    Pluto's Revenge - Hattered - Jam Entry

    Pluto, the tiny non-planet, dreams of revenge.

    * The APK file is invalid for devices with less than ARMv7
    * LOVE-based ports added on April 25th
    * "LOVE (port)" requires LOVE: https://love2d.org/

    - Touch to move Pluto (LOVE ports: left-click)

    Tried to run it on the Android emulator (SDK), but it crashes just after starting.

    Hmm, 'adb install' is saying it's an invalid apk. I'll work on fixing that. I might also try porting it to LÖVE this evening (assuming that's allowed under 'porting' in the rules).

    I targeted Android because I was fixated on the idea of controlling Pluto by tilting the device, which I had to drop because it's something the Corona Simulator doesn't simulate. I should have stuck with what I know, but at least I've finally tried Lua.

    Seems Corona only supports the ARMv7 processor. I was able to install and run successfully using an emulated ARMv7 device.

    Cute take on the theme. I loved the feeling of weight as you drew on several more planets. I was missing a feeling of momentum from the lack of a background, but perhaps this was intentional.

    I've ported the Corona code to LOVE and added links to .love and .exe files. I kept the port as faithful to the original as I could manage, so they should be more or less equivalent.

    Usually this sort of game feels very buggy, but the physics were super solid/fluid. Nice!

    LOL That's not Pluto, that's Marge on a bad hairday! I went ridiculous lengths trying to mae sure I only added planets to the top of my beehive do. "Marge" went into what I can only describe as a conniption after I picked up seven or eight larger planets. Very fun toy!

    Without a reference point I found it difficult to know what I was doing until I found more planets, so I got a reference point. Maybe adding a stars background would make the movement more obvious.

    Loved it!!! Reminded me a little of Osmos any one who like that should play this.

    Played the windows port, ran very well.

    Add some music to it (nice background stuff maybe orchestral or new age...), maybe some planet textures and I reckon you could make some money out of that.

    Really cool idea. Game ran perfectly and physics felt really good. That is until I got too big, then it all lagged into oblivion and then my "assembly" just started spinning out of control. It was really fun to play around with tho. Nice work!

    As others have said - the physics were brilliant. It needed something to work against however, something to rip your collection apart. Also, after a while I lost all the planets and couldn't find any more =(.

    I appreciate the feedback! This was my first time participating; I ended up biting off more than I could chew, but it's been a fun experience.

    @MadGnomeGamer, Jiddo: In porting to LOVE, I had to use a more permissive test for attachment (I couldn't get the original method to work), which seems to make large assemblies much less stable.

    @Lawrence Esswood: The planets are supposed to spawn more or less continuously just off-screen, but I have noticed it gets difficult to find any as you get larger.

    @Ovno: Your suggestion of adding music immediately brought The Planets to mind, then I remembered Pluto isn't in The Planets. Holst!

    Played the PC version for a while until the physics started getting really buggy. Not to bad though.

    Very cool! I love this game! The only thing it needs is so kind of challenge aspect, maybe asteroids can hit you and knock off planets?

    Strangely addictive, and the simple sound effects worked really well. Having a scrolling starfield in the backround, and maybe some simple shading on the circles are the only things I'd add.

    Tested the love-version.

    The mechanic works well enough and I like the sound effect design. But there does not seem to be much of an objective.

    Maybe if you develop it, Pluto's goal should be to travel to Earth and knock it into the sun!

    This is fantastic! I love the concept! Perhaps a timer and or score mechanism would give the game a purpose?

    Also, it really starts lagging up when there are too many objects.

    Reminds me of Osmos, but without a goal. Still, the physics seem nicely done, with some more layers of gameplay it would get pretty fun i supose.

    A good start for a game -- the touch controls were nearly perfect on my tablet and the gameplay has the sort of charm that katamari has. Add some UI stuff to let the player know how close they are to consuming the solar system and maybe a timer and you've got yourself something you could put out on the Android Market :)

    Played Android version on Acer A200... after about an hour, the assemblage tried to collapse into a singular body... whether intended or not, it makes a cool end-condition

    The physics of this game feel really nice, and the palette and sounds felt pretty soothing to me. An arrow or an indicator in the direction of the remaining planets would have been helpful as I got bigger; there was a little bit of Arkanoid syndrome, where I spent a lot of time chasing down one or two planets. I loved watching the huge mass swing around and scoop things up, though.

    This is loads of fun! However, after about 7 minutes everything seemed to go haywire and the framerate dropped to unplayable levels.
