So, close.
So, here’s a screenshot or two:
Next, I didn’t blog as much becuase last time I was slightly distracted by blogging instead of just developing. So, up next will most likely be my meal montage for your enjoyment. Followed by a comprehensive list of how to fail at ludum dare, or my jam entry. Add another failure to the ever growing list. The problem? No way of scoring. Hopefully I can get that fixed.
Plan B
Okay, so scratch idea A. Which was to take the form of a top down shooter as you crawl around the planet of the Pigmen looking for clues and Antilunimium. I drew a map, a character, and a spaceship. And a few other odds and ends. Then I woke up late this mor, er afternoon. So, without further ado, I present plan B, “Lunarium”. Yes, there will still be a grappling hook, but not as you think.
Inspirational Quote Time
“YE GODS! IT’S FULL OF STARS!”
-Massey, “Schlocks Mercenary’s”, (and some other guy)
(forgive me, I had to, now someone make a telescope game.
Components
Regardless of theme. I will have, multidirectional top down shooting, a bouncing ball thing, and hopefully a grappling hook. And if all else fails, I’ll toss up a card game in the mix. So, I should probably have a game this time.
Edit: Darn wordpress and stupid password fails. grumble
Cheesy?
You know, I had an idea. Since we can write base engines for a for a while now, I was thinking, animation skeletons? *ducks from bricks*
Okay, to put more into perspective, it really is awful to try and design a platform character but it takes no time to draw a box. So, i thought, make a simple character sheet that anyone can use with running, jumping etc. Make it open source and declare it’s use (just like a code engine) and let everybody else use it too. Just a thought.
*ducks and runs from brick throwers*
Edit: A small adendum. Since it might not be clear, I’m making it so so there’s no confusion later. I’ll also be using any and all of these examples as well:

So in!
And this time, I’m only focusing on Game Development. I will be using the same tools as I did last time. Which are:
Flash Develop
Flixel
My Engine Library
Sfxr
Fruity Loops/WolframTones
Hopefully my library has expanded well enough that I can finish a game. But, just in case, guess what I’m doing this weekend/next week? That’s right. Finishing up core elements of what I may want to use. Because, well. I really want to finish a game this time.
See you there!
Chat
Well, I thought I’d post here as well.
Chat meet-up details coming soonish.
Not quite what I was hoping for. But it’s something.
Plan B
Will be up when I get it. At least I tried right? I got a new idea. Gimme some time and I’ll post it.

MIDWEST TRI-STATE LOCAL AREA PRE-LUDUM DARE INDIE DEV MEET UP
Hi there! Long time no post eh?
Still, I am here with an idea. I’ll post the full idea and details later as I get them. But the idea is this.
A couple of weeks ago, I thought of all the indie news I see and hear and I realized something. I have not (or may have not paid attention to see) seen anything from my local area. Granted, I’m in a small little town in the middle of no-where, but still. There has got to be some other indie devs in my area. Right? Right? So, I had this thought.
Why not make a shout out to the depths of the internet of where I reach and see if anybody wants to meet for a cup of coffee or two and a jam session? So, that’s what I’m doing. I want to find out if there’s any, any other indie developers within my local area. Which includes my home state of Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Missourians are welcome too. Even though I live about 2 hours from St. Louis.
While I’m not expecting somebody from 150-200 miles away to get here in Fairfield Illinois, I’m hoping that there’s at least one or two other local developers. I mean, haven’t you ever found yourself wondering if there were other indie developers in your area? Well, I don’t want to wonder anymore. I’m actually hoping to meet at least just one other indie dev. Do any of you live near here and want to meet up? Please let me know!
I’ll post more details later, but, that’s pretty much the idea.
Because you missed it: Part 1
Ludum Dare number 17 timelapse is uploaded!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut-CXi8UDYg
No, that’s not a typo. I never got around to editing the video from my LD17 attempt. So I had a little time left this evening and thought I’d get it up today. Go me. This is going to be a two part video becuase I did take a lot of footage. I seriously did try to crop it all under 15 minutes but couldn’t crunch it enough. So, after I upload the second part to this, I’ll upload my LD18 timelapse. Does anyone know what I do with the screenshots Chronolapse takes? Is there a program or utility I can use?
(please note I juu-uust uploaded it so the early views may have quality sufferings)

