Hi,
I just finished writing a tutorial that goes in pair with my platformer framework. I hope that someone will actually use it!

Check it out here!

What’s inside:

  • A link to Flashpunk tutorial :P
  • A ready framework platformer project
  • Handling collisions and gravity and stuff
  • Integrating Tile Studio and Graphics Gale
  • Source package of one of my game made using this

It should enable anyone who knows at least some programming to make a platformer using this druing the Ludum Dare!

Hi,
I’m writing to apologise that it appears I lost some of the I’m in videos. Apparently Viddler deletes everything after 30 days. Not knowing that I left out few videos to wither and expire :( I’m really sorry guys, I only realised that when I tried to download the videos just now.

All that’s left are these thumbnails in my browser cache.

:(
EDIT: If you recognise yourself on one of the thumbs, please reupload on http://sos.gd/ld_vid I’ll include the videos!

Okay, I’m totally in and here is what I’m going to use:

Code: Flash Develop
API: FlashPunk
Drawing: Graphics Gale
Sounds: Cool Edit Pro+ Mic
Music: FL Studio
Theme: Kittens

See you there!

PS
The I’m in video count is 74 \o/ That’s a new record! I’m going to put them together soon!

PS2
I totally failed the warmup, and I’m not even ashamed :(

The link below will take you to a neat flash-based webcam recording thingie.

I tried to work out a solution, and since I have work to do, I will use that as an advantage.
I will be working on McPixel to make something standalone I can publish before the deadline.
I will be recording a timelapse and shooting food, I will even shave!
The details are secret :P

Pre-voting theme slaughter!

Posted by (twitter: @Sosowski)
Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 9:07 am

Okay, theme voting will begin withing few days.
But there were over 2400 submissions, and there are around 100 in the official voting.

I went ahead and removed all the themes that:

  • Had words that are not in english dictionary
  • are longer that 3 words
  • contain swaering and bad language
  • are simply duplicates

This got the list down from 2400 to 1200.
So I made a tool to quickly pre-rate themes (or simply, slaughter them :P )
Please help out with that!
So, here we go

kill them themes!

EDIT: I cut the list in half and enabled live results. Abuse that to get your favourite ones to the top.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT THEME VOTING. THIS IS PUBLIC THEME PRUNING. OFFICIAL VOTING BEGINS THIS WEEKEND.

McPixel is halfway there!

I’m probably won’t finish in October, but I’m not giving up no matter what. I’m currently reaching half of the work. i have 50 levels ready, and as soon as I wrap them around, I will be looking for people to test it (I’m looking even now, actually).

Also, I made this cool poster :)

McPixel trailer and progress report

Posted by (twitter: @Sosowski)
Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 2:21 pm

Making these levels can be a bit boring, as there are quite many, but I’m not giving up! I plan to have 100 levels, and already has 25. I’m getting up to speed as I can reuse stuff I made in multiple levels.

Here are some new level screenshots:

And here is a trailer I put together today:

And obligatory LD21 version link: Play!

Ok, I’m in, but with a different take.

Posted by (twitter: @Sosowski)
Thursday, October 6th, 2011 2:27 am

My take on the October challenge is to sell an actual copy of a game, which I didn’t manage to do so far. I have licensed flash games, but I never even tried to sell a copy of a game directly to end-user.

So, my game is… McPixel!
I have already begun work on this and made a few levels. I need to pull myself together and manufacture the levels like there’s no tommorow!

Here is a proof of intent:

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then you should play the original LD21 entry

Anyways, the idea is to take it to the mobile market. I hope it will work well!

Thelemite – my first full-time Indie game

Posted by (twitter: @Sosowski)
Monday, September 5th, 2011 11:42 am

It’s vaguely related to LD, but I’d like to share that since going full-time indie last month, Im on the verge of finishing my first game as a fulltime indie – Thelemite.

Thelemite is a fast paced 2D brawler made using FlashPunk. It’s about Melex Archer, a video game programmer, who out of boredom had undergone mdeical experimentation that transformed him into mutant ninja!

Overall it was quite an experience, especially having to undergo a blitz crash-course in pixel art.

Here is a trailer of what to expect:

I’m really finishing, and as I’m done with that, I plane to extend McPixel as my next project.

What Escape really means….

Posted by (twitter: @Sosowski)
Thursday, August 25th, 2011 4:32 am

Ok, I have noticed that many people don’t actually know the full meaning of word escape which might be affecting voting in the Theme category. I don’t blame anyone and no one should, since most of the folk here aren’t native English speakers (me too, but I’m an English teacher :P ).

So, Here is a definition from The Free Dictionary with some pictures for better reading ;)

escape [ɪˈskeɪp]
verb

  1. to get away or break free from (confinements, captors, etc.)
the lion escaped from the zoo
  2. to manage to avoid (imminent danger, punishment, evil, etc.)
    to escape death
  3. (intr; usually foll by from) (of gases, liquids, etc.) to issue gradually, as from a crack or fissure; seep; leak
water was escaping from the dam
  4. (tr) to elude; be forgotten by
    the actual figure escapes me
  5. (tr) to be articulated inadvertently or involuntarily
    a roar escaped his lips
  6. (Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Horticulture) (intr) (of cultivated plants) to grow wild

Here you go :)

Sitelock madness!

Posted by (twitter: @Sosowski)
Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 3:40 am

So, I had some hard time preventing my LD20 (the previous one :P ) game from spreading around the internet like mad, so i thought about sitelocking it this time. So I did, and during the short period when it was on Kongregate, someone already put it on his site. I wouldn’t mind, but since I decided to take it down from Kong and continue development, I didn’t want it to spread over the internet beforehand.

And to my astonishment, the simple sitelock worked and the game didn’t launch :) So I immediately got this idea in my hand: if I can rule out playing that game, I can pull off a prank :P So, I changed the sitelock to play the special ending right away if the sitelock test fails :)

Uhm…. I guess you would need to see the special ending to get the joke :P So I’m gonna shamelessly plug my entry into this post

tl;dr – Someone stole my game – it was sitelocked – changed sitelock to a pranky one – win – ps, play my game
