The Not-So-Big Bad
I thought I’d make a post here, since I’m making it for this competition!
The Not-So-Big Bad is a game where you play as the boss of an RPG, I love upgrades so that’s a huge thing in my game!
To win, you have to beat the highest level AI at the last location (upgradable, of course!), but you can get other awards also!

Yay! Version 0.5-ish?
Second (pre)release, and there is now a level 2, and the cutscene moves automatically (before you needed to hit enter, but I forgot to tell people that!)
New version has been uploaded, I hope you guys like it!
First version released!
I got a first version done, with a first level, I think that’s it for tonight!
Check it out here!
Let me know of any issues please!
What should I set chronolapse to?
I’m using chronolapse to do my timelapse, and I was wondering what I should set the capture rate to, as well as the frame rate for the video…
What do you guys think?
I’m in, I think…
I’m planning to enter my second Mini Ludum dare, and I’d like to see what I can get done!
Wish me luck!
Flowcharts: They really work!
For a little project I’m working on, I made a flowchart to help with the design aspect of it. After finishing the flowchart, I realized exactly how important and helpful it is to make one…
A few reasons why flowcharts are good to have in your game.
- You can see how each menu connects to others
- It will allow to decide what to make public and what to make private based on connections
- It shows how the game will flow
- They can look pretty nifty
- It’s something to put in the Bonus Features
- go to www.gliffy.com.
- make a flowchart
- Use the print screen (prt scrn) key on your keyboard
- paste image into image editor of your choice.
- edit as desired
- save file
- your done!
I’ve got to take a rain check this time…
I really wanted to do an “actual” LD after doing the mini, but there is a camping trip that was scheduled months before the day of this, so I’m going to have to say that I can’t make it
Maybe next time?
To End The War, Mini Post-Mortem
I’m going to be out of town for a week with no computer (scout camp), so here’s a little post mortem.
We are gathered here today to talk a bit about my first (Mini)LD game, To End The War, available for download here.
Timelapse: Timelapse
What went well:
1. I got a taste of Game creation
2. I learned how hard it is to focus
What went badly:
1. I was very distracted, most of the removed clips were of me playing games online
2. I didn’t get too much sleep, as I stayed up playing FFVII
3. I aimed WAY to high!
Let me know if I missed something.
See you guys later!
Randomly encountering!
quick, name the most annoying part about RPGs…
bingo, Random Encounters every two seconds!
My basic random encounter system is working, but it runs about 30 times a second, but hey, I can get that tweaked!
Anyway, I might not get any story done, but at least with the random encounters done, I just need battle, levels, money, and shops, and that should be enough for the Mini LD!
No updates yet, as the changes aren’t visible, but there’ll be an update tonight, I promise!
FYI, the “Black Triangle” is a milestone for the programmer that nobody else knows/cares about, like outputting a black triangle on a black screen, it’s a huge achievement, but nobody notices it!
End of Day two, and a little more to show…
Well, it’s the end of day two, so the link is the same, but you can actually move around!
Just FYI, if you use an arrow key to continue from the story, the character will start moving…
Anyway, art and such is in the Data folder, you can edit the map file using notepad
01 is the dirt, and 00 is the swamp, anything else will cause issues!
also, the first actual screenshot!
Let me know what you think of it so far!
Well, day two, and not much to show!
I’ve been working more on some of the backend stuff, so not much is done right now…

Well, I doubt that it’ll be too exciting, but hey, I’ve got more time today, and I’m pretty inspired (started FFVII again, maybe I’ll beat it this time!)…
Feedback, comments, critique, really anything that this site allows in comments is fine!
EDIT: My dev tools!
Language: C++
Library: SDL
IDE: Visual C++ Express 2010
Music: Musagi
Art: PAINT.NET
I’m starting now, if that’s okay…
Okay, due to time issues, I’m only able to do the Mini LD right now, I can assure you that I haven’t seen the theme until just know, and even then that was caught on the timelapse…
Anyway, my idea…
Sorry if it’s insanely huge, I make them at 640X480, which is what my games’ resolution is…
How does this tie in with war, apart from the title?
Well, the main(ish) character is at war with himself.
That and it’s a FFVII-ish setting, too
The FFVII theme becomes evident as with this image made in PAINT.NET, like most of my “screenshots”
The blue arrow represents who is talking, as it’s a birds-eye-view…
Thanks guys, I’m looking forward to my first (mini)LD!
Yay, Mini LD!
Okay, I, thePalindrome, wanted to ask which would be better, as I want to be prepared for my first (mini)LD…
Which is better, making the game with C++, or AS3?
I have experience with C++ and Java, I’m thinking C++, but it wouldn’t be web-compatible…
What would you guys say?
