Ludum Dare 23

Let's Go Moon - Transmit - Jam Entry
Let's Go Moon is an arcade style game, where you guide the moon around a randomly spawning galaxy of little planets, meteors, asteroids and alien space ships. Smash into objects smaller than you to grow in size, and grow large enough to take down the Earth itself.
The further away you go from the Earth the larger the planets get, there are also "occupied" planets which will shoot you down, knocking chunks of your mass off.
This is our first ever game for Ludum Dare, entered into the Jam purely because my friend and I wanted to do our first one in a team.
Controls are simply the arrow keys. Q and W zoom the camera in and out, but it should do that automatically based on your size anyway. Flixel has built in sound controls, so 0 to mute (and unmute).
Made in AS3 using a slightly modified Flixel. Photoshop for the art work, though as you may guess none of us were artists.Sound Effects made in as3sfxr. And Music was free to use music by BunnyMajs of Newgrounds.
Hope you all enjoy!

it ran a bit slow on my computer but that's just my wooden pc. cool game, would have liked a bit more variance in the objects you collide into but it was fun all the same
Haha! Loved the ending! I even thought that a new level was about to start!
Fun to play but not very challenging. Would love to actually take on the sun. :)
I thought it was a nice, funny little game. A couple of things I noted: For some reason the planets' textures go over the in game text, and the moon's mass maxes out at 711? I really like the idea, but I think it could have been more challenging. You can essentially beat it by traveling in a straight line, the missiles barely hurt you.
Well, THAT was fun! :) Reminds me of Osmos, with a big load of awesome on top of it.
Well done!
Thanks all for the positive comments so far! The Moon maxes out once you go over 700, because if it got any bigger we started having issues with the zooming out camera, and the moon itself would take up too much of the screen to see anything else.
I have done it! i destroyed the world! though it took pritty long :s But it was worth it :)
It's a sadistic, happy feeling when you finally take earth down. :) Nice ending too. :)
I really liked it! The only thing I think you could improve on would be adding a few more levels. I did, however, like the ending :P
A fun little game, nicely done! Too easy though, I want a hard mode with more missiles to dodge!
Katamari... on space? xD
Well, that's kinda how I saw the game... xD
Really liked it, though it would be better if there wasn't a max size and if you went on to take over the sun! :P
The music really made this one. This made me feel a little guilty.
For some reason, a few seconds after hitting my first asteroid, the sound turned off in the game. Refreshing the SWF (even clearing the cache) did not bring it back. :(
Despite the deathly silence, I did enjoy the game! It was great fun smashing through planets.
Thats amazingly odd. Flixel has a built in mute function when you push 0 I believe, which we didnt disable, may have hit that! But shouldnt have stayed between refreshes.
Fun game, it's a shame its so tiny. You should have done more levels :(
Also, i liked the music.
Good fun! I was somewhat confused by why my moon appeared to be shrinking while hitting some objects-- were those missiles being shot by the planets or somesuch?
Yeah! I said up in the description that there are occupied planets which shoot missiles at you, which knocks chunks of your mass off.
I loved this! It's such a funny concept - I'd love to see where you can take it with more time!
Shame it capped at 703 mass, I wanted to break the game and have the moon bigger than the game window. :D
Interesting story. The bgm and sfx are good. My advice, since it's space why don't make zero gravity so the moon keep moving and player have less key press.
Fun game! Simple mechanic, but still satisfying just to destroy things. Really liked the music!
HAHa, very nice game! I like how the planets and the ufos shoot you but you get no harm :D GO MOON! Good job :)
It was fun, but a simple feeding frenzy clone with no real difficulty.
I loved the music! And the game was a awesome spinoff of Katamari! :D
I forgave the slowness and actually really liked this game, good stuff! :)
very fun to play with! the only drawback was the particle system, that the thrusters, the debris AND the bullets were all red and hard to distinguish. good job tho!
Great job! It ran quite slow on my machine, although it was still playable. It also gets quite hard to see things once you get large, but that adds to the challenge I guess. Good music, and the opening / closing cutscenes were nicely done.
I loved it. There's a very strong cool factor for this one.
Also, the music was awesome.
This was fun! It could have been a little longer, but this is good for a competition. Let me at the sun!

I don't see a link to the game. Where is it? I wanna fly a moon!
