Giving away games from the humble bundle! Come get some at http://www.twitch.tv/potatoman103021!
Tonight if and when dvcolgan’s stream gets to 100 viewers, I will be doing a giveaway, directions will be given by moderators and you will be directed to the giveaway. If you are in the stream of course . I will be giving away games from the humble bundle and possibly, but not probably, more.
The main star though, is Dvcolgan and his amazing stream, so even if we don’t get to do the giveaway, you can still see an awesome stream! The stream is truly entertaining, and you can learn a good amount about web development from just watching the stream and communicating with him and those in the chat! So come join us.
Well, if you saw my post yesterday about not being here for thew Compo, you will know I am making my game now, and will be submitting it via my phone while on vacation.
I have made a little bit of progress in the about hour and a half I worked last night. The game will be a FPS, with a twist, keep the enemy alive.
Firstly, the theme I am going with, pigs, has turned into monkey pigs:
I have also made a second model for walking, but I need to redo it.
Secondly, I have made a todo/idea list which you can view here
The idea of the game is that you have pigs attacking you, but you need to keep them alive, as their genetically modified farts are the only source of oxygen when we have killed all flower and tree life.
The challenge of the game is that we all know that you can’t have monkey-pigs, without bandits to attack them, so you need to keep the pigs alive, while they are attacking you, while bandits are attacking them, if the game is finished.
I am going to start to work in unity now, to make the game mechanics and move towards the end of the todo list
So, if you’re like me, you will not be able to be at a computer during the competition, so I decided to make a game now and hope for the best .
Here is what I will be doing:
- Take the first theme I get when I open the slaughter
(I got pigs…duh)
- Make a game based off of it: Stream!
- When Ludum Dare Starts, upload the game and hope to the Ludum Gods-I’m looking at you guys- that your game goes well with the theme(not likely).
Come join me and have a nice day!
Join me by posting what got as a theme, as I did(awesome art needed), and post your game as close as possible to the beginning of the competition
Well, title says all, starting my stream!
I will attempt to stream all night. I will be using unity and learning as I go, but it will be fun and games…or something like that. Anyways, tune in and watch me die on stream!
Come watch me make a sidescroller in unity 3D at http://www.twitch.tv/pieman103021
I have a build that you guys can play around with.
Note that there is dialogue at the beginning, because I was playing around with audacity.
Learning Unity! This is what I have so far!
I have imported 3D Models from Sculptris, and made one a player! I will continue to work, and stream after I eat.
Stop bye and say hello on the stream!
Also later I will be streaming Modded Minecraft with some friends
Well, I’m in. This time I will be doing something new to me, unity. I am currently learning unity, and decided to give the compo a shot.
I will be using:
Unity(JS and C#)
I have no idea what to do for sound
I will timelapse and livestream using Xsplit.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
I competed this LD and in LD22 both times I used XNA. Now I have come to the problem of Windows 8, which does not support XNA. So I will be using java for my next Ludum Dare, may it be 26 or later, I will use Java.
There is more to it than just because of Windows 8. I just don’t like XNA as much as Java. I find Java easier to program in and once I am able to make graphical games, I think I will be able to do more with it than with XNA. Also Java is easier to send out to the public, and can be used on mac. By no means am I saying XNA is bad, it’s just not for me.
Thank you for reading, please play and rate my game here
So I figure I will be done with 30 minutes left to go, so I may have to work on the game during the submission hour.
Don’t tell anyone : )
So today was spent with family and now I have about 2 hours worth of schoolwork. In a short amount of time the guest room that contains my computer will be occupied, so I will get to work as soon as possible with my school work and hopefully finish before the end of the submission hour.
The one problem with LD is that you are expected to cut yourself off from the outside world to deliver a fun game. I will probably submit a crappy game that only had 8.5 – 9 hours of work. I understand that there is the jam to submit my game to, but then I need to work on a monday after school. It seems that until I have much better coding skills it is hard to schedule to make a game.
Enough ranting I have 2 hours and 15 minutes to do about 4 hours worth of work.
Just an off topic question.
If there was a windows phone app making jam, would anybody compete in it?
I recently got the Nokia Lumia 920 and realized the lack of apps on it. Not just games, but apps in general. The phones are so powerful and can support so much, but people don’t realize that. So I want to know if anyone would try to help make apps for it.
Thanks for reading,
You can’t see, but I am using keyboard controls. The game has an energy system, but not a good one. I am about to make a better one and give the attacks animations so you can see what I am doing.
In XNA for whatever reason, the Mouse coordinates are always wrong. This means that my buttons are screwed up.
If anyone knows how to fix this please help me.
Now there is a list of attacks that can be used.
Now I just need to implement them and figure out how I want to do all of the graphics.
I will probably get a little farther then I am going bowling. I’ll keep a notepad (app) with me in case I have a great idea.
Also just a side note, if there was a windows phone program making competition, would you compete in it. Comment below please
I don’t know how much I lost, but I hope not too much.
I was in the middle of dealing with a graphical bug, and will get back to that shortly
