Quickly Trying to Finish

Posted by
Sunday, June 17th, 2012 5:06 pm

I had barely any time to work on my MiniLD on saturday so I’m way behind. My game still needs a ton of adjustments and additions that I’m constantly working. I’m developing a Portal-like puzzle game called Clone. My dare was to make a 3d ASCII game, although it looked way to ugly, so I dropped it. Clone pretty much involves you waking up in a testing center with a clone of yourself trying to escape by solving your way though all the rooms. But it’s got plenty of puzzle traits like lasers, boxes, buttons, doors, wires, conductors, etc.

Here’s a screenshot:

Right now the laser is powering the powerbox which powers the wires. Although it still needs some fixing. The “companion cube” looking pushable box can block lasers. The lighting isn’t that dynamic either. But EVERYTHING right now is a work in progress,

I’m not actually entering, but…

Restarting

Eh, I’m done with the alone dark kind of game, I’ll just make it a survival. Where you have to keep eating so you don’t die from hunger.

Progress Update: 4 hours in

So I’ve been straight programming the entire first 4 hours (while watching Markus Perssons live stream). And I’m excited with how this game might turn out. So far it’s got lighting, entity lights, player movement, and a lot of sprites. Here’s some pics:

Well, I didn’t know if I could do it, but I did! And I feel great! This really has improved on my experience in programming because I found out I know I can do greater than I expected. My game is called S.S. Unpredictable and here’s the link to the entry! http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-30/?action=preview&uid=5287

Mini LD 21 Compo, Day 2 starts!

I’ve been working a ton since 24 hours and 38 minutes ago, and I’ve been having a lot of fun with this game development, it’s almost done, just need to polish some things, add sounds and music, and well that’s it basically. Here’s some screenies:

RPG progress

So, for the last week I’ve been working on a game programmed in Java called Eternities RPG (originally named after my 3D RPG I was making until my harddrive broke originally named after my game made in RPGVX called Eternities Faith before I started programming). It’s a simple topdown RPG, so far there’s only stats, art, and 1 enemy. But if people would like to keep track of the progress (which will be like, no one) I’ve been posting youtube videos of the game in developement. Eternities RPG progress update

Basic Layout

Well Room 1 seems to be working fine, gravity, collision, all works great and I’m not getting any bugs. Here’s just the basic layout of the level, just squares and diagonal slopes as you play as a circle, I’ll add sprites later. Now I’m just going to try to add some shooting, then maybe do the sprites then, can’t wait to see how this game turns out, and even more excited to see others games too. xD

By touching ground or walls, it detects the collision and sense it's in the future, glowing pad light ground thingies xD

Taken with Ipod, sorry about that. :|

Yawn, I’m such a procrastinater, on the other hand, an hour ago I drew my title, like it? *PICTURE TAKE WHEN IPOD* hehe sorry! I had nothing else to capture it with….

Hehe.... sorry.. lol Says: FACILTY BREACH <press x to continue>

It has begun

Well, my first Ludum Dare, I am very excited xD. I’ve got a basic idea of my game, simple futuristic game, I have my music too, sounds awesome! I’ve got the title made, I love the way it looks, I’d show it, but this site won’t except RIF files, but it’s called Facilty Breach. 9:30 where I am, got time. Can’t wait to see how everyone elses games are turning out. Since I’ve been working/fooling around for about 45 minutes, I might as well start on a BIT of coding, nothing hard. Just a GameScreen and I’ll call it a day. Go Ludum Dare! xD

Platformer

While testing out my sourcecode for a overview  ”Up, Down, Right, Left” game, It was insanely buggy, I’d fix it, but I’m just too lazy. Instead I’ll just go for a simple platformer, shooting, and cool enemies. Too bad I’ll miss the first 2 hours of the Compo though, football practice starts at the exact time #21 does, so everyone will have a 2 hour head start pretty much.

Oh and one question for… anyone to answer really, what would be more efficient to use for character sprites, Graphics Gale? Or Paint.net? What I really like about GG is that it shows the sprite animation while you add new frames.

Theme

Posted by

Looks like the theme is most likely going to be about evolution. Round 1: Self-Replecation. Round 2: Adaption. Round 3: Evolution.  Something reeks of something going on here. Well other than that, I created a cool little Ludum Dare 21 logo/title/picturey thing, too bad it’s a RIF file so I can’t post it here. I’d convert it, but I’m just too lazy xD

I’ll try!

This is my first Ludum Dare competition so I’m not sure what to expect lol. I’ll just try my best and hopefully I’ll make a simple game for the competition. I’m dieing to hear what the theme is xD.

Scripting language: Java, using Eclipse.

Sprites: Paint.net OR Graphics Gale
