Ludum Dare 23

Small World - psychopsam - Jam Entry
This a shoot-em-up on a microscopic scale. I'm pretty happy with the shader, and the blaster action is quite satisfying. Hope y'all enjoy it too. (MAC version may run slow - not fully optimised)

If you are unlucky enough to start with an enemy near you, or if you get knocked down with 2+ enemies nearby at any time, then you mind as well be dead because you get knocked down every single time you get hit and can't do anything until your standing up sequence is completed. Even against one enemy, you can only get a few shots off before you are on the ground again. Even if you start off well, it's hard to hit them because your head is in the way and not off to the side like any normal Third Person Shooter..
Audio and graphics are top-notch, and the game as a whole is complete. The only problem I had was that the avatar's head would block my view so I couldn't see where I was going.
There's a cheat - keep moving back while the player is falling over and standing - the players movement is being recorded and you'll jump way back to a safe spot.
Just start blasting early as well.
Rapid fire that mouse and you'll be right. I'd like to add the head to side and fix up the aiming - but I ran out of time.
Oh yeah - don't hang around on the title screen - because the bad guys are moving toward you from the start.
this ran really slow on my computer, but it was super-pretty and the control scheme was interesting
@moosh - what are your specs? Perhaps I can make a lite version.
Unfortunately, my PC is too weak to manage your game without lag (in fact, I've tested a fuzzy slow-motion game). But despicts that, I've rescued the first scientist and kill two viruses, so I consider that as a fair test, and wow, I wish I could test it with a good PC...
Thanks for this game.
Tried to play it on a Mac but it just keeps crashing when I start playing.
Everything but the player seems to have been rendered a solid medium gray. I'm on Windows XP if that helps.
Looks AMAZING but the framerate is VERY slow on a Thinkpad T61p (Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 8GB RAM, discrete graphics).
VERY impressive graphics and sound.
The game isn't actually much fun though. It's annoying trying to aim through the character's head and the aiming controls feel like I'm moving my weapon through custard.
Since the bad guys move so much faster than the player does, and sneak up from behind, and the weapon moves so slowly, it's pretty much impossible to shoot or avoid them all.
Sorry, no rating because I had only ~3 FPS (Laptop with Linux)
