tiny world war - Jonny D - 48 Hour Compo Entry
Play with up to 4 players in nostalgic tank combat (remember the good old days when you drove a tank?).
Relive all the excitement of your army days with four different weapons and two game modes (team battle and free for all).
When setting up your controls, you can use any combination of buttons on any keyboard or joystick. If only you could plug in real tank controls, it would be perfect...
A note about the controls: Controls are naturally mapped, so "left" makes your tank go left, etc. To facilitate hiding among allies, your tank is unidentified. Part of the fun is figuring out which tank you are and which tank your target is. War is messy.

I just tested on XP and it works for me. It probably depends on your hardware or drivers. It uses OpenGL+extensions.
I tried running it and the window automatically closed as soon as it opened.
Gamplay works great. Really fun to play. Didn't enjoy the arts though... But hey, who cares ? Game are also about fun ! And it is fun ! GG
I love the intro music so much! You should play it during the games. How did you make it?
I liked how each player seemed to have their own little army of AI tanks! Definitely deserves some more development.
Great Entry! I liked this game from it's beginning! Adding extra weapons was really great idea! One problem is NPC, cause in the 2v2 battles they can only ruin the game (IMHO)
@Chtulhu
The music was done in Fruity Loops. I just tossed it together quickly. It's really only a beat loop and an arp loop.
@VoidChronos
Yeah, I wanted to add more control over how many teammates you have. You can edit the level file and remove some "Player" entries to remove the corresponding AI players. Save it as a new level and it will show up in the game's browser.
Really nice, I guess playing this with friends would be awesome =)
Pretty fun game! The AI could use a bit of work (can get mutually stuck across a building), but overall this is a really solid entry.
Sweet game, I loved how fluent it is, I played with 3 more friends and it was a blast :D
This is really fun! I played alone, but the AI was lively enough to keep things interesting. I liked the balance between arcade-y gameplay and the slow turning of the tanks, it made for an interesting challenge. :)
I thought the theme was a bit missing, but it's good stuff anyhow! Congrats!
Controls are a bit dodgy. I couldn't tell which tank do I control, and how do I control it. Collisions - I couldn't tell if I can go behind a building or not. Other than that it's a fun little game with real multiplayer potential. I played solo though, so I guess I've missed some fun. A good candidate for an XBOX or PS game.
Fun concept! I just played with AI, but playing with friends would likely be a blast. With some improved graphics, AI, and controls this would be a game I'd want to play over and over. Like vigrid said, this would be fun on Xbox.
@demonpants Only if someone out there wants to help out. I don't have a Mac, but the game builds on Windows and Linux so it should work on MacOS without trouble.
Anyone can send an email (found at code.bluedinosaurs.com) if they're interested in that.
Umm... That's not an email address in parentheses, though it looks like it. Boy, I stink at this. :D Go to http://code.bluedinosaurs.com/about/
Ooo, a multiplayer game. I didn't have anyone to play with either, but this looks like it would be fun with more people. Also, the game crashed after I finished a round.
Sadly, it wasn't playable for me. The game runs choppy, the controls where confusing and something weird was going on with the physics. Looks like it could be fun, too bad.
@MrPhil It does run much better in a hardware fullscreen mode, but toggling fullscreen in this build doesn't work on Windows... :(
You can keep an eye on code.bluedinosaurs.com for an updated version... once I get around to putting one up.
Took me the longest time to even understand how to start playing. Could only play alone w/ the AI. In the end I couldn't figure out the controls. Seemed they would move and pivot randomly and make my tank behave all strange. Also, strafe controls for a tank w/ treads? That made me laugh a good bit. :D
@HybridMind Ah, that's too bad. The controls are a little messy because of the turning rate and they're unexpected because people are used to relative mapping instead of natural input mapping in games like this. It doesn't help that your tank is unidentified to let you hide from other players among your allies. Once you get past that, I think it works alright. Yeah, the strafe controls were meant to apply to separate treads and turret, but I didn't take the time to do that.
Works in Wine, but without sound.
Nice game, The tanks didn't feel much like tanks though, and I had some trouble with the controls.
The menus are a bit unpolished, but well done for adding that much functionality.
Looks like it might be neat, but I couldn't figure out how to get into the game. It always says "All Destroyed", even though (I think) I managed to put two players on different teams.
Also the game froze when I put focus in another window, and then back to the game (though I've seen this in other LD entries, so it may be whatever library you're using)
I thought this was well put together and fun for a 48hr game. It would be excellent if taken further.
I tried to play, and set up the game, but then the screen went black for 5 seconds and "All Destroyed..." showed up. Then the game froze. This is Win 7. Ah, that's what happens when you don't pick the level file. After that, a fun game, but very hard to control the tanks. I died, and the AI proved unable to even get to where it was supposed to fight, so it stalemated. The free-for-all is fun and exciting. Very impressive for the time involved, with the AI, different weapon sets, and the apparently customizable terrain and team play.
tried to test but the controls dont seem to work in WINE, just drives into a corner and gets stuck. good audio though
This made for a pretty fun game! The particle effects were good, but the level graphics weren't as polished. Good fun game play though!
