Waterfall Rescue - Switchbreak - Competition Entry

This game is about rescuing a bunch of climbers who got stranded trying to climb up a waterfall alone. You need to swing over to them and take them with you to the rescue chopper.

I used FlashPunk as the engine, bfxr for the sounds, Paint.Net and Gimp for the sprites.

Innovation - Definitely one of the most original one-button games I've ever played!

Fun - Not bad, but a bit frustrating at first. Got ahold of it quickly though, and enjoyed what I played!

Graphics - A little ugly, but they do their job.

Audio - Ehh, not sure what to say. A bit annoying, but they work.

Very innovative indeed ! The sound is indeed a bit annoying, but as the game is very short it doesn't matter much.

About the theme, the "take this" is missing.

But otherwise a very cool game, I had fun playing it ! Nice work ! :)

Very fun&innovative game, if you would remove the screen shaking it would be even more fun, it gave me a headache.

Love the originality! The last stage took me quite a lot longer than the others. ;]

Cool concept! And I like the waterfall effect in the background.

This game was actually more fun than I thought it would be. The first level was a bit of a turn off so I was about to give it up, but I didn't and I'm glad I stayed in there. Keep up the good work :)

Wow, that had a sort of QWOP feel to it. Very enjoyable.

    Great work!

Fun little game. Can be quite hard, and the audio was not very likeable, but the gameplay was really good. Very innovative, and the insta-respawn made the difficulty frustration-less :) Well done !

Very clever one button game. Would work well as a mobile game with some polish, DO IT. :)

This is awesome (that is, once figured out what actually to do). The Parallax-effect is also beautiful, but clutters the screen and distracts somewhat fromthe action (giving me a headache)

Man that leap over the helicopter in stage 3... so sick. I liked how quick it was to get back into the game, and the graphics are sparse and excellent.

The two nitpicky things I have with this game are some of the jumps seem unfair, perhaps if you decelerated as you swung up, it would make the timing feel more natural. The other thing that bugged me was that the chain would sometimes get out of sync. That was only a visual thing, since it didn't effect your jump at all.

The blocked style of the player ... block ... and the other ... blocks ... fell together beautifully with the waterfall. I almost wish you'd reduced the falling boulders and the chopper to the same style to give it a complete feel.

In regards to the theme it wasn't as much absent as I'd consider it unspoken. While the mechanics of the game didn't give a powerful incentive to join together with the other climbers (aside from being an actual objective), it definitely could have strengthened the theme's impression. However, I did think it did signify the warning values of going alone, lest you get stuck at an unlikely spot beneath a platform floating in mid-air at a waterfall :P I'm definitely stretching the theme itself, but to me it could be "take this" could be justified in the conversation between the climbers. "Take this rope!", "take this hand", "don't take this plunge into death!!!". Perhaps adding som small dialogue texts when rescuing people could add to that feel.

However we interpret the existence of theme or not I enjoyed the experience. Thank you.

Very enjoyable overall. I agree with most of the other comments here, the thing that gave me a headache was the constant shaking of the screen when the boulders fell though!
Otherwise I thought it was very original and addictive.

Fun! I wish release and grab were separate controls. Also, as another mentioned, the screen shake is a bit nauseating after a while.

I bet you read this before but this game is totally amazing! I am simply speachless. It's that awesome. I love simplicity and I like grapling.. this game has both
So nice to see a game that is fun and easy to learn yet somewhat challenging to truly master.. on another note, I've seen games like this before.. but none of them made quite as well. I love the graphics and music!! This is truly a master piece and to think it was done in 48h amazing! Truly proves that nothing is beyond your reach when you have the right inspiration and determination.

Pretty cool and fun once you get the hang of it, though level 4 was an extreme vertigo simulator.

    Nice :)
Sometimes it feels like luck but it's got the "It's my fault, just one more time" feeling.
    Well done!

It's good! I love grappling. I eventually got pretty good at it, to the point where I could navigate around pretty confidently. Biggest problem for me were the rocks, since I was just too impatient and kept jumping into them. The physics were not really realistic, but worked pretty well (and maybe better that way because otherwise it'd probably be easy to fly like crazy, particularly right after attaching).
