sQared - FredericRP - Jam Entry

You start in a room that you know nothing about.
Why are you here, who brought you here, are you alone, those are the questions that come into your mind. And then, you begin your quest. It's simple as opening a door: you enter a maze with some strange lights on the walls, their meaning are not familiar at all. During your journey, you will encounter some people, and yet you will still be alone.. at the end.

Who will you be at the end ? Who will you chose to leave and live ?
That's the question you will have to answer to be able to complete the game.

Some bugs are fixed, unfortunately, I had to change the default font with another one to be able to fix the first critical issue (white text on white background). I picked and installed the new font within 5minutes so this critical bug could be fixed without interfering much with the "72hours" jam rule (and I took a screenshot to replace the one where we see the old font)

Here's the fixes made tonight, version 1.1 :
    Critical
    - Fix the dialog font that was white (on white background) : default Arial could not be used so SIDE EFFECT : font now used is Nakadai + black font material (text color won't stay black after saving project, defect to submit to Unity3D)
    - Fix the button action that made the character Willy disappear

    Game playability
    - Fix the exit trigger that could be triggered infinitely by the player and never end the game
    - Decrease the mouse sensitivity (15/10 -> 4/3)
    - Fix the Actions Gui : won't orient itself toward the user, located in front of the collider (so it doesn't appear inside object in some case)
    - Fix the default "name" of who you are : "me" instead of "grandma"

Please note that the webplayer have issues on Mac : if you're on a mac, use the OS/X standalone version, thanks !

Also, in this preview version, press Cmd-Q to exit on a mac (the Escape key issue will be fixed tomorrow), Alt-F4 on windows. Good night for those in the same timezone :)

Really great mood :) Good job with this one! Anyway, when I open the door at the top of the large slope, it gets me back in a previous room. Bug or is it normal?

I like the code-breaking-minigame, it's quite intuitive. The 3d-interface is interesting aswell, but the lookAt(player) doesn't work quite (it looks at my chest, not the head). Perhaps it isn't even necessary.

    >deepnight: you may have played before the last version was uploaded, I'll look into it
    >Mathias yeah, I had a lot of trouble to make it right, I'll do some more test when I get home

Arg, I spotted two bugs, but one of them is very annoying and is present in all versions, don't know why since it was working on my computer : the text is written in white on a white background for the dialogs ! As a workaround until I fix this when I get home (in 2 days) is to walk near a wall when you dialog with another character : you can see the text "through the wall".
Sorry for the inconvenience, I'll fix that asap.

I'm on a Mac and the controls are SUPER SUPER sensitive. The slightest twitch sends the mouse flying across the screen to the point of unplayability. Thought I'd let you know.

I didn't noticed it but you're surely right: I'm on a mac too, but as I created it I was surely too used to it !
I'll do some test to improve the sensitivity (but: back in 2 days @home :( ).

I would say I loved it, but the contols made it very frustrating. Far, far too sensitive. I think the graphics and sound were superb and made for a very atmospheric game, but the controls did spoil it somewhat. I'm sure it won't be difficult to fix it, and when you do, the game will be a strong contender, I'm sure.

Great job! I wasn't able to complete it though, because I just kept getting lost.

The biggest problem I had is with the sensitivity of the mouse movement. And yeah, I'm on Mac.

There's also a number of bugs/glitches, such as lights from another room cutting through the wall, or falling through the floor when hitting that moving red wall, but they're not major.

I'm uploading the fixed version (details on the description above)

I was surprised how angry I got at not figuring out the keypad. Found the green flashlight and the person up the ramp, that's pretty much where I gave up.

Good work on introducing the player to the controls, and nice atmosphere. Also I'm falling in love with the lo-fi texturing that some of these Unity games are showing off this compo. Really slick.

That means the keypad served its purpose ;)
Thank you very much for the feedback !

Found the flashlight, the old lady and the man in the wheelchair and than gave up. The mood was excellent, but I kept getting lost... I am not sure about the keypad, but when I clicked the position where the "open door" icon should be I was allowed to pass anyway. Bug or imagination of mine?

    This was pretty ambitious!

    > summaky : Thanks for your comment ! I wanted to make path with lights but did not have time to finish it, so it's kind of hard to find your way. I think you're right for the bug, but it's not in all versions, I'll take a look.
    > Make A Game : yep, ambitious, but why don't be a little ambitious at least ?

Great overall, but desperately needs a minimap. I couldn't complete the game because eventually I just wasn't sure where I was. Also the body swapping was very cool but I never saw any payoff from doing it, nor did talking to various characters as other characters do anything, etc. So all that aside and it was a confusing maze that seemed like it was almost awesome.

I realize that it's hard not to be lost, I wanted to have lights to guide the player but did not have enough to implement all of them. You can see the full playthrough here : http://youtu.be/xnGiIbyAOVw

By the way: you can push the green button to "save" Willy only if you are the old woman (she can push with her stick)
