Leave Me Alone. Never Leave Me Alone. - whilefun - 48 Hour Compo Entry

This game looks at the concept of a person's preference for being alone (introversion), or never being alone (extroversion). I know the science and exact nature of these things is not captured in the game, but the game is meant to be fun/funny too. Check out the instructions in the game menu for the skinny on controls and goals.

More info on this here: http://whilefun.com/games.php#LD22

Controls are X (select in menu), and C, and arrows. Read the instructions for more info :)

More details, if you want them: You select your "alone" preference then play through day (office) and night (city/street) cycles. You must carefully balance your anxiety and energy levels, while striving to be understood by those around you. The more anxious you are and the less energy you have, the more likely you will be misunderstood. At the end of the day (you're understoood, or too anxious), you get to recharge in the way you like. The goal of the night cycle is to lower your anxiety and raise your energy for the next day. Failure to do this means you won't be understood, and ultimately your self worth and lonliness will increase. If your self worth goes too low, you will die. Boy did I make that sound boring. HAH :)

It's interesting. Not so much a game as a life simulator or experiment or something. The dynamics are very difficult to understand. Maybe there is scope for some more visual queues? Also, I think the extrovert NPCs should not just flock after you, but towards all ppl in the vicinity. I think I counted like 25 NPC following me at some point.

It easily dragged out quite a bit when the whole game could be shortened down to be made more frantic. Walking around for several minutes can end up dreadful.

Yes, definitely agree. I also want the avatar to move around a lot faster, and populate the level with more stuff. Time ran out though. Thanks for your feedback, eld! :)

One of the best theme interpretations I've seen thus far. Good work with the audio, too. With some solid visuals and some obvious balancing/fun tweaks... this could be REALLY good. Nice job!

The concept was the most interesting part but was still difficult to understand. Needs a little polish but worth working on.

the base idea is interesting but it was not very fun to play. Maybe adding some randomness, like events or random behaviour for NPC would help. I also has some crash when playing I was sended back to instruction -> gameover screen -> bug screen : ERROR in
    action number 1
    of Step Event
    for object object_game_manager:

Error in code at line 72:
    if( (object_game_manager.avatar_anxiety >= object_avatar.max_anxiety) && (object_game_manager.avatar_self_worth > 0)){
    ^
at position 59: Unknown variable max_anxiety

well, another comment to mention that I like the starting menu, the volume of sfx changing with position and the very fun sounds when talking with other peoples

Wonderful and innovative use of the theme. This should be one of if not the top entry for innovation.

Thanks for your feedback and bug report, Benjamin! :) That was one of the bugs I was trying to squash in the final moments of the compo. I put in a hack for level switching but it overlooked the avatar being there persistently, and was check it's variables without it actually being there (d'oh!).

Kind of a neat take on the theme, but sadly it's not very fun. I like your sounds. I liked coughing to keep people away from me.

@Raptor85 Any specific errors, or does it just crap out?

@defiantburrito Thanks! I think I missed the fun boat a bit for sure. It's a bit serious, and simulation-ey.
