CompoHub is now open!

CompoHub (which wrote about earlier) is finally fully open! It lists all kinds of game development events, like Ludum Dare, and optionally sends them to your feed reader too. Check it out if your interested!

I haven’t added all the features I’ve talked about but I may add them later. Contact me if you would like to update the content.

Game development event calendar

I’ve been building a website for listing dame development events for a while now. It’s not finished yet but it’s starting to shape up, so I thought I could show it to you now.

The site has a neat calendar thing that shows all the events I know about. Clicking them shows a bit more information. Annoying time zone conversions are made for you. In addition, it has a feed that reminds you about the events two weeks (or when they are added) before they start.

Since the website is not finished yet, it has some problems and it’s missing features. Daylight saving time is causing troubles in conversions right now, but I’ll fix that later. Please let me know if you find any other bugs. I’ll add a way to change the time zone because it may not detect it right. Then I’ll need to add tags for events, so you could, for example, get notifications only about competitions in which you could use Python or have a prize.

Currently this is missing a name (just “Compos” now) and I hope you could help with that. Do you have any descriptive name ideas? I can’t buy a domain before I find a good name. And if you are interested in updating the content, contact me.

Only events that are available to everyone on the Internet are listed now. In the future, if others are interested, I might add a section for local jams too.

MiniLD #26 – Punch Mine

Don't you dare say anything about his deformed muscles.

Name: Punch Mine
Theme: Originally it was Descend but Dig and Dirt fits well too.
Description: My game is about this muscular man who tries to punch his way down the mines for no apparent reason. Maybe he’ll reach Earth’s core, maybe not.
What needs to be done: Punching, descending, high-score list.

Banananana

Trippy Banananana title

It was kinda hard to decide what I would do with this theme because it was really not my favorite. But after watching some videos on the internet I got an idea. A banana. In your ear.
The game is still a far from finishing and I need to work on school projects tomorrow so I can’t join the competition but I try my best to get at least to the jam.

This will be my second LD and I’m very excited about it. The only problem is that I have to finish a couple school projects this weekend too so I have only about ½-1½ days to make a game. But I’ll try.
I’ll use the same tools I used in the previous LD since they turned out to be good.

  • ActionScript 3
  • FlashPunk
  • Flatsuma (my own library)
  • FlashDevelop
  • Paint.NET
  • SFXR (or something similar)

Non-Euclidean Space as a theme would create interesting results, vote for it!

Life finished

I didn’t have any great ideas but I had to make something so A gaem About lIfe was born. About 3 hours was used to this. It is surprisingly hard to make bad artwork.

Time lapse finished

I finally finished a time lapse video for my game The Last Moments. It looks like I was developing the game almost all the time but really I was doing a lot of other things on my second screen.

Done.

I’m finally done. After 20 hours of developing The Last Moments is finished. This is my first LD entry but also my first really finished game ever. Play it here.

End of the day 1

This is my first time attending LD and it is going surprisingly well. I’m writing my game using FlashPunk. I uploaded a time lapse video to YouTube but since processing it is slow I can’t show it yet.

Test here.

There’s still a lot to do, but now I have to get some sleep.
