update #6 hungry tiny planet AKA atmosfeast
I actually submitted my game a few hours ago, but forgot to post anything about it being done.
My game, as far as this comp goes, is done. I didn’t put everything I wanted in, not because I ran out of time, but because I think the game as it is is pretty good and feels fun.
I’ve found myself going back to my game over and over and playing it again just because it’s fun, so I hope that comes across well, and that others enjoy it too.
Something that’s hard to convey in just screenshots is the animation that I’ve put in my game, this is something that I think gives my game a really nice feel. The way the menu transitions into the main game and how each planet reacts to getting sucked in and spawning, it feels and looks really nice.
I’m quite happy with how it turned out, even though i submitted a full 10 hours before the deadline. I hope that doesn’t count against me or anything…
update #5 tiny hungry planet
this will be my last update before finishing the jam, I’m nearly done now, just tidying up a few things and adding in some tracking stuff before submitting.
I’ve added in sound effects, music that I made very quickly late last night in garage band, menu and game over screens and some extra effects.
I hope no one turns off the game based on the music alone, I dont really make music so i just dragged some loops around in garage band until it sounded alright.
Im still keeping quite simplistic with the graphics, just lots of glowy things and 80′s styled titles rather than throwing lots of graphics at the screen, the game doesnt really need it and I feel that its easy to understand what’s going on as is.
Oh, I want to add in some powerups, that’ll be simple enough to add in though.
No playable version this time, you’ll just have to wait till i reveal the whole thing as it’s nearly there now anyway.
update #4 tiny hungry planet
My last update for tonight, need to get some sleep before finishing this off tomorrow.
I’ve added in some more effects, levelling up and a time limit. But the time limit doesnt do anything at the moment, just counts down.
I’ve still got more effects to add in, finish off some graphics and add in the menu and game over screens as well as a highscore system and music.
The game feels pretty fun right now, but im sure it could be made more fun. I’m just not sure right now, I’m too tired to tell.
Here’s the newest build with some fancier graphics and a progressively harder gameplay.
update #3 tiny hungry planet
update#2 tiny hungry planet
update #1 tiny hungry planet
So, after having forgotten about LD until about mid day today, and actually deciding that I was going to participate and make a game, I’ve been working on a little idea for about 4 hours now. It’s coming together nicely I think.
My game is all about a single lonely person on a small, hungry planet, and he has to use his laser to grab nearby floating planets into his own to make it grow.
I’m not going for concept originality here, just something that is fun and will hopefully look cool by the end of it.
So far, I have the grabbing planets and feeding mechanism working and nearby planets float around nicely.
Need to add bad guys, levels, scoring and make it look great. Shouldn’t be too hard…
