Islands: Through the Sweep of Stars - Morre - Competition Entry
UPDATE: The php source code - which is very little actual code - is available at the source link below. I recommend against reading it, as the source contains spoilers, but go ahead if you want to know any of the answers. The rest of the source is just HTML and can be viewed through your browser.

I decided I wanted to make a simple web game for this contest. Instead, I tried to focus on making some content (with varying success). I didn't have too much time during the weekend, but I'm relatively happy with this anyhow. It was a fun game to make.
I do hope it's at least somewhat enjoyable. If it's too tricky, you can get hints by viewing each page's source. I'd enjoy seeing somebody complete the game, as the end screen is the part of the game I'm happiest with. :)

Can't get past the Fear. Nice art!

Woo! This is very cool. I couldn't get past the skull place (even though I figured out how to view the hints) but I love the style.

Very cool idea. Reminds me of the try2hack kinda games :)
Some of the riddles seemed impossible, but after a while they all became obvious :)

Interesting idea and beautiful art!

Got stuck on fear. Will have to think about it!

Loved the art style. Gameplay was great (except for when I had to cheat!) and enjoyed the sense of triumph when I finally got the right answer.

This has an interesting feeling to it. It's neat to see you trying something so different. I hope it was a fun experience for you.

That was entertaining, and some of the riddles were really witty. Fear was my favorite, peril took me far, far longer than it should have. Short and sweet, with great pictures. I'm quite fond of the source-comments-as-hints system.

Got stuck on 'fear' as well, great graphics!

That would have been nice, turned into a Pretentious Art Game, with some delicate music and a minimum of interactivity (moving a guy around to get clues?) The drawings have a pretty distinctive style, would have like more!
Most of the questions were far too tricky to be answered without cheating. Perhaps basing them only on clues in the images would have been more interesting.
It has some charm though.

The graphics are very very nice. I especially liked the ending. The "gameplay" though is very simplistic, and the riddles were a bit arbitrary and didn't follow any pattern. I would love to see you do another series of these, or perhaps flesh it out into a graphic adventure.

These are way too hard for me. Nice art!

Haha, this was fun and quite original. Took me a while to get the last one. Duh! :)

Nice!

Somewhat annoyingly, I found most of them too hard without the hint and then too easy with the hint.
Graphics are lovely; I wish there was some ambient music as well to create more atmosphere.

Interesting. Nice riddles. Needs to be longer, though.

Stuck on fear. Still don't understand the first island :(.

Love it! I got stuck on the island of peril. Beautiful artwork, great execution. I think maybe there should be a hint somewhere that you can look at the source code for a hint. I played this a couple times before and couldn't get past the first screen, so I didn't want to rate it. But the hints you have structured are really just that, hints. My fave was the Island of Fear.

I have no idea what to answer on the island of fear. Even with the hint.
Nice, quite different idea. But getting stuck is basically the end of the game.

AH! I GET IT NOW!
You had some devilish little riddles in there.
The answer to FEAR was so awesome. Took me a while.

Love the art. The riddles were mostly too oblique for me, I got some of them, some by guessing, but mostly had to cheat.
The final screen was great, love to see that on a t-shirt. :)
Nice twist on the theme, too.

I love this, it was viscous, but clever enough for that to be forgiven, and seriously attractive. Really nice take on the genre... and really beautiful. Did I mention it looks great?
