    The Tourist – Update 2

    Oh sheesh, this is starting to resemble a game!

    I’ve got 85% of the tricky technical stuff down. Left on the to do list: implement pulling of items (right now you can only push them, which can lead to “deadlock”) and a more dynamic scoring system (right now everything’s worth 50 points, but there’s some more subtlety than that I want to include).

    And then, it’s just a matter of cranking out items. Right now there’s 29 different ones, I’d like to see if I can come up with at least 50 (to encourage exploration & discovery of new parts of the map).

    The progress of my game up to this point:

    Essentially, I’ve ended up with a super-boring top-down 2-D Minecraft clone.

    The good news is that this “user-controlled map creation” (i.e. the player gets to define the boundaries of the game world) was what I anticipated being the hardest technical challenge. So nothing but smooth sailing from here on out, right? :)
