Thelemite – my first full-time Indie game
Monday, September 5th, 2011 11:42 amIt’s vaguely related to LD, but I’d like to share that since going full-time indie last month, Im on the verge of finishing my first game as a fulltime indie – Thelemite.
Thelemite is a fast paced 2D brawler made using FlashPunk. It’s about Melex Archer, a video game programmer, who out of boredom had undergone mdeical experimentation that transformed him into mutant ninja!
Overall it was quite an experience, especially having to undergo a blitz crash-course in pixel art.
Here is a trailer of what to expect:
I’m really finishing, and as I’m done with that, I plane to extend McPixel as my next project.
What Escape really means….
Thursday, August 25th, 2011 4:32 amOk, I have noticed that many people don’t actually know the full meaning of word escape which might be affecting voting in the Theme category. I don’t blame anyone and no one should, since most of the folk here aren’t native English speakers (me too, but I’m an English teacher
).
So, Here is a definition from The Free Dictionary with some pictures for better reading
escape [ɪˈskeɪp]
verb
- to get away or break free from (confinements, captors, etc.)
the lion escaped from the zoo
- to manage to avoid (imminent danger, punishment, evil, etc.)
to escape death
- (intr; usually foll by from) (of gases, liquids, etc.) to issue gradually, as from a crack or fissure; seep; leak
water was escaping from the dam
- (tr) to elude; be forgotten by
the actual figure escapes me

a roar escaped his lips
- (Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Horticulture) (intr) (of cultivated plants) to grow wild

Sitelock madness!
Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 3:40 amSo, I had some hard time preventing my LD20 (the previous one
) game from spreading around the internet like mad, so i thought about sitelocking it this time. So I did, and during the short period when it was on Kongregate, someone already put it on his site. I wouldn’t mind, but since I decided to take it down from Kong and continue development, I didn’t want it to spread over the internet beforehand.
And to my astonishment, the simple sitelock worked and the game didn’t launch
So I immediately got this idea in my hand: if I can rule out playing that game, I can pull off a prank
So, I changed the sitelock to play the special ending right away if the sitelock test fails
Uhm…. I guess you would need to see the special ending to get the joke
So I’m gonna shamelessly plug my entry into this post
tl;dr – Someone stole my game – it was sitelocked – changed sitelock to a pranky one – win – ps, play my game
McPixel hasn’t said the last word yet!
Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 5:05 amSo, I am really satisfied with what I achieved this LD, and I must say that good planning is to blame for that
I got all excited and uploaded the game to Kongregate, but then I thought “Wait! If I made 6 levels in one day, how many could I make in a week?”
So I took it down from Kong, and I plan to make many more levels now!
Here are the six original levels

Play it if you dare!
McPixel saves Kongregate!

McPixel saved the day once again!
Sunday, August 21st, 2011 11:23 pmYes yes yes! I have a game that is actually finished and finishable
I am trying to relate it to not being drunk the entire weekend, but it’s probably just a coincidence.
So where’s my checklist…
1. Prepare a framework for rapid level creation – check! – Entire first day I designated to creating a framework so that I could create levels like mad on Sunday. I managed to do it, and level creation was done 90% using GraphicsGale. All the gags are animated frame-by-frame, and items are loaded from a color-keyed map.

2. Create levels like mad – yup! – I was making levels the entire Sunday, I wanted to have 16, then 8, but I end up with 6. Good enough! Anyways my plan was to have a ready game on the first day, so that i will just do as many levels as possible.
3. Have witty puzzles – dud! – Well… my brain wasn’t really prepared for that, and I can truly say that I blessed McPixel with a secret mission to facepalm the player to death.
4. Cool website – weee! – HTML 3.0 + CSS is just awesome!
Try it! and let me know what do you think!

Taken to the next level!

Sunday, August 21st, 2011 3:39 amOh, I was utilising G+ as my progress report thingie while the site was out, so I need to make up for this now.
I managed to create a simple point’n'click adventure system with multiple outcomes and such, and wanted to have one level ready before sleep yesturday, but…..
Ok, no butts, I made it

McPixel
Saturday, August 20th, 2011 8:54 amMcPixel is will be a point’n'click adventure where you have a reeeeaaally short amount of time to solve a simple riddle.

I’m currently coding in some basic stuff and helpers to be able to just create levels like mad later.
Übersimple FlashPunk platformer framework
Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 12:03 pmHey, I’m usually starting from scratch but this time I wanted to have a basecode and share it
It’s a pretty simple framework built ontop of FlashPunk that does the following:
- Loads Tile Studio binary tilemap format
- Displays the thing
- Does collisions with the map
It’s well commented and extensible and I will reconsider using this if nobody else find this useful.
there’s also a sample tilemap and Tile Studio project but it’s not to be used.

Please comment on this post if you find this useful.

ghbrvlowabrvfladberogvlwrvfwlo games wants you!
Sunday, August 14th, 2011 2:55 pmThis might sounds like a joke, but I’m being absolutely serious.
ghbrvlowabrvfladberogvlwrvfwlo games is bunch of quality-free games that you made (or not yet)!
In a nutshell, this is how it works:
- People upload games
- When the meter reaches 700MB, all games get bundled on a CD
- ISO image, game selector, and a booklet (for various CD-box sizes) is made
- The games will not install! I will make a thingie that unzips to temp and runs.
- Everyone can assemble the CD at home and go merchandise it! (As in, on the street)
- Also, I will prepare an instructional video on how to trick people into buying it
This might sound poor, but I must say that I successfully managed to sell such stuff on the street, and it can profit (unless it rains).
All we need is a CD full of games! After it’s full, I’ll tweak the meter to a DVD size (4.7 GB).
Well, I bet all of you have some teeny tiny games that will fit there perfectly, or will make ones!
Also, you can consider ghbrvlowabrvfladberogvlwrvfwlo games a host for your LD21 games, if you are OK with what can happen to it.
