Ludum Dare 23
April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
Battle of the Worlds - bigbass1997 - 48 Hour Compo Entry
This was a really fun game to make. Those that want to can use the src code and the assets in any way that you want. Ingame, use the arrow keys to move your tiny world and use the mouse to click the few things that you can including to buy stuff in the market and to eat food to regain health.
P.S. The src folder along with all the assets are found in the jar file. Just open it up with a zipping program like WinRar. I also did a journal which is also found in the jar.
Have Fun!

there was something wrong with the font after I exported it. Still trying to figure it out.
It doesn't load on OSX:
java.io.IOException: Can't read fonts/visitor.ttf

It's nice seeing games made in Java. It most probably will run on Linux and other OSs with very few adjustments.
I'm sorry, I can't play your game because I don't have Windows (OSX).
Damn you. You tapped into my need to gain arbitrary experience and level up. I ended up fighting that lifeless red planet a dozen times before I quit.
Not sure why a world is roaming around a grass field eating fruit and mushrooms. It seemed like the theme was forced. It was hard to tell where I was trying to go, too.
All-in-all, a good effort. I'm glad you had fun and hope it was a good learning experience. Java skills will go a long way :).
I move real slooow, haha. But it's a fun idea, I would like to see how it plays with a few improvements. Keep up the good work!
thanks for all the comments. The movement speed was poorly designed. The faster your computer ran the program the faster u would move. This game I will be continuing later this month. I have to finish a few other things before I can work on it.
Im not sure what was supposed to happen! I ended up on sort of brown background, I could click a white rectangle and sound text whizzed past. And I could move around in four directions. Nothing else (I did try for a min or so?).
I also get the java.io.IOException: Can't read fonts/visitor.ttf exception in Linux, but the game sometimes seems to work.
The input doesn't work very well, it suffers from the keyboard repeat delay when you hold down a key and movement is really slow.
Also everything seems so random that I have no idea whats going on. Transitions between screens are not obvious. The drawn passageways the the green screen don't seem to correlate to anything, and there is no clue how to exit the shop.
Some instructions would have helped.
The movement was slow and it had very sticky controls, it was also quite hard to understand as it just throws you into the game without any kind of tutorial.
well its not very easy to get it all done within 48 hours! try learning about CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. The game will be continued now by me. Soon I will have an download link on my website, http://bigbass1997.info.tm/ if you are unable to connect to the site try back later.

The player moves quite slow which can be frustrating. I also had no idea what was happening at first with the random encounters haha. Also the scrolling text is too small and fast.
