Ludum Dare 22
December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
You Are Alone - kanaka - 48 Hour Compo Entry
Windows | Web | Web v0.2 | Source
A small entry completely different to what I had planned. Sadly I tried to use SpriteManager in a 3D world, and my lack of experience with this library made me waste a lot of time, so here is the incomplete final result, at least for the community challenge :D
I will definitely participate in the next LudumDare!
Edit: Web version added
Edit2: Web version 0.2 with mouse sensitivity controls was added
Edit3: Web version 0.2 updated with ZQSD movement

As a base engine - this isn't bad. Next time you will be more successful. Maybe next time practice in the pre-competition week.
Thanks for the comments guys! The game is awfully incomplete, I wanted to do many things but tecnical aspects and ignorance of some libraries made eated all my time, and at the end there was just no time for the rest of the game :(
I can not thank enough your kind words, I will practice, enter the pre-competition and get better for the next event in 4 months! Thanks guys!
(also I just quickly added a new version where you can adjust the mouse sentivity with Keypad - and +. Thanks for the observation kalle_h!)
Considering it's in unity it's very weak... better luck next time
Not bad considering you struggled against technical issues. Oh, one thing: next time try to support AZERTY, it's simply using W *and* Z for forward and A *and* Q for left: http://www.mcfunkypants.com/molehill/controls.png.
Oh thanks a lot for the heads-up lorancou! Next time I will implement it from the beginning, or a controls setup screen if there is time. I updated the Web v0.2 link with those controls. Thanks again!
I was hesitating about submitting the game at the LD last minute, but at the end I took the decision to send it, to be a reminder of how much I have to learn. All comments are very welcome, they keep me studying and developing, so I really appreciate it guys!
Well, not much to say, really. It is very incomplete and not a game. Next time know your tools better (and do the warm up!) and you'll fare much better.
Good start. (Only a start though)
On firefox the mouse wasn't enough sensitive according to me.
good attempt man.. i actually like the simple shadedness of it all :)
simonlater: By "good engine" you mean "Unity's Engine."
Something better to do to get the effect you were trying to go for would be to:
1. Change the ambient light closer to black
2. Have a light source on the character, such as a flashlight (or preferably a lamp)
3. Keep the black fog effect
4. Add textures to the walls
5. (Probably the most important) LOCK the cursor instead of HIDING the cursor. The game is really difficult to play when your mouse moves OFF the screen.

If you don't know how to do something, look it up, and practice often.

You were going in a great direction with this.
Next LD will be better.
