Spaceways - roundcrisis - Jam Entry

Spaceways our first Ludum Dare entry :).

Protect your tiny world from the tyranny of bureaucracy in this space-based protect em' up. All the larger worlds want to build super spaceways through your little planet. Stop them using any means necessary.

    How to play

Use the arrow keys to move your ship around the universe. Press space bar when in range of asteroids to anchor them to your ship. Bring them back to your planet and press space again to release them in orbit. Asteroids increase your resources, which increase your military might.

Be alert for the corrupt larger worlds trying to build roads through your tiny world. Follow the dotted lines back to their worlds and set up trade agreements to stop the roads, or attack with the full force of your tiny worlds military might.

You can also drag space hippies from your planets orbit using the space key and place them within range of planets building spaceways to delay the building of a road while you build up your trade or military numbers.

Update : We have an installer but it doesn't seem to work for everyone, we tried a bunch of things and it works here, not sure what else to do.

Updated the installer, the problem was that one of the projects was not using Reach profile.

caribou thanks a mill. It seems to be a locale problem, we've built a VM with french locale and we are testing now.
For anyone wondering many friends of ours with "virgin" machines with en-ie locale have tried the new install and it works for them.

@edg3 + @CitrusPuchSamurai if you feel like it would you mind going to your event viewer for when you ran the game and get the error from there if there was a screeshot with it it would help too. Cheers (we still cant repro @caribou )

It worked for me. It's pretty neat; the graphics and music are really well done. I like the mechanic of delaying/negotiating with/attacking the larger planets.

It could probably do with some kind of tutorial/in-game explanation though. At first I thought the goal was to block the roads by dropping the hippies/asteroids in their way.

I liked this entry. Graphics are really cool! (Wish i could do so, *sigh*), but this game really needs at least short in-game explanation. Anyway, Great Job!

Thanks to everyone who's commented so far. We'd love to make a Mac version, and we're starting to use MonoGame here, so maybe sometime in the near future...;)

Neat idea, and very polished. The difficulty might spike a bit too much later on...not sure how you're supposed to deal with multiple lanes at once. Pretty fun nonetheless.

Really polished nice game. Might need a tutorial but it's awesome otherwise. One of the best LD's for sure.

Nice entry. Controls are solid. I particularly like the home planet indication line. No replay button but the grapple mechanic makes up for it :D

Random aside: Wow That is a lot of planet names in the PlanetNames.txt. :O

Definitely dig the planets, the music and where I think you guys were going with this. I had a bit of trouble dealing the the Space Highway, but it was fun to explore!

I really loved the concept and gameplay, but I keep getting a game over every minute in. It's really hard to pinpoint the location of the other planets that are building the spaceways. They gang up on Earth pretty quickly.
