One of the things that took me a lot of time during LD23 was level design. This is partly because I didn’t have a tile map editor that I was familiar with and it seemed like working with the CSV data was good enough.
Please, give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below. I’m currently hosting it via Dropbox, but I may provide a more permanent home if needed. Also, if there is interest, I’d be glad to put up a bitbucket repo with complete source.
It has been tested thoroughly in Chrome, and minimally in Firefox and IE9. I recommend using Chrome for now.

Turns out, I should set gLapse to take screenshots at higher resolution. Either way, I did make a time-lapse of my work because I understand people find them interesting.
And really, it helps me too because I can see where I wasted time (like #ludumdare).

Overall, I think it turned out well. I didn’t know what to expect from this, and I definitely had some surprises, but it was a lot of fun to make something playable in such a short time.
I’m done for the first couple hours. I don’t have much yet, but I think I have a workable idea. Here’s a pathetic screenshot:
You can try out the movement (arrow keys only just now) and swap between normal and tiny world with ctrl and alt keys (for now) at my live demo page.
It’s glitchy and doesn’t do much, but I have an animated world sprite and the start of a plan for my first full day tomorrow. Step one, get some sleep!
I updated that post with the link to kilo, but I thought I’d make sure it was seen and post this (don’t want to get disqualified from my first LD!). If anyone decides to check it out, please let me know if you have any recommendations for how to improve. It’s a public repo, so feel free to fork and contribute changes back!
I guess this is what we’re supposed to do. It’s the first time I’ll be participating; I have no idea how this will go, but I’m going to give it a try!
