The Tiny Green World - Eamon - 48 Hour Compo Entry
The Tiny Green World is a game based around the theme TinyWorld. In it people are wrecking the tiny world you grew up in cutting trees, drilling into the earth and building factories that belch greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Things have gone too far, posters alone used to help but now you must use another tool, the brainwashing ray. You must brain wash the citizens to get popularity and make them respect the environment. However the military aren't too happy at you brain washing their loyal citizens and they are out to get you! Every time you use the ray they are alerted to your presence and send a plane to sort you out! With the popularity you earn, you can buy upgrades to your brain washer, as well as buying propaganda items (fliers, blimps, billboards) until eventually everyone is environment-happy you save the world! Left click on the shop items to buy, and left click on the BrainWashingRay(tm) to start brainwashing citizens! The aim of the game is to get your poularity upto 150, if you have any questions or would like to send me your score please do so, my twitter is @EliteWareGames and my email is admin@eliteware.info . LOL "Green is the new Black"! Cool game idea. Needs a speed up button though.
PS made a propoganda game for a jam too; I entered it in Game Maker Jam #5 and it's called Facade.
I just couldn't play this I'm afraid. I never had enough money to use the ray! It did go up but REALLY slowly and I always spent it on something else to see if that did anything anyway. And the short music loop that you can't turn off annoyed as well... The idea is great and it could have been fun, but I'm either doing something wrong or have no patience! Oh, and I had to play the windows version as the Web one just refused to load (and if you press >Space< you get an error).
Sorry to here that Mark, i think there are some problems in chrome and i know 4 people (excluding myself) have completed the game. Try to buy a wide range of things as you get popularity*5 added to your money (plus whatever upgrade of recycle center gives you) :)
I don't think I really "got" this game. I clicked 2 things and then my money never seemed to go above 105 and I couldn't do anything? If it was faster paced it might feel more interactive at least.
The visuals were fitting, and so was the music. Overall, the gameplay let it down a bit for me personally, but a decent entry nevertheless!
Strangely it was missing the bottom when loaded in Opera, but worked well in Chrome for me. A little slow getting started, but just buy the cheaper things and the money will grow quickly (note your money is only topped up once per day), and you will soon be brainwashing those citizens!
The game fit in with the theme well, but I lost interest very quickly. It seems like there's only one rate to gain money, and that really limits the pace of the game when there's nothing to do but spend money.
Unfortunately the biggest challenge in the game was to wait around long enough to get to buy new things and seemingly there wasn't much strategy involved in the choices. The premise, however, was pretty solid and I think that with adjusting some gameplay mechanics this could turn out to be a pretty fun little game!
For me the biggest problem is the pace, as the other guy said before me it's really slow. Then it was a bit hard to see any strategy or real choices/consequence mechanic. But I'm sure you learned a lot of things with the LD and I'll hope you improve the formula.
Yep, a pace problem. But still, I made it! Take that, and sort your garbage now! http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9381/thetinygreenworldaludum.png
