I have submitted my final game (source is with the download).
I hope you all enjoy it!
So, I think I’m almost ready to submit it. Everything seems to be working well. Here’s a screen shot:
Just a few more rounds of testing and it should be ready to go
I’ve been intermittently working on this. I’m glad I picked a some-what easier task for my first, since I have a pretty busy weekend. I’ve been adding in action, and have quite a bit done. I recently added the most important, though:
Figured I’d follow suit and post some updates! So I’ve got the design hammered out, and have been working on getting the design from paper to an XML file. I’ve also started writing some code for reading in the data and some processing of user input. Most of the code so far is just data structures for handling the various elements of the game (I’m probably over-engineering it, but that’s what I do). Here’s a screen shot of direction handling:
I know it’s not as pretty as everyone else’s, being interactive fiction, but I’m pretty happy with it so far .
So I’ve got the preliminary design done for what will be my first LD entry! I had a few ideas that would work nice with the theme, but decided to pick one that’s actually been on my mind for a bit. It’s an interactive fiction game, though, so it’ll be pretty different from the other entries, I imagine. Looking at some of the posts (and past entries), there are some cool graphics for these contests, but an artist I am not . Since a screenshot wouldn’t be terribly exciting (and I don’t have any code written yet, anyway), here’s a (poor quality) picture of the design:
It’ll be pretty short, and I have the interactions mostly hammered out. Next I’ll be going through the design on a whiteboard, making sure it’s structured how I want it to be. It shouldn’t take too long to code it up after that. I’m not expecting to get much points in the audio and graphics categories . I mostly just want to get my feet wet and get a game entered.
I look forward to playing everyone’s games, and seeing what cool things people come up with for this theme. Good luck, everyone!
