you keep working on your gamedev after school. And yes, game dev is a full time occupation, so you _will_ have to work after school.
Please, just cut the crap with "give up on my dream." You will have free time in college. You will also learn new shit even if you don't exactly study there, and that will be good for you, trust me. Like I said, I went through this whole routine myself only recently and I know what I'm talking about.
And it's okay to be angry at your parents, just as long as you don't lose perspective and see that they actually give a shit about you. They just fucking do. You will learn that this is actually a very rare commodity in life to have people actually give a shit.
Please, don't reply to me. I'm not going to check this page again in my life. Just think about it. Think carefully. That's all I ask.
To anybody who's going to rate this, you may take interest in this mirror of the older version, in case you think he's cheating with these updates like this: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/74538317/fps_extention.exe
If you think what he's doing is fine, that's okay too.
guys before you make a hater or a** kisser vote,
note that this is a JAM ENTRY.
so, if you think im cheating, your a dumb***.
a JAM ENTRY, this was made on a engine, with premade sounds, with *few* premade textures. ok? witch was all allowed during the jam. and just so you know, i put only one patch, and if this goes on, ill just remove the game allthogher, because the commuinty id sll butt-hurt over one god d*** entry.
if your brought here by puzzlem00ns deperation, come here to help with problems, give adive, were both on the same side, and if you argue with me, your arguing with both of us b****.
and to piss you guys off, you big babies:

and, THATS how you piss somewon off!
Not really. We never said you were cheating with the whole premade thing, that's what the Jam is. We never said you couldn't link your sites and channels. Minecraft, maybe, that's kinda annoying still. And the patch thing is sort of shifty, but you haven't gone too far as of yet.
@lonestranger
go to fucking hell, you sounded better on the posts.
i know what school is for, and i liked how they became a e-school. my school isnt bad, but its ovious your not on my, or puzzlem00ns side, where on the same side, so shut the fuck up, bitchfag. because your annoying. you dont get the sitouation. my parents are EVIL. your a game developer right? then why do you want to agree with the person who wants me to leave the ludum. its all your fault, and you almost got away with it, but i stood up to my dad, and i can mother fucking stand againts a cunt of prick like you.
so get out of here, we dont need narrow-minded comments like yours. this is advice? i fucking fighting againts this. you oviously dont get it. get out before i one day meet you in a dark ally, pussy. now go ask your fatass wife to make you a sandwich, because you need it now.
mother fucker.
Mohammad, seriously, just listen to Puzzlem00n, Sergey Mohov, and LoneStranger. School is way more important than making games, you are young. Making games is a hobby for you. It is not yet your profession, it could be, if you just follow your school studies.
Alright everybody, calm down. Reset. Lets start over. mohammad, check your e-mail.
well, that made my heart leap longer than a olimpian at the long jump.
im going to wait a few days, and if too much action breaks out besides poV's appearance, ill just remove the game to prevent a riot from going on.
I can't rate because I didn't submit a game this time around, but here are my thoughts:
The sound is kind of painful at times. It's sharp and cuts off abruptly.
The gun is definitely the shotgun from Doom. I know you entered in the jam, but I think that's pushing it. The assets from Doom are still under copyright.
Not really sure how it tied into the theme.
I guess I just didn't like it, overall.
ok, im fine with that rating.
I was running this on an engine when i posted this, because i came with a shotgun sprite, and when i got into development, i only had 10 hours left, so i really didn't want to edit what the engine already implemented.
ill make sure it doesn't happen again.
Okay, if it came with the engine, that's no big deal. That's their fault, not yours.
thanks.
next time ill try and create an engine of my own before going into the ludum like that again. i just spent soo much time on models.
well how did my game make it second on "play and rate games"
oh boy, lets get started!
The instructions say you have to use the key space to fire?...i cant fire to those pink little warms, i think you can do better :)
next time use a powerfull 3d engine, even in C++/C# if you want to learn something usefull.
I was like you, but I go learn outside each evening, and to the school ,university and post-grade, those things push my limits and made me a new way of thinking, that's the right way, dont forget it
let me put it short:
quote "im not a big fan of banning, but if this continues, action must be taken." in short, i nearly got banned.
@juaxix
not being mean, but in the instructions, you cannot shoot the monsters. a blend file will be uploaded to show what they looked like, its just that you cant render stuff in gamemaker.
and next time ill develop my own engine that ill use for my other games so this doesn't happen again.
I'm rather confused, there was red, did I win or die a horrible death? Great show just for a weekend, good music too, kinda tied it together.
Cool game, I like the environments and the blood catwalks, those where awesome. Don't worry about lonestranger he sounds like a bit of a knob, keep doing what you're doing man.
Can't seem to pick up a key in one of the rooms. The textures and music were nicely foreboding.
well, if you saved <enter> you can load(right mouse button) without any problems.
Good game, but lack of a back wall will most likely cause players to try and cheat, also couldn't get past the first room because the monsters out speed me
I would take a few steps then lose life and die horribly. Every time.
This game is difficult! I can only beat the first level by walking out the void at the beginning of the level and heading to the flag, but the second level is beyond me. Still, the music is incredible for this game! I love it!
@juaxix
good idea, but how am i supposed to learn a new scripting language when nobody wants to teach me? iv'e tried programming in a different language with google docs, and it was like defusing a bomb. you don't know what to do, and if you do it wrong, the thing goes boom.
