Hi! I'm Sos!
I'm an average programmer guy and I suffer from untreatable compo addiction. That's how I got here :P
Also, I have a website: http://www.sos.gd/

Hey I wanted to share the fact that I just finished my website! Please let me know what do you think of it! Also, I got this coooool domain name! I feel like a better man now
Special thanks to everyone who helped me with that on IRC!
So, not being satisfied with the completion rate of my LD entyr, i decided to work on it some more and upload it to a Flash hosting site. I spent waaay mroe time improving it than I intended, and people are still pointing out bugs, which I’m trying to hunt down.
Anyways, I’m pretty much satisfied with what I got now, and I already spammed some flash-hosting services with it.
So, what’s changed:
LD version didn’t even use half of the 128×128 tile grid, the improved version utilises almost all of it.
Added many new tiles, redrawn some enemies, added flickering effect to bullet to distinguish them from other stuff. Also, parallax background (yay!)
Added a boss, and a pretty hard one. Actually, it’s the only hard thing. Or…
No future mode
When you beat the game, you have an option to test your skills in ‘no future mode’ (a cake to anyone who figures where this term comes from) IMO it’s unbeatable, but who knows….
I aimed at having a lot of explosions in this entry, and all I had was some dust. I fixed this by adding loooooooooooots of explosions.
Now it has an intro, therefore a plot. It might not be an epic one, but it comes with a twist Also, I made the character talk. Talking animation was done during the LD, but there was no code to wrap it around.
Haha, no, that’s a lie.
Game balance + physics update
I updated the physics a bit, so that you have more control over the character, and balanced the game so it might actually get tough at some point. I took my time to reply the game thousand times to balance it properly.
Actually, music is the very same cause I couldn’t push myself to change it after listening to it so many times, even tho I know it’s shit But I added intro music (not mine, tho). Ok, I changed the music track due to lots of comments saying it’s shit . I spent about 2 minutes making the old track so no wonder Anyways, the new one should sound much better.
Now let me nag you with this lengthy comparison:
And try it there:
Also, it’s awaiting approval on other sites I spammed with it. Wish me luck with that!
So… I feel I somehow failed by not devoting enough time to this LD to make my game complete. Let me get into the details
What was the plan
Make a game where you are given random stuff by NPCs and need to get rid of it.
What was the outcome
A manic shmup platformer thingie.
What went wrong
As I said, I didn’t devote enough time for this. The level is not fully done. some features that are implemented are not accessible. Also, some features that got their placement and graphics, are not implemented. It’s all half-cooked both ways.
What went right
The game. Seriously, I’m pretty happy with it even tho, I didn’t manage to polish it as much as I wanted to. Switching plans to shmup was a good choice, and it has a bullet-hell feel to it near to the end, but then, there are no enemies to use that against. I tried to get around that by adding whole hordes of enemies, but it just gets choppy is such places.
So… what’s the plan
I’ll probably spend this evening trying to fix some bugs, adding enemies, and hooking up lost features, and then get the thing to Kongregate.
Man there’s so much to do and so little time, so much could have been improved oh man I…
move = ((Math.random() > .5) ? 1 : -1); can’t…
if (tile == 1) FP.world.add(new Kitten(xx * s, yy * s)); stop….
if (xx > 0 && yy > 0 && xx < FP.screen.width && yy < FP.screen.height) coding….
public var shoot_yoffset:Number = 16; NOOO….
Anyways, I’m not giving up!
Ok, I implemented 10 weapons:
- Rocket launcher
- Bouncy mine
- Nukefist launcher
You can try them out here
Ok my platformer is platforming pretty well! I’m gonna take a break from coding now to get some fresh air, and then be back to progress further.
Lot’s of work ahead, so i’m keeping it short and bundled
That’s my awesome tri-screen workplace setup:
That was my breakfast:
And that’s my progress:
Game is called Hoarding Inc. I’ll explain more details when they are done.
Play it here: http://www.sos.gd/ld20
Playability report: tutorials done, movable sprite
Man, I can’t wait to get my hands on the
kittens theme. Let’s do this! Also, I really appreciate being able to create a keynote, it was a fun task, and thanks everyone who helped me with that! Anyways, I should declare tools:
Programming: AS3 + FlashDevelop + FlashPunk + (optionally) Player.IO
Graphics: MS Paint + GraphicsGale + IrfanView + XnView (that’s my combo!)
Sounds: Mic recording + Cool Edit Pro
Music: FL Studio or (optionally) Commodore 64
I learnt AS3 thanks to the Ludum Dare (17, it was) now it’s time to use the skill properly!
PS. i found this:
I was assigned with a noble task of creating the keynote for the next LD and I wanted to include as many people as I can saying I’m in in it. For convenience of getting this all done, I prepared a thingie, that records webcam, and uploads the video. The video uploaded is not viewable for anyone but me for now. So…
If you’re in, please say it (also, be original )
I want to get the thing done by tuesday, so please don’t hestitate
