Escausage Timelapse

Well this was a very successful LD for me, I think mainly because I just started making something without some grand and bloated plan. I’m slowly working on the post compo version, and your comments have been super helpful in planning that.

PS here is the entry page: Escausage

The bluntest of instruments

Here we go on the last stretch, I’m feeling pretty good about things!

Totally in for this

I set up a little command center on my desktop, which should show most the tools i’ll be using.  The widgets are from Rainmeter. Not shown is pygame, and a few python modules: http://code.google.com/p/podsixnet/ , http://code.google.com/p/bgui/ .

The SVN for the project is at http://code.google.com/p/jplur-ludumdare/

I wrote a little basecode to convert a series of images into a spritesheet, you can grab that and my warmup project here: jplur_warmup.zip  There’s also a good chance I will be using this octree code: Octree.py

I spent some hours today getting pygame2exe.py to build and familiarizing myself with pygame, probably a good call to know I can publish something before even starting.  Good look peoples!

Giving up

Sadly, I’m out of the compo. I probably spent way to much time on the art, and had some snafus trying to get the programming together. The screenshot is in game, but mainly staged to what I wanted it to look like.

I’m looking forward to playing the other entries!

If you want to use the artwork, you can get the project files here.

I like where the artwork is going with this, but I’m really unsure about learning enough Unity to make something playable, and thinking of reverting to Blender’s game engine. I think I’ll just finish art and music, then sort things out..

characters

As usual, I’m off to a slow start; but I have the two characters modeled. Next I’ll give them some basic animations and switch to Unity. As far as mechanics, I’m thinking the pet will follow you, unless you select it and tell it to walk to a spot. You’ll use it to eat enemies and sniff out dangerous traps.

you. this.

Hey all! Didn’t have time to announce myself but this will be my 5th LD. My idea is a game about a girl and a thing called this. I’m going to be using Unity for the first time, so I’m not going to try anything complicated or involving lots of programming. I’m thinking it will be about exploring little areas to find items to unlock more little areas, all in a greyscale color theme.

Good luck entrants!

I’m doing this Mini LD!

Hello,

LD#17 was a lot of fun for me, I made a working telnet MUD with python. There wasn’t a lot of content, but PvP combat was fun if you were lucky to be online with someone else.

Dr. Destruction and the Weapon that Turns Enemies into More Weapons

In order to help Dr. Destruction create the ultimate weapon, you must get a high score on a series of minigames.

As of now, the only minigame is memory, lets hope I can come up with at least 3 by the end of the day.

Last night I took a 2 hour nap, which somehow turned into a 9 hour sleep fest, basically the same mistake I made last compo.

Also want to shout out to DrPetter for the awesome Sculptris:

debug by the gallon

Hello friends!  I’ve been waiting for this all summer and am supremely excited.  I’ll be using the Blender game engine, python and my computer.

Here’s to making this the best LD ever!

Congratulations to all who entered!

Here’s my timelapse for the weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sytucXyhmyA

My finished entry is here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-17/?action=preview&uid=1066

I’ll probably write a post-mortem this week.

Hopefully I’ll see some of you on the MUD.

testing the MUD

Come test it out!

telnet jplur.no-ip.org 5057

Things are starting to come together.  You can explore the (small) island, and find a few things to try to kill.  You can also attack other players.

ANSI art!

island2

ANSI colors are pretty limited, and I’m having trouble getting the ‘bright’ variations to display, but perhaps I’ll get some pity votes in the graphics category ;)

I’ve done some thinking with the gameplay.  Islands will be traditional room based areas, where you can explore, fight things, find and bury treasure, get peppers.

Players will be able to buy boats that let them sail throughout the world by setting directions.

Hopefully I will have time to implement some sort of nautical combat and piracy.

Some progress

IslandsMUD

Well I think I’ve gotten the basic server set up, feel free to help test.

telnet: jplur.no-ip.org 5057

I found out that telnet is disabled in windows vista and 7, not hard to turn it on, but I’m looking into getting a web based client set up for added easiness.

No idea what kind of game it will be, but I’m going to zzzzzzzzzz and hope something comes to me.

I’m making a MUD.

I’m pretty sure a telnet command line program is included in all OS’s.

I will be using Python 2.6, Twisted, and possibly some sort of python database module.

I will be hosting it on my home workstation, if anybody knows  of a good dynamic ip tracking solution let me know, otherwise I might just write a script that updates a webpage every 15 minutes. (my ip seems to switch every 2 days or so, so not the biggest hurdle.)

Good luck to all!