@evilseanbot:
try it again and again, because the centering is off.
try grabbing it at the key teeth
You don't need someone to want to teach you, you just need internet tutorials and such.
ill have to look into that.
most of them are collage applications.
not very useful at my age :(
Yeah, well, you get used to that. I wouldn't be where I am today without internet tutorials.
Of course, that's not saying much, is it?
Well, that...is just one chapter of a java book.
I'm trying to check out "Java In Twenty-Four Hours."
It's kinda funny because the OTHER Java book I got was covering 1.1!
But programming is ALOT easier with GameMaker.
In even FLASH, it could take up to 15-20 lines of code to import a sprite. In GameMaker it takes only one line.
And recently i downloaded this Awsome 3-d extension where you only have to use Drag-and-Drop commands instead of code.
MAN! Typing in caps is HARD!
It's the same as your game, just press shift. (Haha, irony.)
It's only easy in GM because, technically, their are that many lines needed there, too, it's just they do it for you by doing a bunch of calls from your single call.
True.
But ALWAYS take an advantage.
But it's their fault to make this program, and to put so much effort onto it. But they seem to love it. (And so do I!)
hay mo, its me eric. from school! i like your game, i dident submit a game this time so i cant rate yours. so just hang in there. :D
Um...this might be overkill, judging by the previous comments posted on this tread, but this game looks alot like the first person shooter sample game for gamemaker... http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/make/tutorials The one at the bottom of the screen...
I just "Edited" a few things from that engine, but about %85 was made by me!
The Shotgun(Edited), Ammo pack (Edited), Health pack, Walls, Barrels, Doors(edited), Was the one things I used in that engine. Everything else was scrapped or replaced.
I'm trying but some features for GameMaker Mac don't work unlike Windows :[ .
I know I sad I try to review anyones game who rated mine but sorry, after reading your journal and all the comments and watched the video I think I will leave this out. I really can't get what is the value I can rate in this creation. I know it's a jam entry but I can't point out a thing that was actually made by you except for the bad level design so I'll leave this out.
So i'm a big cheater to you eh?
Well, I programmed the stuff I said above.
Heck, I used the example for a 3d engine. Not for anything else. Heck, I would call all you Unity or LOVE users as cheaters too but I realize how hard it is to make games without them, so I don't argue. Heck, We are all cheaters here! Your a cheater for using the web to host your game, I'm a cheater because I used a engine for 3d. Puzzlem00n is a cheater for typing in caps so he can be respected more. MY SANDWICH IS A CHEATER BECAUSE IT GIVES AWAY NUTRIENTS TO HELP ME THINK BUT NOT FOR YOU. In short, RawBits, I made a game, And you took the wrong assumption of it. Sorry.
Hey this is just a comment and not a review (I'm only playing web games). Reading all the comments I would just like to say keep up the game development I wish I had started making them sooner. But as well as that work hard at school, it might not seem relevant right now but you need to do well to attend College and University. Once you get there you have a lot more choice about what you study, things like Maths, Science, and Computing as well as English and History (if you want a story that doesn't suck) are all subjects you need to know if you want to make good games :) Your parents at least appreciate education is important and it's a shame they aren't supportive of your hobby.
One last thing, calm down a bit you are posting a huge number of comments all over the website, then DON'T USE UPPERCASE ALL THE TIME IN EVERY COMMENT (as people read it as if you were shouting), don't get provoked into arguments, keep making games, keep learning, oh and P.S. challenge yourself write something in flash or java script, sure it's harder but the challenge is good for you and will make you a better programmer, give you more control over design and get your game out to much more people.
@Mohammad: The sandwich thing is my bit. ;) Oh, and I pretty much agree, he should review it.
@darkshadow
I know no other scripting language.
The only one i'm good at is GML.
When you posted "Mac version please" on my game 3 times I'm not sure if you're joking or not. "All" means all platforms. Applet works on all platforms. http://www.otcsw.com/applet/DarwinsApple/DarwinsApple.jar
On an unrelated note - I make more money than both my parents combined and I've only been professional for 4 years. I work in the game industry. It's a very valid way to make money and game engineers are in incredibly high demand. Tell your dad that.
Tried to run your entry on Linux using Wine. The screen was white, but the boxes appeared. It crashed after the end of the ringphone dialogue (I guess it was the end of it).
No rating.
0_0
Well, if you used Wine, I don't know what to say.
But this was more or less made for windows that can handle .EXE's. Opps...
If it just froze, then your using the Original.
Thats just a freezing glitch.
Fixed it in the post-compo. Play that.
Your controls are all over the place. Arrows to move and Space to fire, then Esc, and then you want me to click?
Also, spellchecking please.
I feel that the controls seem comfortable to me.
Plus I don't see any spelling error done on accident.
Could you clarify them?
Yeah...I really don't feel like gamemaking anymore with school on the mind. I feel rushed. I'm taking a "Break" for all this.
Oh S***!
%98 of coolness?
Ill have to remember that.
(Although it probably doesn't matter.)
You must sign in to comment.

The turning speed is much too slow, and on several occasions, the whole game froze for a few seconds before continuing. (If it helps, immediately after it freezes new music starts playing) The music is pretty nice.
Some fog or other effect would have helped with the horror aspect. All in all, not bad.
