    Tiny Card World - FrankTheTank - 48 Hour Compo Entry

    =========== IMPORTANT ===========

    I've added a better description for everybody who finds it difficult to understand how the battle works.

    The goal of the game is to master every battle on the (rather tiny) world!
    (Because we all wanna be the very best, right?)

    =========== CONTROLLS ===========

    On every screen:
    * Escape: Go back

    On the map screen:
    * Click: Go to a Town/Battle

    On the battle screen:
    * Click on card: Select it
    * Click on middle energy bar: Add energy to your attack (at least 1)
    * Click on Fight: Start the battle

    =========== BATTLE EXPLAINED ===========

    After you have chosen a card and how much energy you add to your attack, the battle works like this:

    1. Calculate the power of the attack (Value of the card times the energy spent)
    2. Apply special cases (see below)
    3. The stronger attack wins and the difference will be subtracted from the loser's health.

    =========== SPECIAL CASES ===========

    1. If the two elements are the same, no modification of the attack value happens here.
    2. If one of the attack is colored, its attack value is multiplied by 2.
    3. If you fight against a weak element, the attack power of the weak element is added to yours. (you "absorb" the attack) This also means that the enemy's attack power is zeroed out.

    =========== BATTLE EXAMPLES ===========

    3 Energy, 2 Fire vs. 1 Energy, 1 Fire

    Steps (see above):
    1. 6 Power vs. 1 Power
    2. No modification
    3. 5 Damage to the second player

    5 Energy, 1 Colorless vs. 3 Energy, 1 Water

    Steps (see above):
    1. 5 Power vs. 3 Power
    2. Second Player's Power times 2 (Water vs. Colorless)
    3. 1 Damage to the first player

    1 Energy, 1 Fire vs. 5 Energy, 3 Water

    Steps (see above):
    1. 1 Power vs. 15 Power
    2. Second Player's power added to first player's power (Fire vs Water)
    3. 16 Damage to the second player

    Struggled to get through the battle system, difficult to understand how some of the menus worked. Good layout for the battle system, but initially hard to understand.

    Thanks for you feedback! I am sorry that the battle system is that confusion, I added a better description and a few examples how the battle works.

    The battle system was easy to understand for me. At first I wondered how can you create a balanced card game in 48 hours.

    Hrm...clicking only works about 20% of the time in quick play, and clicking doesn't do ANYTHING on the world map.

    Cool concept, I love that you've made a card game; but it's sorta confusing. I think some more pointers on the UI would help.

    @JustinMullin: I am sorry that it's not working for you, I think this happens when game window is too big for your resolution. A possible workaround is to click a bit lower where the actual icon / card is. Again, sorry about that.

    @RHY3756547: Thanks for your feedback. You are totally right! I should have spent more time on explaining the game ingame in hindsight.

    Fun game, the merchants never seemed to sell anything to me, but once I got down the combat it was fun.

    Not really a card guy, and it took me a while to figure it out, but it was really fun once I got into it. Good work!

    ... I just realised I played this for 3 hours straight... I think it was a complete success! The only gripe I have is minor, and it involves the slow movement on the world map. But everything else is fantastic! Suprisingly well thought out and balanced. However once you realise what element decks are more common for what town, its easy to modify your deck and abuse the poor NPCs who dont know any better.

    Also, I seem to also win a card even if I lose a match.

    @RadthorDax Haha I am really glad to hear that :) That you get a card when you lose is a bug, but let's just call it a feature! :P

    This is actually a REALLY good game. Wow, I really enjoyed this. I would love to see something like this remade into a full game. You should really look into that :)
    Thanks for this!

    The energy mechanic adds a lot of strategy to the overall choices made in combat, and the background music is suprisingly catchy. I really wish I could drag cards around to build decks and buy/sell though.

    not bad, a little tricky to understand at first, but a nice effort nonetheless. always cool to see a CCG game

    Interesting ruleset, although I agree with everyone else that it could have been introduced better. Graphics were simple for the cards but did their job. I liked the combination with a world map, too. Theme didn't tie in very well, I think, although it does work literally.

    Pretty cool to see a card game being submitted! I liked the game itself, mainly because it's pretty simple and yet allows for a great deal of strategy. Good job :)

    No one else seems to have the problem, but oddly I couldn't run this on Windows XP. It just crashed at the first hurdle, giving an error report dialog.

    Relation to the theme?

    FrankTheTank says ...
    May 6, 2012 @ 11:44pm

    @BrothersT: Sorry, I don't know exactly why it crashed at your machine.
    Johnicholas: Well, the mini map should represent a tiny world. Of course there are games out there, which have more relation to the theme than mine ;)

    Some more explenation of the whole system would be nice. Didn't understand I had to click 'fight' to play but other then that the layout and controls were very intuitive.

    May 9, 2012 @ 8:54pm

    I won XD. By the end I just played a x5 card with 10 energy and won on the first move! Just a quick question (not going to read the source), does the AI pick a card at random? If so I'm really unlucky.

    FrankTheTank says ...
    May 10, 2012 @ 1:50pm

    Yes the AI picks the next cards randomly, could be smarter but hey, it works :P
