Space Rescue Mission - olav_st - 48 Hour Compo Entry

My first LD game, a game about space, but not about being alone in space. Its about rescuing astronauts that were left alone on distant planets.

Controls:
WASD or Arrow keys - Control ship
Mouse - controll turret
Mouse Button - Shoot
Space - Land (when possible)

Note: The 64-bit linux version is not tested, if it dosen't work, you can try the 32-bit one. It should work even if you're system is 64-bit

I rescued 3 astronauts! :D Good game but orientation in space is a bit hard because you dont know how fast you are going until you hit Pluto :D. Maybye if the stars in background were not static you can always see how fast you are going.

Great idea with landing :D

Looks like it would have been a good game, but instakill planet bugs and crazy physics make it incredibly frustrating to play. Making some form of seeing how fast you were going would be good - nonstatic stars?

I have uploaded a new version with some bug fixes, I think the insta-death bug is fixed now. I also fixed the enemy spawning code. The source link has also been updated.

I wasn't able to enjoy this game. I felt completely out of control; when you hit a planet, your ship shot into the other direction without any loss of momentum, making it feel more like pinball.

You are missing the libjpeg.so.62 library in the 64-bit GNU/Linux package.

Fixed, added the library to the 32-bit version too

Very nice! It was hard, but still felt fun while playing it. I like that you managed to put a mini-game inside your LD entry.

I would probably scrap the aliens part, they aren't really a factor in the game - the hardest part is navigating the planets.

Or you could tweak your world generator to avoid creating those maze of planets - it is a bit strange to see many huge planets hugging each other like that. :-)

Great game anyway!

I like it. Needs some kind of vector notification to show which way your going. Maybe star blur or something
Had fun saved two people.
