Ludum Dare 22
December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
Forever Alone - The End of Colors - gebirgsbaerbel - 48 Hour Compo Entry
Mac OS/X Lion | Youtube Video | Source
This is my first entry into ludum dare. This time I decided to work with cocos2d as it is relatively simple and fast to have a first success. Unfortunately it my setup only works on Mac OS X - Lion. Next time I might try something more ambitous.
In my game you walk around searching for a companion. However he is avoiding you and you follow him deeper and deeper into the darkness.
To steer: use arrow keys or WASD
Spotlight: move the mouse to actually see something
I used:
Language: Objective-C
IDE: XCode
Library: Cocos2d (http://www.cocos2d-iphone.org/)
Graphics: Gimp
Sound: Clavinova and iPhone for recording
MapEditor: Tiled (http://www.mapeditor.org/)
PS: The first five levels are shaped in the letters of ALONE
This is barely recognizable when wandering the labyrinths :)

Thank you for your comment on the music. At first I did not even intend to create any, but then i decided that there needed to be some to emphasize the sad mood.
As a PC user, I can only rate the graphics. But I like the light effects
I don't have OS X Lion, so I can't rate this game. It looks cool, though.
Congrats on your first dare, gebirgsbaerbel. I looks interesting. A big section of us are PC (including me), so a playthough video or the like really lets you show off your efforts (especially your music/sfx it seems) for an otherwise Mac exclusive entry.
I added a short gameplay video. Hope some of you still have some time to watch it and give me feedback. Thank you :)
It's sad there isn't a windows version, but kudos for the video.
Music is awsome!
So close! I have Snow Leopard. Can you upload a version for older OSes?
Problem is, I used ARC not realizing that it is only available on Lion :(

Using the "spotlight" to reveal parts of the world/maze - which becomes darker and darker as you progress, is a nice idea! Initially i wasn't sure if i was doing the right thing, but as i progressed through the levels it became apparent what the purpose of the game is. Although i didn't saw the ending coming :-P.
As a side note, i *loved* the piano music and the slight "puffs, huffs" and ambient sounds that there were in the recording. It felts as if there was some sort of companion i was with while playing the game. Top marks on that :-)
