Im out
Not even a day in and i know it’s going nowhere. Stress and IRL problems have caused me to have a complete brain fart. I have a great idea but no idea where i can take it so i’m out.
Have fun everyone else.
Tick Tock Goes The Clock
In for my Third LD48, Tools of the trade are the same as last year, hold on let me dig out my last post to save me blurbing and source code linking again. If you arent that bothered i’ll just summarise here and you can ignore the source code and what have you.
I am using:
- My SuperNova Game Engine (Source Code Link)
- SkintScript Scripting Language (Source Code Link)
- SFXR
- Paint.Net
- Visual Studios 2005 Professional
- XNA Framework 2.0
- Possibly A library i wrote called “Network Library” If i decide i want to make a multiplayer game. (Source Code Link)
- C#
Good luck to all the newcomers this year and i hope you guys will enjoy it as much as i did the first year i entered. The best achievement you’ll get out of this is the satisfaction of making a game in 48 hours.
May not be starting straight away, because i’m away from home on work, but i should get a good day and a half out of this!!
Good luck all!

Adrenaline gets the fingers going!
In the past hour i’ve upgraded my Engine from DirectX to XNA, setup an Audio pipeline, added 5 new Particle effect types, and finally fixed and improved Sprite animation. I cant believe what adrenaline from excitement can get me doing!
If anyone wants to use it or have a look it can be found here
It’s a 2D top down engine.
Good luck everyone, LD forever!
Tools of the trade
So what’s going on this weekend.
What weapons have i chosen this time?
Well:
Programming
Visual C# .Net – Windows only i’m afraid.
SuperNova Game Engine (Mine, Find it here. It’s a .Net object though so you need to be writing in .Net)
Graphics
Paint .Net
Sound Effects and Music
Guitar Pro 6
sfxr for effects.
Community?!?!1!?1!?11!1one!1/1eleven!1
I’ll be streaming from start to finish here as i did last year.
I will also be trying to make a time lapse video too so we’ll see how that goes!
All pretty samey from LD17, minus the addition of SuperNova.
After LD17 i accidentally made a lot of reusable code which i chucked into a engine for me!
After i’ve submitted a Compo entry i’m thinking of teaming up with a friend to get some sexy music going for a jam release too.
Who else is going to be doing something like this?
Back for another round of LD
Slightly more prepared this time.. I’ve got a game engine framework at my disposal this time that i’ve written.
Lets hope it goes well.
Good luck to everyone else who’s participating!
Saving throw (Hopefully)
a few people reported problems when running my game… and i have filtered it down to the compiler.
It compiled the game which was only compatible on 32bit systems.
I’ve now uploaded a 64bit compiled option.
I hope this resolves some of your problems.
Link Fixed
The link to my entrys Windows download is now fixed..
sorry for any inconvenience!
And done!
Now i kneel to the mercy of you all.
Please handle with care, this is my first time
You know what it’s like when it’s your first time
Tarts, My game’s full of them!
Tarts… Tarting it up that is.. The gameplay is sound now, and i’ve had a fair bit of fun with it.. the only thing that’s lacking now is…. graphics.
I just implemented DirectSounds for some amusingly composed sounds (My voice is featured.. Head for the hills!)
Thinking of submitting before i can get more graphics done.. but i really would like a better Island image.. it just…… just…
so blegh! that’s the only way to describe it!
Anyway, grab it here, Now!
Gameplay complete!
Super Island Colonizer is COMPLETE!….
gameplay wize..
Now i’m going to see if i can get some sound into it before the deadline, and maybe pretty up the graphics a little bit..
but now…. time to relax for a bit and play some submittions.
I hope you all had/are having fun
Sailing away on a new ship
Well… soon anyway!
All i have left to do “gameplay” wize is to add boats and prevent players from colonizing any island they wish at any point….
Then i can work on making the graphics look a darn sight better than they currently do.
Here are some images so far.
A very main menu!
The wide open sea
A very happy island!
join me here for a live stream of me developing, and grab a recent build here
8 hours in….. Somewhat.. interesting developments
Download the most recent build here
Edit: Note, You need the DirectX Runtime installed and the .Net Framework, (This is Windows only, sorry Mac/Linux users!). /Edit.
it’s an island colonization and expansion game… it has no goal… yet..
I’m thinking population target over all your islands, which will force players to colonize more than 1 island..
I’m not sure, your thoughts on the way it’s heading is most appreciated.
(WASD to move the game camera around, Escape to get out of an island, Left click for everything else!)
click on the empty spaces (where the info boxes pop up) on the islands to build the discribed building..
Housing increases population, stonemasons increases stone, woodcutters increases wood, Farmer increases food.
Dock will (eventually) build ships which will allow you to colonize other islands (Although at the moment you can colonize any island anywhere without penalty or requirement.
Happy developing guys!
