This is our first Ludum Dare, but one of dozens of events like this we do on a regular basis. Please check back to this page to see our progress!

End Defenders – Mayans Demise
3D Land Objects

Here are some of our 3D objects we’ve made during Ludum Dare. In the group of three, it shows the different tiles for Jungle, Maize and Swamp. – The red ziggurat is a large temple, from which you can cast spells and enter the shop – The smaller ziggurat represents a smaller population than the red, large temple.
Character Sprites
In an earlier post we showed you that purple-haired Maya Acolyte who is your main consort. Here are the two other sprite types: the Warrior (2nd Stage – Post-Classical) and the Conquistador (3rd Stage – Colonization). Both are troublesome and represent a lot of bloodshed for you and your people. (after all, you just want to be left alone)
We had a little hiccup in the server, so these haven’t gotten up till now.
Assets nearly finished
We’re in the last 5 hours of the compo. – Dawn has been spearheading the 3D assets and we’re slated to be finished shortly.
Here is one of our temple types. We have a few other structures coming up. To see a turnaround of the asset, just refresh the image.
Temples represent population hubs. The smaller ones aren’t used for Sacrifices.
This one was finished yesterday morning, but we had a big party last night and didn’t get to post it. More to come!
Design Lock
Each chip is a unit type – Black bases are cities, White are Mayans, Blue is Fertile Swamp, Red is Maize, Green is Jungle – Mechanics and variables and game play are all worked out and tried by hand. Looks solid. Digitally, we’ll tweak the balance when AI and auto-refreshing are all in place and running.
This is going to be truly unique and surprising, “double-edged-sword” game play.
“Protect THIS”
Scope of the Event
This is atypical and potentially not in the spirit of Ludum Dare, but we will not be submitting a game after the 2 days. Instead, it is our objective to reach an asset milestone and establish pipelines and online interactivity for a larger, “Alone-inspired” game that will be released after the holidays in time for 2012.
We will be continuing to post art and design ALONE to our Ludum Dare page, and we may even have a walk-through available at the end, but not our intended game. The pathfinding, AI, shop, etc. is of a grander scope that we don’t want to sacrifice, so we’re officially taking ourselves out of the compo. We will still be using the compo and jam to reach our milestone deadlines.
Thanks for understanding!
Initial Concept Decided!
Dawn and I have a great plan ahead for our game offering for this competition. It’s very “2012″ so stay tuned!
We’ll also be employing an absolutely twisted mechanic Ari thought of during dinner that is going to make people really sweat.
This will not be your average tower defense game, for sure!

We’re in!
Hello Everyone!
This is Ben of Mechamagizmo – My friend khakionion made me aware of Ludum Dare and we’ve decided to participate. Thank you very much for having us.
We will be creating our “Alone” game in Unity. More updates to come. Right now Dawn and I are watching the Japanese anime “Mushishi” for inspiration.
