Illusion - sinalta - Competition Entry

The aim of the game is to trick the enemy into killing themselves and each other using the Illusion based skills of the character.

The first spell creates a decoy version of yourself. If the enemy sees this decoy it will think it's you and begin firing. The bullets will go straight through, hopefully killing any enemies on the opposite side.

The second illusion tricks the enemy into thinking a pit (the black tiles) is a perfectly walkable tile. It will then either randomly wander into it, or walk across it while trying to chase you. Falling to his doom.

The third illusion is an upgrade to the standard decoy. Any bullet hitting this decoy will bounce back towards the attacker.

Also, at any point you can turn yourself into a rock. If the enemy does not see you do this, it may just walk straight past you, giving you a chance to get out of harms way.

Also. You have a hat. So do the enemy, but yours is better.

Niiice game.
I really love the idea. it's a shame i can beat every level simply by conjuring up the reflect bullets image.
Played through all 3 levels and really enjoyed it though.

I liked the idea, but you really can beat everything with the third illusion.
I could definitely see this working well as a puzzle-type game - maybe the different spells are limited to a certain number of uses per level?

really rad. as the others said, you can beat everything with just bullet reflection, so i exclusively used 1&2. lining up an illusion so that they kill each other is the best thing.
the pit thing feels really random though. they kind of just wander into it whenever, it's kind of hard to induce them to actively follow you
great idea though!

Thanks for the comments guys! =]
I agree with you all about the reflective decoy, it is incredibly over-powered. I was thinking of adding a cool down timer to each illusion. That would stop you being able to spam it and save it for situations when you have no other option.

Liked this one! The "rocks" graphic looks like something ELSE with a hat on it :S (that's what I thought before I read the instructions...).

Cool idea, nice execution. Could have been tweaked a bit more.

Best part - creating a reflector too close to an enemy so they will fire a number of bullets locked inside it, then when it fades out, those bullets are all released at once in a four-way burst that is likely to kill most things nearby. Apart from that, like others have said, just put reflectors near enemies and they will perish rapidly. There's no penalty for doing so. Using the other decoys is much more inconvenient and only worth doing out of curiosity. Reading the description made it sound interesting and a bit too complicated, while playing the game unfortunately reversed this. Maybe spells could be uncovered one by one, or be limited in number of uses, or magic energy could only refill by collecting items (maybe dropped by enemies). Unfortunately though, adding such limitations would probably make the game too difficult and frustrating unless enemy behavior is also modified to make them see further and be less immediately harmful.

It seems like the reflective decoy is overpowered compared to the other abilities, and trying to make the enemies shoot each other by walking past them is too dangerous. I guess that's what the other decoy's for though. The pit graphic wasn't very clearly a pit to me.

Really cute visuals. Like others said, the 3rd illusion was too easy to use. The pit never actually worked for me (I watched enemies walk right over it several times, and they never fell in).