“Is that a Lego setup on the left shelf? Is it a battle or some kind of scene?”
Yes it is! Allow me to get kiddy for a second or two. That is actually my main sci-fi base. On the right top shelf is my custom Jedi temple (which is partially covered by plastic trash. On the farther LEFT, out of the picture, is my castle fortress. In the center, behind the laptop, is a slightly trashed town set up.
@Spiridion and Osgeld
No, it’s more of a time thing. I go to church on sunday mornings and evenings. So that means get up 9-ish, church for 2+ hours, dinner, nap, dishes (maybe), bout an hour left, then church again. So I really had no time at all left. Also, any bad programmer art is better then my bad pixel art.
@alistair aitcheson and madk
Thanks for the suggestions! Although, if I’d use a starfield again, I’d probably just go with one color. Maybe white. Though pink does sound lovely.
@everyone else who posted on the quitting thread
Thank you! It’s nice to see this sort of encouragement. I’m gonna really gun for it in december and try and make a game in time. Thanks again!
A short music protest
Before you all post your fancy lovely timelapses, please be aware of what music you want to use. Now before you go, I don’t have anything good so I’ll just use ‘Ice Kitty and the Purple Tomatoes volume 3′, keep in mind, that not everyone may appreciate that kind of music. So, without further adu, I’d like to make a small suggestion:
http://8bc.org/
Please consider finding some good chipmusic. There is a lot of it free for any use here so don’t be afraid to grab a couple songs, give credits to the artist somewhere, and add it. Have fun.
Quitting
I don’t have the skill I guess. Since there was a joke entry, I guess I could make a joke game. Anyone know how to fold a box out of paper?
I should make a note to not visit the ludum dare site while making the game come december. I make myself sick. ‘Oh my art sucks’, you say. Then I take a look, my jaw drops. Seriously, anything I’ve seen on here is better work then mine. Well, except for the smiley face target. Nah I take it back, it still looks better.
Fun

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Eh hem. You are presented with the player ship, and an enemy prototype. Press x to make the enemy fire. Run the player into the bullet that is shot. Have fun.
Attempting to fix.
(next time I’m doing a platformer)
tick tick tick tick tick tick
Maybe december I’ll have an entry.
As it’s looking now, I doubt I’ll have anything playable. At least I got a stafield. Right? If I get anything done by 2am my time I’ll let you know. If not, maybe a post or two will have my withdrawal.
Til then, cheers and good luck all!
(really wanted to finish for this theme too, darn it)
Gooood Morning
I have some progress to report.
First off, breakfast:

nomies
Second of all, here’s that snazzy starfield I promised:

oooh, pretty
If all goes well, that will be the area for the final boss in the game. For now it’s just a pretty title screen. Now comes the question. White stars or colored stars? Hmm.
Wow
Am I surprised at the progress some people have made!
I at least have a title and text appearing. Plus the core mechanic concepted out.
-Astro Variance
The player is defending his home planet from an alien attack. The player’s weapon systems aren’t comlete but the shields are. The shields deflect incoming shots back to the enemy. The shots also charge a super weapon to discharge after a certain amount of time. The shields have their own depletion rate and recharge rate. If a shield is down and the player gets shot, then the player loses some of their health points. If they don’t switch to a new shield before it hits 0, the player dies.
That’s all I got. Hopefully I”ll have a snazzy star field to show off in the morning.
Robot Unicorn Tower Defense
No seriously. If double rainbow zombies would’ve won, I seriously considered that title. But, as per tradition:

not the last
Om nom nom nom scarf!
LD 18 is a go-go!
I can’t wait to learn a lot of useful things to do in flixel!
Wrap arounds, controlling counters, tasty explosions, maybe even a starfield! This is gonna be great!
Now if only I can think of a name for this shmup. But first order of business, learn chronosphere. Eeep.
(evolution next time people, next time!)
