Nice game in general. The collision with the moving spikes could be more forgiving.

I like it. Headspike is not very easy to use.

Cool stuff. But how do you complete level 5?

    Jhelle says ...
    May 2, 2011 @ 1:45pm

For level 5 you can keep bouncing on the spikes. Jump on them headdown and hold jump and you'll bounce.

This needed some explanatory level but not a lot of time for that :).

Awesome game, I got partway through level 5 (but poor kitty!!) Seconding bmfs with the spikes tho, damn they are sensitive XD

Solid little platformer. I rage-quit on the level where you get the wall-climb. I found that mechanic unintuitive and difficult to use. I fully admit to being wimp at that sort of gameplay, though. Good job!

I couldn't tell why I could sometimes kill the red block baddies and other times they would kill me... but I dig the mechanics with all the upgrades!

Very cute game. Though the collision detection was a bit problematic, overall it was fun to play. Not *entirely* sure what was meant by "the hat protects you from spikes", since it didn't, but other than that, good job!

Great platformer & great progression! solid work! Agreed with others though, some collision could be more forgiving.

Good game. Very well polished and put together. One of the most "complete" feeling games I've played.
I like adding the direction you're facing as a gameplay factor to a platformer.
Starting at the beginning of a level after dying is kind of a bummer. I tried to destroy a spike block by jumping up into it after getting the spike on my helmet, but it ended up killing me, and it sucked to be thrown back to the beginning of the level. Wall climbing with the headspike is tricky.
Very clean graphics. Nice sounds. Music is a good addition, if a little repetitive.

    Great work!

I agree with everyone who thinks that the spikes are too sensitive... I think if you enter the spikes' bounding box you die, whereas probably you should only die if you touch the spike's actual pixels. Great feel though.. holding down space and bouncing around is really satisfying. Also I loved the music and sound effects!

Would be nice to have spawn points in the middle of levels for people (like me) who don't want to skip levels but aren't super great.

Awesome variation in level design! Lovely tilesets.
Adding checkpoints would have made it much less frustrating. Very devious platforming here, good work!

Holy crap... a five level game that's fun and has varying mechanics and good sound and good graphics in 48 hours... nice job! Moving spike block collision boxes are a bit... over aggressive shall we say? :p

    May 4, 2011 @ 2:49am

Fun game, I like how all the different items introduced new mechanics. Like others mentioned, controls could be improved but I didn't really ding you on that. I like your level designs too.

Beautiful graphics and moody music, nice!

    Collision.. gnashing teeth.. collision.

Tune that a bit and speed up the respawn and it'll be a lot more accessible.

Aside from the occasionally awkward collisions, the camera seemed to vibrate sometimes...and as far as I could tell it wasn't supposed.
    Solid game though.

I didn't find level 5 that hard, level 4 actually was much harder for me, and I decided to skip it. The over-large collision boxes were just a tad too tough on the blood pressure to make me want to try again. :P Otherwise a fun game, and consistent with the theme. The wall-jumping hat spike was especially clever.

Neat game. Solid entry, albeit a bit unforgiving. You should put some other hint for the kitty stage, if I hadn't read your comment I would've given up there.

Collisions should be pixel perfect and not based on the bounding box. But cool platformer! =]

Solid platformer with an interesting mechanic.
Spikes could be a bit more forgiving
    Good music and graphics.
I noticed that the screen sometimes jitters when standing on the ground which is irritating, a collision bug perhaps.
Level 5's mechanics are not obvious, but the level is really easy when you can just blast through all the moving spikes.

nice game Jhelle! it's a bit frustrating, because dying from spikes is too easy. but i like music and overall theme. good job!

    Good work! Fun little platformer.

The collision with the moving blocks is quite unforgiving, and the hat spike should work when jumping up into them for consistency. Level 5 - the [x] should protect you from [x] without having to hold 'jump', really, as it's pretty tough to figure out what you need to do.

A few checkpoints in levels 4 and 5 would be awesome.

I love this game, it takes me back to the good old days of Nes and I like every second of it.. :) One thing I would change is that the spike hat makes you spike box proof.. I mean if you use the spiked hat and press left or right, any moving spike box that hits is destroyed immidiately.
There is also a tiny bug where you can exit the screen, especially noticeable in lvl six:)

Anyways, to keep a long story short, this game is AWESOME
Graphics, music, it has everything and the lvls are good.

    Well done

I liked the wall climbing with the spike hat, I found it pretty easy to use. Having to hold Down and Z to bounce on the spikes was a bit annoying.

Really well done! My only gripe is that there were certain bottlenecks in levels that took me way too many attempts to get past (around 10+ deaths to finally get by).

Aside from that I absolutely love the graphics (they totally have an old-school megaman feel to them), the sound effects are very consistent with the animations (breaking through some rocks sounds very satisfying), and I like the interesting take on the wall-jump. Overall I really like it, good job!

    Cool! It's quite hard.

Would like a more forgiving colission detection, and it's not trivial to master.

But it's still good. Nice graphics.

Very cool game - well done!

Agree that the wall-climb mechanic took a bit of getting used to but was quite intuitive to use once grasped. Restore points would've been nice, but Q to skip is a good alternative for those times you die from a spike a inch from the exit :P!

I also did a rage-quit on level 4 out of frustration from the collision detection...
But other than that, really awesome game!
Also, a small thing that haven't been mentioned yet (I think), but when I first played the first level and saw the moving red cubes I assumed that there are regular moving platforms, probably because they are shaped like a square...
