Atomic Bug - zairon - 48 Hour Compo Entry
This is a tower-defense like game, but I didn't really get to finish it. The obvious thing missing is more than one combination of atoms to make weapons. I wanted to add lots more enemies, and weapons that can block the lane. I will flesh this out over the next few days though and try out those ideas. I think this game could be fun!

It's not your fault! I ran out of time to implement anything other than water. Time management was my worst enemy this LD.
Cool idea. But you should really implement more than one element!
Really good idea, but absolutely not complete (lacking gameplay) and lacking music. Please continue with this game idea!
I think this is a nice idea, and could be a great learning tool for chemistry students too!
It won't get high ratings on fun right now but the potential is clearly there! I hope you finish this one.
A really strange and interesting approach for a game. But the overall has a lack of fun to me.
However there are a lot of work and you have published in time, just for that: well done :)
Ah, didn't see that H20 was the only implemented weapon. It would be nice to state that in the instructions... also, it was hard to constantly be making things and then dropping them too (on a touchpad/no mouse). Interesting idea though.
I gave you a higher score just because of the "Congratulations! You have died." at the end. The game didn't seem to get anywhere and certain combinations did nothing (H2O2 - hydrogen peroxide, CO2 - carbon dioxide) etc. Probably make a bigger disclaimer that only water works.
I am working on a post-LD version. Your criticisms are well taken! Some new features:
* Single clicks from the periodic table for adding atoms to combiner
* Recent and favorite recipes list that if you click on will automatically add the ingredients to the combiner
* An arsenal toolbox to store up already combined molecules.
* Bunches of new recipes, although for game purposes some of them are not "realistic". For example, Ca2C makes a very tough wall for the bugs to chomp on or move around. Another neat one is FeH2O, which makes blood! The bugs will be attracted to this to eat.
* Adding more bombs/blocks adds more tactics to fight newly added bugs, like ones that jump over walls, bugs that fire their own bombs at the blocks you place, bugs that can shield other bugs from bombs.
* Ladybugs are your allies! I need to think up a good recipe for them, but you will be able to drop them and they will head the other direction to eat enemy bugs.
In other words, all the gameplay things I didn't get to add because I spent too much time on the code. Someday I will learn.
Great concept!
I guess I'm going to wait for the post-ld version for more gameplay :-)
It took a long time, but I did update it a bit. Atomic Bug still needs a lot of work. The idea isn't panning out the way I should, but OP delivers: http://www.zairon.com/applets/java/AtomicBug/

Interesting idea... but since it's being a while since I last studied Chemistry... I couldn't do more than H2O... xD
