What on earth is this!

It’s a minimalist background for my minimalist house builder!

Ooh, I finally have an idea…FINALLY!

Ok my idea goes like this:

You have  5 questions to try and give the computer as much info as possible, the computer then tries to guess, if the computer gets it right you earn a point. If the computer gets it wrong then the computer gets a point.

Sound fun?

Yay! LD11!

Now I’m in a bit of a dilemma if you can help out…Pygame really eats upmy time coding so I don’t have loads of time, but I haven’t quite got to grips with pyglet, what should I use? Something I only half know how to use or not?

Ok LD10is over, planning for 11

If there is an LD11. :)

OK, at the moment I’m learning how to code in C++, is that a recommended language to be used in LD11?

I’ve tried to look at the pros and con’s, and found:

Pros:

  1. It is Object Orientated, which may persuade me not to use plain structured and a loop.
  2. It is a compiled language, so it should be easier to make it cross platform
  3. It should run faster as well
  4. It is great for text based games

Con’s;

  1. I’m not great at it
  2. I have no idea how to GFX in it
  3. I’ve not touched the language since 2004, and the whole thing was different back then.

At the moment it looks like the pros are greater than the con’s, but, is it a better language overall?

I mean python is written on top of C++, so that means that the person who made Python can’t of been to happy with C++ if he made is own one, either that or he was bored. :)

If python is written in C++ then That could mean that it is an ”improved” version of C++, leading me to think that that is better.

However, I already know python, so it would be a good learning experience for me to learn C++, and someone gave me a Sams Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days, so I’m trying to learn that. (Not the average item on a 12 year olds list :) )

Also, I may be making a text based game next time, is it worth it?It would take less time, I’d imagine, and I don’t know how to do GFX in C++.

Please replyas a comment, awaiting your replies. ;)

PyExe Version

Well, not exactly, where do you download py2exe, and how is it run?

Anyways there is aa little story to the game, but, I never released it, also I did make the laser move towards in the last few mins before I uploaded it, but, it was so buggy, I removed it.

The story is as follows:

Youare a cycling maniac, you always knew one day it would get you into trouble, and it did, you got trapped between two pillows (Iwas going to make the pillow further back and stop you moving past it), and a laser was there to, if you hit the laser at a low speed your chain would react to the laser, weakening it, aka, making you lose a life.

If you went quickly past the laser, it would react differently, giving you back your life.

You had to see how long you can last without dieing, it’ll be a challenge with an always moving laser!

And who is shooting the laser at you?

Aliens from outer space. :D

Also in LD11, I’m planning on using C++ is that recommended?

Tools used

Didn’t know about this. :)

GFX - Gimp

Language - Python/Pygame

Sound - Didn’t have anny

Developer - Gedit (I started with DrPython, but quickly got frustrated with it).

Final-ly

I hope its the final

I have finally got something playable, I just hope its fun, the GFX are pretty nice except for the bike, and you don’t always lose a life when hitting the laser.

How does it meet the theme? The bicycle chain reacts to the laser making it go all acid, i just wish i had more time to really implement the theme more.

Most of my GFX are alright, except for the bicycle, which I can’t draw, then I was gonner take a piccy of my bike fore the game, but I couldn’t as it was at my grans, ah well.

My gameplay is finally coming together now though, you need to cycle into the pillow which will send you up, and you need to make sure you don’t start going down into the acid which will make your chain react in a most unpleasent way. :D

Well day 1 had ended with a nice source to change my origonal source to my new idea, which is basically the same, loads of progress yesterday, hope I do as much today with only about 5 hours.

I dunno I think I’ll wait till I’m 15 before I attempt this again, to unrelaxed.

Still I’ve made up for all my missed time with a nice readable peice of coding, hope it lasts like that, now I’ll be off to add in object see ya!

A few graphics done, now coding starts

I’ve decided to change it so that you now need to see how far you can make the pillow go, which will lead to some obscure chain reaction.

Now the fun part…coding starts. :D

Doh, still thinking

Would you believe my luck? I’m 12, I know how to program etc. I want to take part in Ldum dare, but, as its a weekend and I can’t set my alarm I really overslept, still I have some strange idea for a game.

Basically its something to do with a train, and you need to drive it into pillows, cushions or something, and such a force it’ll do something else, I really need to fill in those gaps though.
