progress report:

I have a basic game idea that (and lets face it) is going to be commonly associated with islands, but with a (hopefully) different twist, but more on that as I flush out logic.  For now I have my map made, collision mask, and  my UI decoration

the map is 4 layers to allow some basic animation to the water, the ui has 2 overlay layers for the feel good old monitor effect (ish), and another layer for buttons which change color depending on status

next I guess I need to hammer out some gameplay rules so I know what kind of swag I need to make :)

Cavern Crawler (Final)

Well after many, many set backs I managed to cough up a finished “game”

[[ Right now its just a love package (renamed zip file) and you will need love installed to play

Windows "dbl click n go" soon to come for more convenience ]]

The original concept was a “shooter” but then turned twards “asteroids meets defender”,  but then collision with the walls proved  a major problem, which took a day and a quarter !

after seeing a simple solution to all of that, I had less than 6 hours to fix the collisions and make some form of game, so there is nothing attacking you,  its mostly another maze game, and the code is horrible

But after tossing in the towel 2 times I am just happy to have a product that qualifies as a game

gfx = inkscape

music = Osgeld + crappy old keyboard and SFXR

system = love 0.50

font = cheated

1024×768 window, Keyboard control (arrow keys, wsad, and keypad)

If you have love already installed on your system or use unzip for sources

DOWNLOAD LD15-OSGELD.love

Self exe windows package tomorrow when I get home from work

Finally Some wall collision

Ok I have burned soooo much time on getting my dumb little spaceship to collide against the cavern walls, and now Ive got it working … sorta, but its good enough for now

Less than 6 hours to go and I am just now starting on the game parts … wish me luck

LD is the only time I seem to clean my desk …

Heres my desk for this one around, not much has changed from LD 14

PDR_0022

The computer moved from on top to under, the keyboard was upgraded from “generic clicky” to IBM Model M … um I have a clock and a candle (called “smell my nuts” I kid you not)

PDR_0001

Also this time around (if theres enough time)  I am going to try my hand at some music,  now I am not an accomplished musician, altho I took piano as a kid and played many instruments during high school and early 20′s

Now Im 30 and 10 years out of practice, but I bummed this dirt old keyboard from work,  with a excellent sequencer / composer which allows me to baby step so hopefully I can make some basic music that wont make everyone’s ears bleed

Cant wait to get started, and wish everyone good luck

*noobie tip: eat a good dinner, and  take a shower before the compo starts !

Dude, you should title your posts – PoV

I had to go into town today so I stopped in one of the local computer shops that I happen to be buddies with the owner

And scored a 1984 Model “M” 1391401 with a ps/2 cord

yay!!

works perfect, using it now

And I am in for the upcoming LD, still using love
