Protect Da World - Sankacoffee51 - Jam Entry
Made in Java with LWJGL, with Gimp and Audacity for ressources.
My roommate did all the graphics and the ressource files, and I did all the coding.
To play, simply unzip and double click on start.bat
You can change resolution from 1920x1080 to 1024x768 in the config.xml file if your screen is big or small (default 1920x1080)
Sorry for the Mac or Linux guys, the .bat is only for windows, try launching the game from the terminal with this: "java -Djava.library.path=lib -jar Protect_The_Tiny_World.jar"
I have only tested on Mac but it should world for linux too.

I get an error message: OpenAL64.dll is either not desigend to run with windows or contains errors. Clicking ok shows the menu screen, but from there on, all I get are crashes, no matter which keys I press.
It doesn't seem to get past the title screen for me :( . Windows xp here
The Zip file is corrupted for the linux download, it's only 24k and can't be decompressed
For the error message, i got all the 64 bit libraries to run the game, I didn't think a lot about this, so it seems that windows xp doesn't like 64 bit libs sorry guys
the zip file is the same than the other ones, the libs for linux are bundled.
The attack speed is a debug speed I forgot in the code, i will correct this at once. thanks for returns
I press N and nothing happens, it just closes. I'm on Windows 7 x64
Can you try to launch it from a command line and send me the error message please?
Windows XP here and it works fine ... I love the hurt in my eyes :-P no, really, I find the graphics very funky and the idea is also cool - capture the flag, sorry, earth against zombies.
Found the problem guys, i will try to fix it this evening, my lifebar spritesheet must be too big for some GC 9696px x 108.
Thanks for feedback
Okay, problem fixed, I just tested on a netbook on xp and it started fine. Good play
***I'm posting this on all non-browser games I bring up in an attempt to encourage folks to make browser games next time around. Do not take it personally.***
When hundreds of people make non-browser games, that means that, to play all of the entries, I would need to download hundreds of games to my computer. I typically use OS X, so Windows-only entries are particularly inconvenient.
Please consider making a browser game next time.
Yup, I know, it annoyed me too, but I couldn't manage to make it work in a browser in time for this session
Game runs perfectly fine for me on Linux. First time I tried I managed to walk into a wall and get stuck. Took me a little while to figure out how it was meant to be played, but once I figured it out it kept me busy trying to defend the world from all the evil world-snatchers.
Nice idea. Could have used a more complex map tho, and I'd rather play a game like this in a small window.
The maps can be changed from the xml ressource files and world1.dat for the format, but I didn't have time to implement proper pathfinding, so different maps may be slightly buggy
I wasn't able to play your game properly. I tried re-sizing the screen, but then it would try to go into full-screen mode, not be able to do it, end up in windowed mode. When I got a size it sorta liked, then the tiles were very confused. It was very trippy.
Good luck!
I just tried different resolutions, and 800x600, 1024x768 and 1920x1080 works fine, some other proportions get strange i admit
AH MY EYES IT BURNS! No, but really i like the game and i was able to play atleast
You need to include an .sh file for Mac and Linux, not a .bat file. The content of the file can be the same, but you need to chmod +x it. Anyway, the game worked fine on OSX when I started it from the command line myself. I thought the gameplay was decent but not amazing. The main issue was that it was very unclear when my attacks would hit or miss, and eventually I just kept killing things with no challenge until my attack randomly didn't hit and I died.
Not bad, though I think the graphics should have been a lot simpler or cleaner, I got a headache from playing this.
It would also benefit from some form of minimap, or enemy indicator. The theme also felt hastily thrown in.
I'd recommend defaulting to the lower resolution, because by the time that I found start.bat (you may want to move files around, too), I forgot that it was configurable.
I've also seen a few different bugs, like the screen transition placing the character in the water, or zombies not spawning at all (or in the water). Feels like it has something to do with the screen resolution, but I don't know. Anyway, keep at it! It's a decent concept.
They got stuck on each other when trying to take away the world. It was hilarious.
Quite a many glitches, like stuck on the wall, rendering artifacts, fps drops below 10 and so on.
Running on Linux. Btw. 'sh start.bat' gets you going :)
It was too big for my screen, I could only see the left half of the game. Loved the characters, it made me want to run around with a cardboard sword and helmet.

The ground textures hurt my eyes, the purple ones in particular.
Gameplay was okay though even with the slightly clunky controls, especially attacking was annoying in that the animation seemed way too slow.
