First time in long where i cant join :(

Also, i should be studying for history test that is held tomorrow instead of writing this.

In many cultures, there are tests one must pass to become adult. All though these tests are much less common in modern society, we have modernized editions.

In norway, where i live, you are supposed to go to a course where you learn about ethics n’ stuf  in year 9 of school, and then have a big “Yay im a adult” party where you celebrate what would be entering adulthood a few hundred years back.

Sadly, this is happening next weekend, so i can’t join ludum dare :( . I will be buisy saturday with ceremonies n’ stuf, and the party. Friday is welcoming english family arriving to celebrate some tradition they dont have in their country(How nice of them to fly over to norway for a tradition they aren’t a part of). And sunday i have time off.

So yeah, i cant join :(

(Mabe i shall stay up late saturday and do some coding? Dunno. Lets see if some random person on irc cheers me up this time too)

    Fail(ish)

    Atleast i delivered….

Half way through the compo, i nearly gave up, but “Manuel777″ on IRC made me continue. I had to write a new game in Java, because making a OpenGL GLSL game in C# was a bit more then what i could bite off. This is 1 day of work, minus 2 hours of World of warcraft, because i was depressed over the time, and also, i was travveling, so i lost a lot of time. Atleast the game is playable :D

Next time, in august, i am going to make sure i am at home the whole weekend.

    My entry is here

    IM IN!(again?)

    OS: Windows 7

LANGUAGE: Java or C#(Depends on game idea)

    API’s: OpenTK

    Thats about it :P

The last time, and this time, ludum dare has been akwardly chosen to be the weekend i go to england to visit the family, so this is the second time in a row i have to make a game while traveling…

    First day done!

The game now has a font engine, physics engine, render engine, and entity engine. All i need is CONTENT. Since i am working with another person, this is the workflow:

    Day 1(done): Code framework

    Day 2: Add content

    Day 3: Polish and music

    Here is a screenshot!

Note: Yeah, this does look like metagun. We havent agreed on art, so i just made art. And because it was a platformer i had metagun in my head. The game is different, and i have source code to prove it.

    Progress

The progress so far is measured in source code:

    https://github.com/petterroea/LD24

The game is a platformer based around the idea that you are a guy rented in by a science facility after they… Well, lets say the geiger counter is over 9000. You wear a radioactive suit, and have to go through levels of mutated creatures(Cellusious on the IRC said mutation was evolution). At the end of the game, you reach a button for activating neurotoxin(To kill of the mutants), guarded by a dangerus mutant. You and your trusty Evolutiotron must defeat him and activate the neurotoxin.

The gun you use is called the evolutiotron. Each time you kill someone, you get XP. You can use that XP to evolve your gun.

    Rendering working!

It has been 12 hours. On my first jam. With 1 hour of coding done(Went shopping with dad for a long time, and slept). And i got rendering working!

This picture does not show off much, but it perfectly reads a level off a bitmap and draws it in realtime with 600 fps. Time to fix some stuff:

The level bitmap was made for the old scale. I now have a smaller scale on the screen, so yeah. Need to fix that. Work!

    Git repo!

I just added a git repo that is going to be used under Ludum dare. Follow us if you want to!

We are two people working, so git is important. See you closer to Ludum dare!

    Im in with a twist!

I am doing the jam with another guy.

But the sad fact is that i am going to england with dad that weekend. So i guess i am going to be programming in two different countries, and on a plane :P .

    Yey.

I’m in! This time in the jam!

This will be my 4′th ludum dare. With only 1 completed, i feel bad.

But this time i am going for the jam with another guy! That will be fun.

    We are using:

    Java

    Paint.net

I might be using milkytracker for music. But i suck at tracking.

    Progress!

I have implemented movement and tiles. Now i need to add scenery, and quests. The map is small aswell. My focus on “tiny” is going to be a sick amount of quests for the map size.

    My game idea!

    Posted by (twitter: @petterroea)
    Friday, April 20th, 2012 10:19 pm

I will upload a pic in a few hours, after animating my character.

In the game idea, you are a person living on a very small planet. In fact, it is so small, it is not more then 2x the size of the screen. And it is recurring. If you go out of the virtual map on one side, it looks like you are just walking around the planet. To make the planet feel more tiny, there are going to be quests you have to complete. When ALL of the quests are done, you wil gain access to a dungeon where you fight against a boss and win the game.

I’m in! For the third time!

    Yey!

Hopefully i wont fail like first time.

Last time, i made a game called “Alone with zombies”. I am very happy with it!

I am using Java(Eclipse IDE), Paint.net and sfxr. And mabe that graphics program that is free under ludum dare.

Also, fuel: Noodles, premade dinners, Energy drinks, and Juice. Orange juice.

I will also be livestreaming at: livestream.com/petterroea

See you in IRC when the game begins!

I just finished my game! It is written in java, and i must say, i am quite happy with it.(I am 13 and i have use java for about a year now).
It has particles, sound, multiple levels(and it is easy to mod in more!*hint**hint*)
    Screenshots:

    Lol

Timelapse cooming out some day next week!

You can find the game here!

You can find the game in the compo entries under “Alone with zombies!

    Nearly done!

I am nearly done! Here, let me show you a pic:

    Try it here!

    Yay^^

I now have zombies with a primitive AI, a failsafe collision engine, weapoons, reloading, ammo, sound, and gameplay ready!

This is what i have left:

    More levels

    More guns

Make zombies heads face the player!

    And another math problem…

    Posted by (twitter: @petterroea)
    Saturday, December 17th, 2011 10:24 am

I have allready had one problem, but here comes another one! I want a image to rotate 20 pixels from a center coordinate, based on degrees in the rotation. This so i can make a muzzleflash. How do i do that? I am only 13 yrs old, so school hasn’t covered this stuff yet :(

Looking good, but i have a problem!

    Posted by (twitter: @petterroea)
    Saturday, December 17th, 2011 8:14 am

Yup. I need the player, at a constant coordinate of 400, 300, to face the mouse. And i suck at stuff like this? Any help?

rotation degrees = 0 when facing right. Up is 270. ect…

    Ludum dare 22 warmup

    Sunday, December 11th, 2011 8:02 am

So this weekend i have mostly been playing lava survival. But i need some practice for the upcoming ludum dare.

Because i have never coded sound before. So i am thinking of a simple game that is like whack-a-mole.

    Just to get started.

Also.. I’m in. I will be using Java w eclipse. And paint.net for graphics.

I am also livestreaming this as livestream.com/petterroea

    Timelapse of my failed attempt

    Timelapse

This is the timelapse of my attempt at Ludum dare. If you watch closely, you can see that i make 3 games. Two extra because of technical problems

    So i can’t enter…

    Posted by (twitter: @petterroea)
    Sunday, August 21st, 2011 12:57 pm

I am very sad, because i can’t enter. My game’s physics sucks, and so does the rest of the game.

Here is the source, media, etc(Should compile with std java aswell): Download source

The reasons for not making it are as follows:

    • Had Notch’s Livestream on another screen
    • I suck at physics
    • Eclipse failed on me. After 19 hours i remembered i could try netbeans. That worked.
    • Youtube.

Hope you other guys got more progress!

Nothing. But i still got hope. I am going to make an infinite runner where you escape from a mashy spike plate. Funfunfunfunfun
