NANO M.D. - anulith - 48 Hour Compo Entry
Windows | OS/X | Linux | Source
You control a nano machine designed to destroy ailments from within. Go inside a body to fight amoebas, bacteria, worms, and viruses.
Released under GPL. 64-bit linux, Windows 64-bit & 32-bit, and MAC downloads are available. I'll try to make some 32-bit binaries for linux if there is a need, otherwise you can download love2d from http://www.love2d.org and then download nanomd.love from the source repository to run on 32-bit systems.
Known Bugs:
1) Collision detection for bacteria (blue cylinder shape) is messed up. You can still destroy them but sometimes shots will pass through. Just shoot around their general area and you'll hit it.
2) Worms don't move exactly as I had intended but it'll work.
===PRO TIP===
Once you play the way it is meant to be played :), you can hold down '=' key and increase rate of fire. Some debug mechanisms I forgot to take out. Holding down '-' will decrease rate of fire.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that it feels lacking without any sound. I wish I had the time to get some sound in there before the end of the competition. I originally had a more flesh and blood toned background but it became too disruptive to the foreground. The black and blue cell background doesn't make a lot of sense logically but I couldn't come up with a better background that wouldn't be too distracting to the player.
This is a rather nicely done shoot-em-up!
The fact that I always increase rate of fire probably doesn't help much :)
Ok, sorry. Actually read your initial post, downloaded Love2D and then played it. Nice work!!
Very entertaining, and I love that you have upgrades (especially turn speed because at first I was like, well this is gonna cost you some points, but then I saw upgrades and was like: 8D )
Definitely fun! Invulnerability at beginning was a good insight as well, although I still got WRECKED when the first red dudes came out.
Keep up the good work!
Nice little shoot-em up with good controls. Gets really hard once the worm like bacterias show up.
Not bad, I like that you added an upgrade system. The hero sprite was a little weird, I couldn't really tell what he was supposed to be although I love the name "Nano M.D.". Too bad there was no audio, a game like this would be perfect for sfxr! Also, the color palette was a bit jarring, but maybe that is what life is like for a nano-doctor.
A solid game but audio would have made it a lot better. The upgrade system was a nice touch.

The lack of sounds made this game very... empty. While the bot you control is inside a body, the background is dark-blue. Plus for the powerups, but the game is relatively easy and I found myself staying still for the most of the time just spraying the nearest baddies and then sniping the rest.
The graphics and theme are the strongest points in this game. It just otherwise feels very empty.
