OK, so the three levels I included with the Tower Construction Kit were very quickly thrown together, mostly just to demonstrate the different features of the editor sandbox. I probably spent about 60 seconds total making the third and final level (and even less time throwing down blocks for the first two), and honestly I had no idea if it was even winnable. So, I just spent a little while playing with it to find out, and voila, I beat my own game!

It actually turns out to be quite close. The necessary arrangement of the blocks is kind of tricky, which is good. It means this level has a nice balance of difficulty and, well, actually being possible to win…not bad for a minute of furious last-minute scribbling, I’d say

OK, here’s my half-finished game. The idea was to make a full-featured block-based Tower editor to create a series of levels. Of course, I ran out of time and only included a few simple levels with one basic win mechanic – just stack the blocks high enough and let them come to rest, and you win. However, the editor is pretty full-featured and fun to just play around with, and it does a good job of showing off the underlying 2D Java physics engine.

Right click to drag around objects. Left click to create objects in the editor mode.

It’s a signed applet (due to the XML reader/writer I’m using for saving/loading levels), so you’ll have to click through a security permission to play. But hopefully it should be cross-platform enough so that you’ll be able to try it out. Have fun!

hello all, this is my first speed-coding game competition, so I don’t really know what to expect. like my fellow ludum newbies below, I too will be developing in a nice blend of PulpCore, JBox2D, and our very own custom physics integration library, PulpFizz (ooh, what a relief it is!). I’m hoping the theme will lend itself nicely to some magical physics awesomeness. also, whatever the theme, I plan to title my game “Kamikaze Koalas” if at all possible.

…hmm, I wonder if something like an Alka-Seltzer caffiene tablet exists?
