After my failed attempt to participate in LD18 due to hangoverness, this time a choice has to be made. Literally ALL my friends have been nagging to get me out of my devcave into the nightlife and, as I know from the last time, that does not compute with LD. That’s why I’m gonna have to get up super early on Saturday, read the LD theme and decide whether or not I like it.

If I do, all is well, I tell my friends to bugger off and stay shut in for the next days. If I don’t… well, I get wasted A LOT and see if I can still get something done. I’m an optimist.

Tools:

Maybe…. FlashDevelop/FlashPunk (0.87 because I’m way too lazy to learn that modern stuff all the cool kids are using nowadays)
Or…. Visual Studio/XNA
Oooorrrr… some fancy open source JavaScript engine…
Also some Paint.NET for good measure, SFXR and stuff… Audacity, the likes.
And Chronolapse. Maybe even with a webcam again.

Good times!

I’m in after all!

So, after 32 hours of first being hungover and then not coming up with anything, an idea finally struck me in the shower just now. Which means: I’M IN!

Gonna use AS3 / an old version of FlashPunk / FlashDevelop / Paint.NET.  That’s the fastest I can come up with. Not doing a timelapse this time around because … it’d be too short. :D

Wish me luck and, of course, further luck to you guys!

Yes, it’s me again. After my last LD (#17, to be exact) went so much more smoothly than anticipated, I’m in for another round.

Influenced by the theme, I might use one of the following techniques:

  • Flash (using the FlashPunk framework)
  • XNA
  • C# (plain C# if I wanna do a console based title)
  • PHP / HTML4/5 / JavaScript (if things get messy)

And some of the following software…s:

  • FlashDevelop
  • Visual Studio Express
  • Aptana Studio
  • vim
  • Paint.NET (most definitely)
  • sfxr
  • FamiTracker
  • Audacity
  • Renoise2 (if i can be arsed)

Also, I shall timelapse my codage again via ChronoLapse. Maybe I’ll put up a webcam this time, too. And I’ll tweet a lot. Follow “sohnemann”, if you care.

Looking forward to whatever comes our way!

The Comments and The Replies

Hello!

Since all the cool kids do liek this whole reply-to-comments thing, I thought I’d alienate myself further by pointing that out.
If you haven’t commented already, DO SO, NOW!!!1oenoenene
See, like I posted previously, I suck at posting-introductions. Well then, let’s reply to some comments, eh!

Since I’m to dumb to code at the moment, I made a new tileset and background for Pleochorism’s night levels. Which are devious.

So now, after 20 hours of almost completely continuous LDing, I bid you farewell. For now. I shall be back after a couple hours of regeneration.

Double pixels? Single pixels?

Awesome?

Awesome?

So I’ve been thinking about removing the double pixels; my game would be bloated up to 800 times 800 pixels with ‘em and that sucks. Also I like the look of it with single pixels. Look at the little fella, ain’t he adorable? Input appreciated!

Over-the-top-Title-Art incoming!

WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

So, I came up with a name for my entry and drew a quick title picture for it. Isn’t it… well, I can’t draw. There is more puzzle design and tedious default stuff waiting for me, so I needed a quick distraction.

Hour 16 and counting! *headbang*

Got my supercool XML level loader up and running now. I’m almost certain that I’m doing something wrong with it, but meh, I suck at XML and it’s working, so that rules, I s’pose.

Wait, what?

Wait, what?

Yay for programmer art?

Well, I’ve got tiles and movement down. Got a couple issues with collision at the moment because it’s like 6am and I have yet to make me some coffee. :D

Another newcomer? Yikes!

Why hello there!

… did I mention that I suck at writing introductions? Anyways. I am Jannik, nicknamed smn (or sohnemann) on several forums or websites, located in Hamburg, Germany and also a web developer at a browser-game company. My game-making experience goes back to… well, actually, tons of started and then scrapped and/or erased projects and, well, 2 small crappy 5-hour games I made last month.

My tools of the trade for this wonderful weekend shall be:

  • FlashDevelop, utilizing the wonderful FlashPunk Library
  • Paint.NET for anything that has to do with graphics
  • As for sound, I have no idea yet, I’ll make something up as I go
  • ChronoLapse as well as a borrowed webcam for timelapsing hilarity
  • Some supplies of caffeinating beverages
  • Cheap frozen foodstuffs, Pizza and Burgers, preferably

Also, I suppose my Twitter-account will be quite busy this weekend, maybe I’ll also set up my netbook for USTREAMing outrage.

Well then, I hope this is gonna be a most awesome experience for all of us! See you on Friday!
